Lt. Z0mBe Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 Delicate sewing to be sure. Also, Thom your scribing looks wonderful (I have scribing on the brain, lately lol) and the flight deck looks like the real thing. Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Kenny Quote

Now, I'm doing a lot of sanding. The bomb bay doors were a pretty poor fit, so that needed filler down the middle, and will need more scribing there. A lot of sanding has happened since... Quote

These are 1/15 Kaiyodo resin figures from Japan auctions. Probably cost me USD 10. There are General Products versions as well. My first pure figure, so it was a big challenge. Valkyrie Driver Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 This: Currently trying to figure out how I want to paint it. Since I'm not a huge fan of the original colors. I also want to do some weathering effects. Quote
MechTech Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 Looking good Thom! You can see the throttle quadrants and everything! I love the paint scheme and detail Chavakaiser! It has a realistic look to it. The ship and your figure look GREAT Arbit! The fiber optics take a fairly bland design and make it stand out. The figure looks great with your updates. Are you going to paint highlights on the clothing for depth? ALMOST DONE with the ship. Biggest change was adding a 1/4" lip around the top of the deck from the wheelhouse to the stern. The lip is a "C" channel of styrene that a square tube slides into snuggly. The square tube goes onto the lip of upper deck. So the top deck slides on and is now mostly water proof. No fasteners to undo. I extended it to cover the "exhaust" and give me a small helipad (helicopter sold separately, batteries not included). Also added the "glass," Harpoon missile tubes, rebuilt the .50 cal HMGs with brass parts, and added a ton of detail all over the place to include bollards and other tie downs. The crane was built of spare parts and the inflatable boat needs to be finished up. - MT Quote
arbit Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 Dang Mechtech! That's too good. We are not worthy... What's it based on? 49 minutes ago, MechTech said: The figure looks great with your updates. Are you going to paint highlights on the clothing for depth? Nope, in real life its only 10cm tall, so no need to bother. Plus, I don't know how Quote

mickyg Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 Nice! VF-143 is one of my favourites! I have an old 1/48 Hasegawa F-14B I started a long time ago with the CAG bird in mind. Quote
NZEOD Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 Decalling done... what a fun nightmare!! Just some detailing and matt coat to go. Quote
MechTech Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 The Pukin' Dogs would be proud NZEOD! Arbit, it's not based on any one design, just a small patrol/fast attack missile boat. It's the 1/72 Tamiya PT-15 hull (ripped off by Trumpeter) heavily modified to what you see. Even the hull is heavily modified for the prop channels. This will be one of my few 1/72nd scale models. 1/20th and 1/24th figures are perfect for shading. It's basically your main base color with shading in the shadows and then adding a bit of white to the main color for highlights on the surface. The you do it again with a lighter shade yet and so on in layers. Wargamers do it to add depth to their figures. There's tons of tutorials out there. - MT Quote

NZEOD Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 Nope, size 10 MX gloves and the other unscarred hand was the other halfs. They are tiny models! Working on a 1/144 Hawkeye with modded folded wings and the 8 blade props to go on the deck in Macross colours. The catch is it will have nav lights and motor driven spinning props. Quote

We also want to see it in the water, if you plan to have it out!! Shading is something I am studying, but right now I dont have control of my airbrush yet... trying to balance PSI and thinning level with distance to model... Lots to learn. Right now, I get a lot of splatter and it ruins my model if I try to shade. Awaiting a new Iwata HP to see if that helps me out, as opposed to my entry-level Iwata Neo. Try to thin the paint even more. Also, clean the needle regularly to prevent paint buildup. _ Meanwhile, back on the moon: Quote

First of all, nice looking build there! Second, if I can jump on the back of what MechTech recommended, I'm not sure he's suggesting airbrushing the other shades. Maybe, and that's certainly an option. But the wargamer figures often get done up with the ol' hairy stick. the shades are just brushed on over the base coat. I'm sure some level of dry brushing can work here too. I've had paint spatter too and it's often a pressure vs paint consistency thing. Not thin enough or the pressure is too low. But there are other possibilities too and definitely needle cleanliness. All things to experiment with. Quote

pengbuzz Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 (edited) On my end of things... ALMOST got a replacement 1/72 canopy for my F-14 Tomcat, but the model it came with was too much for me at the time. I hid it and waited for the 50% off sale (today)and would have been a couple of dollars... ...and it was gone from where I hid it. Anyways, money's always an issue (long story, boring with parts of absolute terror interspersed), so buying a new one just for a canopy isn't gonna happen. And with shipping, a vac-formed one is almost as much. Starting to think about just tossing it, as I don't need a "destroyed diorama" Tomcat. -------------------------------------- In other news: I came across an old Mattel 1978 Cylon Raider: No figure, missile launchers shot, so, I did some..."work": Since these photos, the stripes have been corrected and made more "curving" than they look here. While not in scale with my 1/32 Moebius Viper (TOS), it should work for photography. Stay tuned... Edited November 16, 2017 by pengbuzz Quote
