Thanks... and no tragically Nora and her SV met an ugly demise... reworked my candy technique though so a MkII minus the rippling issues and shadowing problems I had the first time have been eliminated. Next candy VF off the ranks is the 30th Anniversary VF-1 and VF-19. Started assembling them this evening. Quote

Your English is pretty great too. My first resin "kit" is primed! It was only 4 parts, but these things are tough... I wouldn't take on a larger kit without more practice. Ok so the extra layer of paint gives it grip, much like what happened with my Redemptor Dreadnaught. I'll keep that in mind, right now she is packed away until I get my house resorted for a few display cabinets. Quote
NZEOD Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 Anyone with a gimix vf1 in battroid mode, even broken, want to swap for a 1/72 hasegawa f/a18 kit, unbuilt with no decals, and a brand new in the bag vf19 master file, yell out. I need the left front shoulder cover. New kit had two rights!!! Quote

I've gone back to my old process for figure painting. I'm glossing everything before masking. And instead of masking fluid, blue poster tack doesn't peel the paint. The imperfect edges get hand paint touch ups at the end. Quote

Yes that would be a very interesting one to do... adding dust clouds around the SDF-1 as its trying to take off... but are there any good pictures of that Mars base where you see all the base? 14 hours ago, arbit said: What key frame background art are you basing this on? a mix of these and a touch of me... Its pretty crisp in the detailing and has tiny tabs and slots to lock it all together. I'm really surprised at just how simply they assembled and how solid it all is. not bad for $15 Quote

I noticed in your 2 frames that the color codes and tone of the SDF-1 matches the cityscape. I'm sure you can pull it off. I think that's what's lacking in other dioramas. Quote

NZEOD Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 this past week its been the 25th anni vf before hitting the 35th this week. The nightmare of decaling pinstripes! Yeah I know I do things backwards from the norm, I paint the airframe, decal it, detail and wash it... The blue used is a Tamiya fine primer - Alclad II Gloss Black Base - Alclad II Chrome - Alclad II Candy Blue. Then it will be sealed in Alclad II Gloss Klear Kote then detailed, washed and matted down. Shown is the pilot I'm using in the display from Shapeways printed in the new Black High Definition Acrylate - That material is AMAZING!! Quote

arbit Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 (edited) Jean is pretty much done. Next time, I think a pen would be better for panel lining, rather than the wash. Edited November 7, 2017 by arbit Quote
Lt. Z0mBe Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 This one grinds inexorably onward. It seems like a lot of work for such a small update. I scribed in the main undercarriage doors, filled in some details and added others; for example, there are now panels behind the wing root cannon ports (armament bays?) but removed the venting behind the sensor boom. I also filled the areas where the wing root cannon covers connect to the fuselage and then re-scribed them. I did this to make that area less "bubbly" and more streamlined. I hollowed out the two little air intakes I scratchbuilt from sheet styrene so they look like, well, intakes. RCS thruster blisters visible, one intake and new scribing at wing root and wingtip visible and antenna fairings/vanes/blisters shaped: Other side view, slightly blurry but you get the idea: Underside. You can see lots of RCS blisters, new scribing at wing roots, the other intake, Aves undercarriage doors and the new exhaust assembly with its gaps filled: Sensor boom and cannon fairing with their scribing. They were a bitch to scribe: Engine nozzle and masked off areas that have been sanded, polished and preshaded/painted black: That's all I have for now. Comments and criticisms welcome, as always.
