Seto Kaiba Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 It probably just the first 6 scenes wasn't it? Nah, it actually spanned the whole movie... but I had to throw out quite a few scenes just to make it small enough to load in a reasonable amount of time on a high-speed connection.
renegadeleader1 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Okay two things 1. The AIKa(agent aika) drinking game. Drink when you see a panty shot. You WILL be dead from alcohol poisoning within the first 10 minutes. 2. I actually prefer prefer Maia Sterling and all her piloting jigglyness to the 17 year old singer that dresses like a space nazi infected with what may as well be a space HIV that is Sheryl Nome. NOTE:The above opinion has no bearing on what I actually think of MacF
anime52k8 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 2. I actually prefer prefer Maia Sterling and all her piloting jigglyness to the 17 year old singer that dresses like a space nazi infected with what may as well be a space HIV that is Sheryl Nome.
renegadeleader1 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 (edited) I know what you are trying to do, and I'm not going to lower myself to it. It would be very easy for me to find a crappy screen grab of Sheryl Nome at her worst and put it side by side with a gussied up line/fan art of Maia. Still though comparing the two pictures they both kinda have screwed up noses... All things aside is there any official artwork of Sheryl where she doesn't look like a costume fetish hooker? I'd Love to see official art of any kind where Shadow chronicle characters look good. (oh god I can't even think that without laughing. )
renegadeleader1 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I dunno the art that came with her broken Alpha was okay, and there's definately better screen caps of her from Shadow Chronicles than what you posted.
VF5SS Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Southern Cross was pretty heavy on the fanservice, probably to compensate for its deficiencies in pretty much every other category. I think you need to let go of your Robotech fan butthurt and realize Southern Cross is an pretty good show.
renegadeleader1 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 (edited) I think you need to let go of your Robotech fan butthurt and realize Southern Cross is an pretty good show. Its enjoyable, but not the first thing I would grab for 80s mecha action in its original version, which is probly the problem it had when it first aired. It was up against shows that just did it better. Edited October 5, 2011 by renegadeleader1

It would be very easy for me to find a crappy screen grab of Sheryl Nome at her worst and put it side by side with a gussied up line/fan art of Maia. I like the fact that you have to go OUTSIDE the Shadow Chronicles movie itself ("gussied up line/fan art") to find a good picture of Maia, and yet there are TONS of good shots of Sheryl in Macross F itself. Of course, I might be being unfair, considering that from 2007~2011, we got around 29 hours of Macross F footage, whereas, in the same time frame, we only got 90 minutes of Shadow Chronicles footage.

Jasonc Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Hmmm, I'd normally say that seeing Maia as a better character is just an opinion, but either 1)it seems you're sore that Robotech's characters and art just doesn't match up, 2) You're upset that Sheryl does look better than Maia, being that she's a Macross character, or 3) You honestly do think Maia looks better and you just have really bad taste. I don't think the Maia character is terrible, but comparing the two, they are light years apart.
VF5SS Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Lana eats a parfait which in Japan is the universal sign of femininity. Also she complements Jeanne on her breasts.
Shaorin Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I just remember fans creaming themselves when the robotech crystal dreams demo footage was leaked... yeah, and i'm ashamed to admit that i was very much one of them. in retrospect, it is most striking indeed just how BAD those demo stills were. i got exited again in 2001/2002 when TDK interactive shoved "ROBOTECH BATTLECRY" out the door. that game is a quantum leap beyond whatever GAMETEK had planned for CRYSTAL DREAMS to be, but is nonetheless a virtually unplayable turd all the same. HG and ROBOTECH attempted to get a free ride on the coattails of the transforming robot craze of the 1980's, just as they have attempted the same with the 1980's retro-revival of the first decade of the 21st century. it's ALL about the quick buck with HG; then as well as now...
Shaorin Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 (edited) "We want to let the NEW Japan company" http://www.pmoa.co.jp/ ah!! "PLUM" !! thanks for the "ASSAULT SUIT LEYNOS" AS-5E3 kit, guys!! too bad the damn thing has such a poor ball joint design; i have a hell of a time getting the damned arms to stay put in a pose, as the shoulder ball joints are just too damned loose. something i need to get around to working on; Edited October 5, 2011 by Shaorin

Except for the face, didn't Maia's character design in Shadow Chronicles have the same identical body proportions with Janice and Ariel, making it irritatingly explicit when they were shown together? And all other examples were either background characters and huge (statuette) like Jean Grant, right? Slim pickings to me because there was a lack of variety. Maia could have been chosen by default. VF5SS Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Yeah basically every male and female character were drawn with identical bodies. Really awkward porn star bodies for the females and Ken doll like pretty men for the females.
anime52k8 Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Yeah basically every male and female character were drawn with identical bodies. Really awkward porn star bodies for the females and Ken doll like pretty men for the females. I'm not even sure if this is a typo or not but I laughed none the less. Now I think I need to go watch Southern cross.
VF5SS Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Ya know the women are pretty manly in a bad way so it fits.
Freiflug88 Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 I actually prefer prefer Maia Sterling and all her piloting jigglyness to the 17 year old singer that dresses like a space nazi infected with what may as well be a space HIV that is Sheryl Nome. Of course Sheryl has space aids, its what makes her the "galactic fairy." Except for the face, didn't Maia's character design in Shadow Chronicles have the same identical body proportions with Janice and Ariel, making it irritatingly explicit when they were shown together? And all other examples were either background characters and huge (statuette) like Jean Grant, right? Slim pickings to me because there was a lack of variety. Maia could have been chosen by default. I don't think the shared proportions is much of a problem. After all I have never heard complaints about Kei/Yuri and Rei/Asuka sharing identical proportions and at times clothing. I think the real issue with Janice and April is that there are no clashing features that pop out to viewers at first glance. They have such minor differences in EVERYTHING: long red hair, body shape, and cleavage cut-out clothing that it takes a moment for viewers to register them as different character designs. Unlike the for mentioned anime pairings which have polarizing color schemes and hairstyles that make them instantly recognizable even when paired together in identical clothing and body shape. Yeah basically every male and female character were drawn with identical bodies. Really awkward porn star bodies for the females and Ken doll like pretty men for the females. Can't the same can be said for practically every character designer. I mean they all have their own basic “idolized” gender template with minor tweaks drawn over.
VF5SS Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Can't the same can be said for practically every character designer. I mean they all have their own basic “idolized” gender template with minor tweaks drawn over. A good character designer should have no problems designing characters with a wide range of physiques. For example, Yoshikazu Yasuhiko did this for Gundam. He may have started with a stock template, but see how he varies everything to create multiple types of character? And this is from a show from over 30 years ago. You can see similar things with the Macross cast or as a more recent example, try Eureka 7. also space aids is GHINIUS from 08th MS Team get your shite right

But hey, if HG's goal in the film was just to establish that Janice and Ariel are women, then mission accomplished! Tommy and/or the Korean animators HG hired can draw women, be thankful for that. Those other characters also benefited from character development in their shows to tie into their designs or the toned down any perceived similarities in them. Good luck getting that here any time soon. A good character designer should have no problems designing characters with a wide range of physiques. For example, Yoshikazu Yasuhiko did this for Gundam. That's probably an unfair comparison. He's a professional. Edited October 6, 2011 by Einherjar
VF-15 Banshee Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 It's an unfair comparison because he's Yaz.

The context was that anime52k8 posted a comparison of Maia and Sheryl using a crappy screen grab of Maia at her worst found on google image next to a picture of Sheryl that came from one of the MacF artwork books to make Maia look fugly and that the situation could easily be reversed. 3.Maia looks great in her tank top about 3-5 minutes in Hmmm, I'd normally say that seeing Maia as a better character is just an opinion, but either 1)it seems you're sore that Robotech's characters and art just doesn't match up, 2) You're upset that Sheryl does look better than Maia, being that she's a Macross character, or 3) You honestly do think Maia looks better and you just have really bad taste. I don't think the Maia character is terrible, but comparing the two, they are light years apart. Its posts like this where I believe we need a facepalm emoticon, I recommend this one But to answer your question its more than looks for the reason I prefer Maia, I like tough gals that can handle their own. Girls like Emeraldas, Aika Sumeragi, Priss Asagiri, and so on. And if you think I'm a HG sycophant you don't know me that well. That doesn't mean I'm going to drop to my knees and choke on anything Big West pumps out with the kite symbol on it either. If anything I'm equally pissed at both because not one damn thing is going to change any time soon and I'm moving on.
Gubaba Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 1. Don't EVER quote me out of context just to get your fanboy jollies. "Fanboy jollies"...? Let's make a deal. I won't quote you out of context if you don't EVER ascribe the lamest of motivations to me without cause. 'Kay? 2. anime52k8 Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 (edited) 3.Maia looks great in her tank top about 3-5 minutes in THOSE EYES! THOSE COLD, LIFELESS EYES!!! Edited October 6, 2011 by anime52k8
VF-15 Banshee Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Maybe it's just 'cause I've never seen Robotech, but she looks like Generic Anime Character. Doesn't look at all like she's one of Max and Milia's kids. Maybe a distant cousin to Muse and Therese.

VF5SS Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Yeah Maia is a girl who can handle herself, which is why she has to be saved by generic hero boy at the end of the pilot er I mean movie.
Dynaman Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Doesn't look at all like she's one of Max and Milia's kids. Maybe a distant cousin to Muse and Therese. Considering that Rick Hunter no longer looks like himself, so what?

azrael Posted October 6, 2011 Author Posted October 6, 2011 You know, if the man likes women with varying disproportional body parts, I say more power to them. I ain't gonna argue with someone's choice of waifu. Maybe it's just 'cause I've never seen Robotech,.... As the purple monkey-thing puppet named after a snack would say, "OH. MY. GOD." So you have no frakin' clue about our nonsense yapping about Robotech, sequels and franchise and our pointless endless comparisons to its original works? I think you might wanna ed-ju-ma-kate yourself and go watch it on Youtube or Hulu.
VF5SS Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 I wouldn't encourage anyone to watch Robotech. Let him stay ignorant of its twisted vision.
Einherjar Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Man, all of this would be less one sided if there was more than a 90 minute movie to base on after five years and people's imaginations running sometimes OMG WTF wild.
Keith Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Enough of this foolish Maia Sterling talk. Sheryl FTW! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IU9xYBJ64sE&feature=related
Shaorin Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 And if you think I'm a HG sycophant you don't know me that well. WATCH 4:30 to 4:40;
