DarrinG Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Hmmm - not sure it will be a kit, unpainted. Does it say that? If they indeed want us to get a (nother) Defender to steal the bottom from (which I would do, so there plan is brilliant), than they would have to mold it in the same color at least so the yellows match. Getting something is better than nothing - hope they do a weathered version with missile launch effects too! I'm in... Quote
anime52k8 Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 given that it says HDP resin on the advert that probably means unpainted, unassembled kit given Yamato's track record. and if they're going to mold it color they'd probably use the same tan as the tomahawk since that matches the official colors closest. Also they can't really do a weathering version on an unpainted kit can they. Quote
DarrinG Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 If the kit is successful they'll try any number of variations to sell more. Anxious to see... Quote
Raptor One Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 WOW. great strategy Yamato. You gotta hand it to them...LOL...so to get a Phalanx you're gonna drop $100 on another destroid and THEN have to pay for the HDP or whatever top---which I'm SURE they are gonna charge at LEAST $80-$100 for. SORRY---NOT GONNA HAPPEN.... Yes, because having nothing at all is a much better situation Quote
DarrinG Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 (edited) I noticed something in this pic I never have before. The blue version way up top has the same head design as the brown. There seems to be several blue head variations in this screencap. Thought the blue only had that one wacked out gord seen in the foreground. Edited July 25, 2011 by DarrinG Quote
derex3592 Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Yes, because having nothing at all is a much better situation hey, if you wanna blow ur money that's ur call, me, I'll just track down a 1:72 scale model and build one. That's the route I'm taking with the Spartan. Quote
jenius Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 I currently have six destroids... And no modeling skills. Not sure what i'll do about this... Quote
ff95gj Posted July 26, 2011 Author Posted July 26, 2011 Graham... Please shred us more light about this... Quote

jenius Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Doubtful, I don't think I want a Phalanx THAT much. This will require pensive fingers to the chin for a while. Quote
DarrinG Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Was hoping to see some more news on this today! Nothing? Quote
Fly4victory Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 HDP= Half-a$$ Destroid Plan? What a stupid idea sell the top as a kit! Why not just release a 1/60 destroid set like the 1/100 Takatoku. The result is the same left with bits and parts unused. Quote
UN Spacy Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I'd really like to hear Graham's insight here. Quote
Renato Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 What a stupid idea sell the top as a kit! It's a better idea than not releasing it at all. Quote
macrossnake Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Another HDP resin kit... very disappointed. Quote
Xx-SKULL-ONE-xX Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 It's a better idea than not releasing it at all. For all of three people. There are already models to be had and if the Regult is any indicator it probably means no toy... Ever Quote

Ever I know you're dissapointed but again, as Renato said it's better than no Phalanx at all. The models are 1/72 and can't be posed with the other 1/60 destroids. For the time being it's the only option. If Yamato determined that it will never see the light of day as a toy then there's not much to complain about. Edited July 27, 2011 by Ignacio Ocamica Quote

EXO Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 The models are 1/72 and can't be posed with the other 1/60 destroids. I don't know about "can't", maybe they refused to... lol. I was planning to make a conversion kit. But I'm glad they are making it. It'll save me some time and money. Quote
DarrinG Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I'm no economist but MANY signs are pointing to things about to get worse, not better. For Yamato to spend the money on the steel molds and lose money even if times were good -- let alone what might be ahead in the next year or two -- would not be prudent. Its not my first choice - but is certainly interesting. If this is how they have to roll in order to get it out - or even a Spartan kit eventually - then that's how it has to be... Quote
Ignacio Ocamica Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I don't know about "can't", maybe they refused to... lol. I'm an extremist right? Yeah, I refuse to display/mix models with toys! Hope the kit will be easy to track down. Quote
derex3592 Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I guess it's not the fact of the HDP kit I mind at all. I would actually be in for buying the kit....IF IT HAD THE LEGS AS WELL. That's the part that annoys me. Quote
Reïvaj Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Why is everybody so sure it’s not including the legs? Is it that what can be read in the WF picture? O is it Yamato’s official word? Too soon to start panicking IMO… Quote
EXO Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I think it'll include the legs. I'm guessing that's why it says ABS on that signage. Man! Why'd I trade my Olive Green Tomahawk? Hey Daisuke! Wanna trade back? Quote

ae_productions Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 (edited) I know it's a pipe dream, but I was so hoping to get a 1:60 Monster. I know, I know. I just assumed the other two Destroids would see a release date. I guess I don't mind doing the model thing as long as it's not going to destroy me financially to get one (or two). And two, that these kits can be obtained easily. The future looks grim for our 1:60 Destroids... Edited August 3, 2011 by ae_productions Quote

Mommar Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I remember seeing some info about 1/60 Montster being done in a show, maybe Yamatos' booth? That would be my dream destroid. That one I imagine would be at least $500 though. Quote

Renato Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 For all of three people. Er... Well... yeah, EXACTLY -- that's the point. That's how few people actually buy the destroid toys, and that's why Yamato decided that going through the trouble of manufacturing another shelf-warmer is not the most lucrative thing in the world. This kit is for the already hardcore people who want the Phalanx no matter what. Quote

This kit is for the already hardcore people who want the Phalanx no matter what. You know I would argue Yamato tested the waters with the Destroids people wanted the least. Maybe not so much with the Tomahawk, because I'm a fan of that one (and you get the Battletech bleed-over people as well) but... the Defender? I don't know anybody who's a BIG Defender fan or just HAD to have one. I already mentioned the Tomahawk having a small fan base though still not really that big, I know LOTS of people who love the Phalanx and I've never met anyone Macross or Robotech related who didn't absolutely want to own a Monster. Maybe Yamato didn't focus closely enough on the favorites? Especially the Monster, that's in it's own category really. Quote
derex3592 Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Yamato would charge $2k for an HDP kit of that. But how cool would that be??? Quote
Vi-RS Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 This picture was from many years ago.... yes, it's a very old picture which suggests that thoughts was given but never executed due to bad economy and low demand from the actual sales of tomahawk and defender. Quote
DarrinG Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I can see an HDP 1/60 Monster kit happening - for around $2,000 They could probably sell 50 of those. I would send my kids into the coals mines to see if I could be one of them... Quote
Mommar Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Even as much as I love the Monster there's no way in hell I could swing $2000 on that. I'll still hold out an impossible hope for a $500 version. Quote
