ff95gj Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I looked at it and thought hard what it doesn't look right to me -- It's the mecha design. While the finishing is Yamato-class, in previous models you get decoration/ contrast colors here and there. However, the VF-17 looks like a plastic kit in the 80s, molded and light grey and black, built without receiving further paint works. However, it's the way the VF-17 was designed. I believe once it gets tampoed and panel-lined it would look much better.
Xx-SKULL-ONE-xX Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Sigh..........do we have to go through this with each, new release. Photos are of a painted resin sculp, so of course fit & finish does not look great and why blocks are needed for support. Graham I thought the VF-19 resins looked awesome...just saying
1/1 LowViz Lurker Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 (edited) For those of you who think this is chunky in fighter mode keep in mind you want the "gunpod in leg" gimmick and the landing gear thing which needs to share space, so do take into account "durability" issue. If it holds together well and still looks decent in fighter mode (as opposed to being really slim but with no gunpod storage gimmick) that is ok to me personally. The vf-22 had no place to store the gunpods so it can still look as a slim fighter. (ie the gunpods sit in the fighter mode hip belly plate - but the toy doesn't let you squeeze them in) I don't expect that with vf-17 so I'm not as shocked like the rest of the people here. I want durability and chunky battroid mode for this mech. When standing next to a vf-11 I want this to look bulky while the vf-11 is skinny. Edited October 18, 2011 by 1/1 LowViz Lurker
anime52k8 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 (edited) Reminds me of the YF-19; too skinny in battroid mode and too fat in fighter mode. Color me disappointed. I'm glad I pre-ordered the VF-19S instead. :edit: And it's not even the legs that make it look fat. I don't mind the thick legs in fighter mode and I'm sure the alignment issues are just because it's a resin sculpt that quite peg together perfectly. What Makes it look fat is Nose cone; it's too thick and blunt looking. If the made the nose thinner and more pointed it would give the whole thing a nicer shape. Edited October 18, 2011 by anime52k8
Raptor One Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 The more I look at it the better it looks. I'm looking forward to seeing what the plastic version looks like.
charger69 Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 (edited) I like the articulation on feet on that gerwalk picture. I will keep it in battroid mode with the same extended feet level. Otherwise it looks like Graham's avatar Edited October 18, 2011 by charger69
pud333 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 The other pictures make this look much better. I like big girls too, but I just put $$$ down for a YF-21 and fold booster, so Ima gonna have to pass on this for a while. With the Vf-25F and S I have yet to pay for, plus all the other valks I want, I think this is on the back-burner.
Graham Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 If the made the nose thinner and more pointed it would give the whole thing a nicer shape. This is a VF-17, not a VF-171! Graham
1/1 LowViz Lurker Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 maybe they can have a swappable nose cone for slimness fanatics? again they forgot to show the gunpod. seems like they just do it to tease us.
takatoys Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 WOW! US$284 not including shipping. That is absurd. The toy has nothing special. It is not a limited edition or has multiple accessories. As I said on a previous post, this is the end for me as far as collecting 1/60 valks, either from Yamato or Bandai.
Reïvaj Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 (edited) Save up and only buy one of each type. That's what I'm going to do. That sounds sensible and it’s what I’m going to do too. Edited October 18, 2011 by Reïvaj
Getsuga Tenshou Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 One hell of an ugly prototype. Even the fighter mode is not appealing. At least for me its not.
anime52k8 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 This is a VF-17, not a VF-171! Graham I know, but I want it to look like this: a nose closer to the profile art and everything else the same would look so much better in my eyes.
Graham Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Problem is that side view art which everybody is comparing the toy to is terribly inaccurate as well. The legs, intakes, micro-missile ports, feet are all impossibly slim. Graham
Reïvaj Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Problem is that side view art which everybody is comparing the toy to is terribly inaccurate as well. The legs, intakes, micro-missile ports, feet are all impossibly slim. Graham …and the head is ridiculously big.
charger69 Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 (edited) Am I the only one who is content with 1/60 VF-17? Edited October 18, 2011 by charger69

Graham Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Am I the only one who is content with 1/60 VF-17? No, I love it and will be getting multiples. Graham
1/1 LowViz Lurker Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 (edited) When I look at the yamato it seems the windshield is at a different slope to the lineart. The windshield should be steeper. While the top portion of the nose should have a more gentle upward slope. Anyone else notice that? Edited October 18, 2011 by 1/1 LowViz Lurker
Reïvaj Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Am I the only one who is content with 1/60 VF-17? No, I like it too and I think we're not alone, though there still are a couple of things I'm not really convinced of, the price being one of them.
dreadnought Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I only saw the pictures of the nightmare today. It's not striking, it looks quite dumb looking to be honest and the absurd high price i doubt anybody except a crazy person here and there will buy 1 or even more. Quite disspointing... The anime look doens't work, they should have gone for a more realistic mold and half the price for me to be remotely interested in this mech.
D' only Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I like it, i think it looks better than how it was drew in Macross7.
macrossnake Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Althought, never be a fan of the VF-17 design, I think this toy looks good overall. The only complaint from me would be the high price.
nexxstrait Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 First of all: the fighter "lineart" posted is NOT a VF17 correct lineart at all. It comes from the MPlus TIA book and was not drawn by Kawamori. It's like taking the VF25 "lineart" from the Master Files as reference. This new incarnation of the VF17 looks very good in fighter and gerwalk. Battroid is really good looking too, even if - given the price and being unable to get multiples - I'll wait for a 17D as my Bandai 17S looks quite good in battroid, too.
kamadoma Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I find it good-looking, though I do have to admit that I might have to get used to some parts like the thin legs and Fighter mode's side view. I will probably have to wait for reviews to pop up first before going for the buy.
kanedaestes Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Damn........I am going to be so broke and living on the street but with all my awesome macross toys with me cause I am so getting this.
1/1 LowViz Lurker Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 So if that isn't true lineart which lineart is the true stuff? And what is this business about the robot mode collar? I heard someone say that the vf17 had a collar.
ErikElvis Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I think the finished product is going to look good. Ill be getting it. The head is kinda blah but thats just by its design. Not because of yamatos interpretation.
Ignacio Ocamica Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Am I the only one who is content with 1/60 VF-17? No, I absolutely love it!!! Already preordered Regular gerwalk mode looks awesome in that tiny pic

Sebastian Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Me likes the Bat mode. It does look kinda chunky in fighter I will get the toy for sure I have being waiting for so long o get a decent VF 17...
kanedaestes Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 So many complaints all ready...I like it especially from a fighter like this.
CF18 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I think the proportion looks OK. The only problem I have is the big area of internal white color showing at the knee joints. It may be a miss transform since in all other VF you only extend the knee joints for gerwalk mode, but given the ankle guard location I guess it's not the case. If it has to be this way then please paint that area to the same dark blue. It's a stealth fighter so at least make it looks like one.
