ErikElvis Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Im hoping the VF-4 is coming up. I Don't really care what series they come from or the amount of screen time as long as they look good. And the VF-4 has one of the best fighter modes out there..... but gonna be $300 plus prob. I would like the VF-2SS as well. I would like something different. This VF-17 was a surprise to me and ones gonna be comin to me!
Twoducks Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 (edited) Ok, so the final version does lack tampo symbols and intake lines... Well... not in a hurry to get this so I'm cancelling. I paid full price for the Gamlin VF-22 and that ended up having a different colour than the one on the box and lacked the tampo stripes on the tail fins that the box showed and later the Max and Millia did have. Now it's on a very heavy discount.... I'm more patient now and have enough Yamato first releases under my belt to play the "wait for the discount" game with a clear conscious. Lets also see what the bundles offer. Edited December 27, 2011 by Twoducks
Kyp Durron Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 (edited) my bet is yamato has the license to do vf-25. Everyone who just bought v2 vf-25 from bandai will be pissed because they have to fork out money a third time. man that'd be funny. lol wouldn't mind v3 yf-19 though. Come on of all the popular mechs that need redoing this is the one. Tiny gunpod. lack of locking chest. gullet. this is the most popular mech in mac plus and has recognition in both western macross fanbase and in japan. Lots of money to be made doing this again imo Then maybe they can redo yf-21 but give it more beefy calves like in the battroid mode lineart. I love fighter mode of this toy but its got tiny feet and skinny legs in bot mode. The theme of the recent yamato toys seems to be to make more chunky looking robot modes and let them be more posable. Valkyries are primarily FIGHTER air/spacecraft that can transform into ROBOTS, not ROBOTS that can transform into something that mostly resembles a fighter air/spacecraft, lol. The whole point in my opinion was to have realistic fighter modes that looked like they could really fly, and could also transform. If you want to play with chunky robots that can become fighters, you should buy yourself a GUNDAM, I think a few of them actually had something of a fighter mode, if memory serves. Now, granted, it seems that Yamato actually managed to pull that off with the VF-19 series so far, which I think is amazing. But fighters like the YF-21/VF-22, VF-25, and so on are all very well known for their sleekness, and that doesn't really give Yamato much room to play with for Battroid mode. -Kyp Edited December 27, 2011 by Kyp Durron

Shaorin Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 (edited) I really don't see a kit version happening though. The VF-19 is an absolute mess of tiny mechanisms. I can't even imagine what would be required to assemble one myself. really? then you ought to try tackling the 1/60 PG Z-GUNDAM. i'm certain you'd have the time of your life with it; http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/shaorin-chan/PERFECT%20GRADE%20ZETA%20GUNDAM/1-60PGZ-GUNDAM10-23-09.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/shaorin-chan/PERFECT%20GRADE%20ZETA%20GUNDAM/1-60PGZGUNDAM3-4-102.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/shaorin-chan/PERFECT%20GRADE%20ZETA%20GUNDAM/PGZGUNDAM12-11-09.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/shaorin-chan/PERFECT%20GRADE%20ZETA%20GUNDAM/1-60PerfectGradeZ-Gundam22.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/shaorin-chan/PERFECT%20GRADE%20ZETA%20GUNDAM/1-60PerfectGradeZ-Gundam21.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/shaorin-chan/PERFECT%20GRADE%20ZETA%20GUNDAM/1-60PGZ-GUNDAM-FINISHED2.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/shaorin-chan/PERFECT%20GRADE%20ZETA%20GUNDAM/1-60PerfectGradeZ-Gundam5.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/shaorin-chan/PERFECT%20GRADE%20ZETA%20GUNDAM/75680_about4.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/shaorin-chan/PERFECT%20GRADE%20ZETA%20GUNDAM/75680_about5.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/shaorin-chan/PERFECT%20GRADE%20ZETA%20GUNDAM/1-60PGZETAGUNDAM3.jpg Valkyries are primarily FIGHTER air/spacecraft that can transform into ROBOTS, not ROBOTS that can transform into something that mostly resembles a fighter air/spacecraft, lol. Shaorin Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 (edited) That looks like fun. believe you me, it was a BLAST. i was able to work on it all day for three days straight, and i still wasn't finished with it. in fact, i ended up screwing something up in assembly of one of the two lower leg modules, and had to dismantle the whole damned thing like twice or so before i finally got it right. that aside, it mostly went together quite smoothly, despite the complexity. it was, without doubt, the pinnacle model building experience of my life, and will likely remain so. that said, i still get way more enjoyment out of fiddling with my Yammie Valks than this impressive, yet wildly unrealistic over-engineered GUNDAM design ... Mechamaniac Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Indeed, PG Gundam kits are where it's at. I was locked in combat with the PG GP01 for two entire days during which I skipped SLEEP to finish it. However, I gotta say the 1/3000 SDF-1 is no slouch in that department either. Not so much the construction as the incredible amount of tiny details that you should be beaten repeatedly if you overlook during assembly. Anyhoo, back on VF-17 topic...
1/1 LowViz Lurker Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 (edited) Although it is true that the valk is a fighter with a bot mode not the other way around, I feel the yf-19 still needs to be redone. yf-19 with a locking chest, bigger gunpod, and lack of gullet and good posability in bot mode would be great. I bet you'd be the first in line to buy it again. I love the vf-19 and am happy with that in bot mode and when I look at the tiny gunpod of the yf-19 I laugh. Posing the two together side by side in bot mode is not good. Update would be nice. Edited December 27, 2011 by 1/1 LowViz Lurker
1/1 LowViz Lurker Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 (edited) In defence of gundam: it is a robot that transforms into alternate mode and gundam is all about space people vs earth people copying each others ideas and relying on psychic abilities to dodge beams and stuff.. In that show they have special robots for ground fighting, space fighting and air fighting and even under water.. It's not really fare to attack this for chunky appearance since in space things like this do not matter as much. They rely on armour and shields and cover, not just dodging things by doing crazy tricks in the air that would kill the pilot. It's not better or worse, people jut prefer different universe and argue about whose is cooler that's all. Please lets not make this into some gundam vs macross debate about which is more 'realistic' since they are both animated sci fi shows hehe I'm a fan of both and think you can still have something that looks good in both alternate mode (whether it be a fighter or the robot) and the primary mode. (whether it be the robot or fighter) I don't really like the chunky look of old valkyry toys. I just think certain parts look wrong. (tiny gunpod for yf-19, tiny feet for yf-21 etc) It's more the overall appearance in that mode, not that I love chunky fat hulking robots that become fat planes or anything like that. I did not like the 1;48 GBP armour as it did not resemble what we saw in the show as good as the v2 1/60 vf-1 GBP. I just think it is time for a new yf-19 based on the popularity of this mecha and to update it. Edited December 27, 2011 by 1/1 LowViz Lurker
VF5SS Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 You all betray the legacy of Gamlin For shame
Frogze Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Can someone shed some light about what the slots under the VF-17's wings are supposed to be used for? Are these hardpoints? I must say I can't remember seeing the 17's wings loaded with missiles in the series
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 QUICK! Upload them pics Graham, are you going to let Gamlin and his long awaited Nightmare be hijacked by GUNDAM TALK?!

I must say I can't remember seeing the 17's wings loaded with missiles in the series It's for the leg FAST packs They're supposed to hinge around on the legs but that's too messy so just plug them in for fighter mode and put them on again on Battroid

The ones under the wings should be keep the Super Parts flat to the wings while in fighter mode.
Graham Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 60 photos in all, all taken with the 8MP camera on my Samsung Galaxy S2 phone. Including the announcement of 1/60 VF-4G! But is it an unassembled, unpainted kit (I hope not), or an asempled, painted toy (I hope so). But an online shop exclusive Graham
Graham Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Created a thread for the VF-4G, discuss there please not in this thread. This thread is for the VF-17 discussion only. Graham

kamadoma Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Graham, can you see how many of those kite logo stickers of that same size you used were included in the sticker sheet?
Graham Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Great pictures, do you happen to have pictures of the plastic tray to show the contents, Graham? Your wish is my command. The box contains: 1 x instruction manual. 1 x sticker sheet. 1 x battroid mode stand attachment piece. 1 x fighter/gerwalk mode stand attachment piece. 2 x removable wrist covers for fighter/gerwalk mode. 1 x gunpod (splits into 2 halves). Graham Graham, can you see how many of those kite logo stickers of that same size you used were included in the sticker sheet? Only 2 of the red and white ones of that size. But there are also 2 x grey and white, 2 x white outline, 2 x grey outline that size. And then 4 smaller of each colour. Graham
kamadoma Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Thanks. Well, I guess one can use up other kite logos from other sticker sheets if they mess around with the trimming of the edges.
Frogze Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Thanks for the answers VF5SS and Reïvaj! Fantastic pics, Graham. The ones of fighter mode on the display stand have awakened the raging valkoholic in me
kanedaestes Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Sexy valk, time to start saving for hopefully a mid jan purchase

Scream Man Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Great pics Graham! Any chance we can see the mechanics for the gunpod detachment and storage?
Kelsain Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Here's a question for you Graham: In some of the ventral photos seen at GA like this one: It looks like the legs should push forward 1 more click to close that gap & hide the knee joint. Does the 17 do this? Or are the screws and metal exposed in fighter mode? I'm ok with the lack of tampo kites, since they included low-vis UNS & NUNS emblems. Who knows, might get suckered into a 17D...
Uxi Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 (edited) The stickers definitely need to be trimmed more. A shame the kites at least tampo on. Anyone still doing custom stickers or decals? That thing is a beauty, though. Edited December 28, 2011 by Uxi

Note in the photo you posted, the back of the lower leg is already right up against the belly plate. Graham
Kelsain Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Huh, that's strange and unfortunate. Those gaps are rather unsightly.
