Last night on SmackDown!:

- JBL made his "Victory Speech" following his tainted win over Booker T. This prompted Booker to come in and demand a rematch before Eddie Guerrero and the Undertaker came in the ring as well. As a result, Theodore R. Long issued a Fatal Four-Way match to take place at Armageddon next month.

- John Cena destroyed Carlito Caribbean Cool to regain the U.S. title, but in the end, he wound up on a stretcher after a vicious attack by Carlito's bodyguard Jesus.

WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW

Yuke's/Jakks Pacific/THQ, 2004

For Sony PlayStation 2

Rated T (Teen) for violence, mature situations and mild language.

Just when you thought WWE SmackDown!: Here Comes The Pain (2003) was the game to end all wrestling games, THQ and Yuke's bring in a new WWE game with better graphics, deeper gameplay, and a lot more T&A. If you can't stand HHH's backstage politics on RAW or the sheer boredom of SmackDown!, WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW may be the cure.

Gameplay: A

As with last year's game, SmackDown! vs. RAW captures players' attention with a wide array of moves and vast collection of WWE Superstars, not to mention the ability to create your own Superstars. This game goes further with the addition of a second power gauge. Your alignment as face (Clean) or heel (Dirty) plays a vital role on this gauge; heels use dirty tactics (i.e. removing the turnbuckle padding, executing low blows) while faces use clean tactics (i.e. "Hulking Up") to raise the bar. Once that guage is filled, players acquire temporary invulnerability during the match.

As always, players collect points to unlock special items in the WWE ShopZone, such as special moves, accessories, WWE Diva wallpapers, and classic Superstars. Speaking of which, the game's array of Legends includes Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake, the Legion of Doom, and possibly the most accurate representation of Bret "Hitman" Hart.

Unfortunately, Stone Cold, Brock Lesnar and Goldberg are not in this game. You'll need to collect over 20,000 points to unlock The Rock.

Graphics: A-

As predicted, SmackDown! vs. RAW boasts smoother graphics than its predecessor. In some ways, you'd rather watch this game than what WWE has on TV.

Sound: B+

When it was announced that SmackDown! vs. RAW includes play-by-play commentary, fans were worried, recalling the nightmares of WWF SmackDown!: Just Bring It's horrid voices. Well, no need to worry, as the commentary by Jim Ross, Jerry "The King" Lawler, Michael Cole and Tazz is more refined.

You also have actual voiceovers from various Superstars while playing Season mode. Of course, all of Tajiri's dialogue is in Japanese, since he can't speak English.

The Bottom Line

Whether you like wrestling or not, you must check out WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW. It's that damn good. Besides, it's the best way to vent your frustration on HHH.

The Rise + Fall of ECW

WWE Home Video, 2004

Rated TV-MA for graphic violence, mature situations and profanity.

Over a decade ago, there was a small wrestling promotion in Philadelphia, PA, called Eastern Championship Wrestling, which drew the attention of the city's rabid fans with its mix of hardcore fights and high-caliber wresting matches not found in the WWE or WCW. Then in 1994, when Shane Douglas became the undisputed NWA Champion, he turned down that organization's title and proclaimed the dawning of the era of extreme.

Under the helm of Paul Heyman, ECW (now known as Extreme Championship Wrestling) broke the boundaries of sports entertainment with its hardcore roster (Taz, Sabu, Rob Van Dam, Tommy Dreamer, the Dudley Boyz, etc.), along with the best from Canada (Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Lance Storm, etc.), Mexico (Rey Mysterio, Jr., Psychosis, Juventud Guerrera, etc.), Japan (Tajiri, Masato Tanaka, etc.) and wrestling legends (Terry Funk, etc.). While many of the wrestlers moved on to work for WWE or WCW, ECW continued to be a force to be reckoned with during the 1990s until its untimely demise due to bankruptcy.

This new DVD chronicles the important events that took place in this organization's life. Remember when Raven's flock crucified Sandman (Kurt Angle even boycotted the company when this incident occured after his appearance in the show)? Or how about when Tazz and Bam Bam Bigelow crashed through the ring? What about Tommy Dreamer's relationship with Beulah McGillycutty, which endured a false pregnancy angle and a supposed affair that turned out to be a lesbian one with Kimona Wanalaya ("What the hell? I'll have both, 'cause I'm hardcore!" - Dreamer)? Those were the good old days.

Another memorable moment was ECW's various run-ins with the WWE, which later on prompted an invasion by Jerry "The King" Lawler in the company.

And then you have Steve Austin (before he shaved his head and called himself "Stone Cold"). Released from WCW for no logical reason, Austin was given an opportunity by Heyman to vent out his frustration. The result: "Monday NyQuil". What a hoot!

While WCW had the nWo, ECW had the Blue World Order (bWo), consisting of Stevie Richards, Nova (now known in the WWE as Simon Dean) and The Blue Meanie ("You Fat F*ck! You Fat F*ck!" - ECW crowd chant). Later on, there was Al Snow's J.O.B. Squad, which eventually made its way to the WWE.

Interviews with current WWE Superstars formerly employed with ECW give detail to the company's interaction with its fans. Where else could you bring a weapon for a wrestler to use? Where did the "Holy Sh*t!" and "You F*cked Up!" chants originate? In ECW, of course. There are also some very unscripted interviews with Heyman along with Vinnie Mac and former WCW vice-president Eric Bischoff.

If it weren't for ECW, the WWE wouldn't have had its "Attitude". The Rise + Fall of ECW pays homage to those who shed their blood for the company. For those who go hardcore, we salute you.

Rating: A

DVD Extras

Content review under construction. DVD also comes with a limited-edition Rob Van Dam figure.

Earlier tonight on RAW:

- WWE completely ribbed the NFL with a segment involving Shelton Benjamin and Trish Stratus. Vinnie Mac himself killed the segment by saying that African-Americans are heavily attracted to Canadian blond women with broken noses. Shelton then left the locker room, telling Vinnie Mac to lighten up. Afterwards, Trish dropped her towel and jumped on Vinnie Mac. "Are you ready for some wrestling?!"

- GM of the Week: Chris Benoit.

- Simon Dean struck again, interrupting Stacy Keibler as she was about to give away a free DVD copy of The Rise + Fall of ECW. Hurricane rushed in to save the day, only to be belted by Simon before Rosey made the save.

- Uh-oh - dissention among the ranks of Evolution as HHH loses his trust on Batista.

- Coachman got gored by Rhyno. Yawn.

- Another Mohammed Hassan promo; this time, dealing with airport security. Double yawn.

- Benoit vs. HHH in a steel cage was called off after HHH decided to be a pussy by pretending to be knocked out by Batista.

- Benoit vs. Edge in a steel cage. What a surprise ending as Edge speared Benoit through the door, costing him the match.

- Yup, another case of bullsh*t by HHH as he tricked everyone into thinking the incident earlier was legit. However, Orton had a trick up his sleeve. Next week, when he's GM, a battle royal will take place for the World Championship.

On last night's edition of Squared Circle: Talk on Professional Wrestling, it was revealed that HHH wasn't the one pulling all the strings backstage. It turns out that every bad angle, every no-job and no-sell by HHH was actually orchestrated by Stephanie McMahon. Not to mention that there have been a ton of potentially good angles (many suggested by Paul Heyman, RVD and every other former ECW wrestler) that were considered by Vinnie Mac but shot down by Steph. Worse is that Steph is the one keeping Gene Snitsky in the spotlight, even if he can't wrestle.

But there are still many reasons to hate HHH. In a recent interview, he mentioned the following:

- Stiff workers have no business in the WWE. He was talking about people like Chris Benoit, RVD and just about anyone formerly employed in ECW. Ironically, HHH legitimately busted open Benoit, knocked a referee unconscious and broke Chris Jericho's hand with a steel chair last week.

- HHH has idolized Ric Flair since day one, but he will fire the Nature Boy if given any situation.

Back from the dead!!!!!

looks like Austin's "return" is to annouce a 3 movie deal...yawn

http://www.lordsofpain.net/news/2005/articles/1106017223.php

In response to the announcement regarding a press conference involving WWE and Steve Austin, WWE sent out a release that reveals the details of the announcement set for this week.

WWE will announce that the company and Austin have come to terms on a three-movie deal, all of which will be vehicles for the former WWF champion. The first project is "The Condemned," which features a cop on death row given a second chance upon agreement to star on a deadly reality show. While being pursued by ruthless killers, his key to freedom lies in the ability to take down the one person responsible for putting him behind bars.

The film division will also use the press conference to push its other upcoming projects, including "The Marine" and "Goodnight."

RAW from Canada last night ..eh alright. When will the Canadian fans let it go? The Bret Hart/HBK nonsense is about 7 years old. It's getting old guys.

Last night on RAW:

- Signs of the week: "Steph Fears Heyman," "HHH Fears Divorce," and "Security Stole My Sign." All by one person in front row.

- Where exactly is WWE going with Muhammad Hassan?

- It's a known fact that WWE doesn't respect hometown heroes. Christian is no exception, with HBK - the most hated wrestler in Canada - dropping him with the Sweet Chin Music.

- Despite having to fight Viscera, Batista continues to generate heavier pops from the crowd. Look for him to win the Royal Rumble and beat HHH at WrestleMania.

- Kane vs. Snitsky - what a way to kill an episode of RAW following an excellent match between Benoit and Y2J. As usual, the Toronto crowd showed their boredom by doing the Wave across the arena.

Well, the first major PPV of 2005 just ended, and here's the outcome:

WWE Royal Rumble Results

Edge pinned Shawn Michaels with a rollup and leverage from the ropes.

Casket Match

Now this was rather odd. During the match, Snitsky interfered and helped Heidenreich drag Undertaker towards the casket. Then, from inside the casket, Kane appeared and fought Snitsky all the way to the back. Nevertheless, Taker once again destroyed Heidenreich with a tombstone and locked him in the casket.

WWE Heavyweight Championship - Triple-Threat

John Bradshaw Layfield def. Big Show and Kurt Angle with the Clothesline from Hell on Angle.

World Heavyweight Championship

Triple-H used the Pedigree on Randy Orton again. Yawn.

Last night on RAW:

- HHH gloated about once again defeating Randy Orton at the Royal Rumble. He also congratulated Batista for winning the Rumble and said he's ready and waiting to defend his title at WrestleMania 21. However, the TitanTron played an interview with JBL, offering Batista an open contract to face him at WM21. An irate HHH demanded an explanation from Bischoff.

- It turned out that SmackDown! GM Theodore R. Long played the video to entice Batista into jumping ship. Meanwhile, HHH talked with Flair and thought Batista beating JBL at WM21 would be a good idea as it would mean Evolution will conquer all of WWE.

- Prepare for HBK vs. Kurt Angle at WM21.

- Kane defeated Snitsky in a steel cage. Yawn.

Also, WWE played its first WM21 commercial, featuring Eugene playing the part of Forrest Gump.

Eugene: "Hello. My name is Eugene. Would you like a chocolate? [Offers woman some chocolates; she shakes her head as she reads RAW magazine.] I love chocolates. My mama always said, life is like a box of chocolates - you'll never know what you're gonna get. I'm going to WrestleMania. I can remember the great moments like WrestleMania III, when Hogan picked up Andre the Giant and slammed him. Or how about WrestleMania XX, when Chris Benoit made Triple-H tap out to the crossface? Or how about WrestleMania 14, when Mike Tyson punched Shawn Michaels and knocked him out?"

[inadvertently punches woman. Realizing what he did, Eugene runs off.]

[William Regal appears and checks if the woman is okay.]

Regal: "Run, Eugene, Run!"

It was a parody of Basic Instinct featuring Stacy Keibler. :D:D:D:D:D

The detectives were played by Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, and Christian.:lol::lol:

......and I can't forget the special apperance by Mula and Mae Young at the end. YUCK.

Great commercial though. Stacy's legs were :) .

Speaking of Smackdown this weeks was filmed in Tokyo, Japan.

Speaking of Smackdown, this week's episode was filmed in Tokyo, Japan.

Yes, both RAW and SmackDown! rosters are in Japan this week. Just this past monday on RAW:

- Because RAW was in Japan, Yokohama native Tajiri drew the largest pop in the arena. He and William Regal defeated La Resistance to become the new Tag champs.

- And because RAW was in Japan, we actually had quality matches. Even HHH's match with Edge was worth watching. Why doesn't this ever happen in the U.S. anymore?

- As usual, any diva contest in the ring is worthless. For the Japanese crowd, Jerry "The King" Lawler hosted an "All-American Fashion Show" featuring Maria, Victoria and Christy Hemme. Simon Dean ran in to interrupt the contest to provoke Hawaiian sumo legend Akebono and tell the Japanese audience that just because they like sumo wrestling doesn't mean they have to look like one. He then went on to bag each of the divas. "Christy, don't tell me you spent all your $250,000 on junk food! Maria, you're supposed to look like a cowgirl, but you just look like a cow." Christy responded with a low blow on Simon.

- Batista squashed Maven in less than 20 seconds. So much for Maven's push...

- The Benoit/Y2J submission match alone was well worth the entire show.

Posted

Nothing much really happened this week, other than Batista wanting a piece of JBL.

RAW

- During the Batista/Edge match, HHH ran in and clobbered the referee, telling Batista to look at the TitanTron, which showed that JBL's limo had arrived. Evolution left the arena, but before arriving at the parking lot, Batista told HHH and Flair to back off. As Batista entered the driveway, HHH shoved him off to prevent JBL's limo from running him over.

SmackDown!

- JBL heard that Batista was headed for the show, and he blamed GM Theodore R. Long for the mess that happened on RAW. He then brought his entire staff to the ring and challenged Batista to come in. Backstage, Batista parked his Benz and pulled out a Louisville Slugger, using it to smash all the windows off JBL's limo. He then tore the horns off the car before driving off. As Orlando Jordan and the Bashams chased Batista, the diversion left JBL helpless against the Big Show. It wasn't long before JBL's staff returned to do a 4-on-1 beatup on Show. That's when Batista ran in and destroyed Orlando and the Bashams, while JBL high-tailed it. The show ended with a staredown between Batista and Show.

This Sunday, after the Daytona 500, I'll be covering the results for the No Way Out PPV. Chances are that JBL will win again.

Also, WWE released their latest WrestleMania 21 commercial. This one features Booker T. and Eddie Guerrero playing Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta in a Pulp Fiction parody.

"And you will know my name is The Lord, when I lay my vengeance upon thee! Now can you dig that, SUCKAAA!!!"

Is it just me or is it kinda crappy of the WWE not inducting Hulk Hogan into the hall of fame? I really don't like him but if it wasn't for him wrestling would be nowhere. Hell the guys(Orndorff, The Iron Sheik, Volkoff etc.) that are nominated this year all benefited from him

Blame it on Vinnie Mac, who still hates Hogan to this day. Over a decade ago, when the government put Vince on trial for steroid abuse among WWF superstars, Hogan testified against him.

Now I know that there have been many who sued Vince and burned their bridges with the WWF in the past (namely Jesse Ventura, Bret Hart and just about anyone who jumped ship to WCW), but over time, they made up with Vince and eventually got their names in the Hall of Fame (or will eventually get their names in next year's).

As always, SmackDown! PPVs suck.

WWE No Way Out Results

Sunday Night Heat Opener

Charlie Haas/Hardcore Holly def. Rene Dupree/Kenzo Suzuki after Holly landed the Alabama Slam on Dupree.

WWE SmackDown! Tag Team Championship

Eddie Guerrero/Rey Mysterio def. the Basham Brothers

Booker T. def. Heidenreich by DQ.

WWE Cruiserweight Championship - Elimination

1. Paul London rolled Funaki for the pin after Spike Dudley kicked Funaki in the back.

2. London pinned Spike after Funaki landed a superkick on Spike's face.

3. London destroyed Shannon Moore with the 450 Splash.

4. Akio was eliminated by KO after London did a swinging neckbreaker on him off the top rope.

5. Chavo Guerrero used the ropes for leverage while pinning London to regain the Cruiserweight title.

Undertaker made Luther Reigns rest in peace.

No. 1 Contender's Match

John Cena landed the F-U on Kurt Angle.

2005 WWE Diva Rookie

Joy Giovanni won the contest. Yawn.

WWE Championship - Barbed-Wire Steel Cage

During the match, Big Show chokeslammed JBL from the top rope, creating a big hole in the ring. After ripping the chains off the door, Show walked out of the cage. However, JBL won the match by crawling out from under the ring.

After the match, JBL's staff ran in and attacked Show. This prompted Batista to make his appearance, destroying Orlando Jordan and the Bashams. JBL limped out of the scene, only to be pummelled by Cena through some TV equipment.

Last night on RAW:

- HHH revealed that he orchestrated the attempted hit-and-run on Batista by a limo dressed up to look like JBL's.

- During the contract signing, it looked like Batista was about to jump ship to SmackDown!, until he decided to clobber HHH and sign the RAW contract.

Now the question is: Will Triple H actually drop the title at Wrestlemania to Batista, or is this just another setup for a lame and oh-so brief rivalry. Case in point, the "fued" between HHH and Orton. They did a couple of matches, and while HHH hasn't budged from the top spot, Orton is reduced to doing promos with Stacey Keibler.

Orton - "Umm...you want to get some dinner?"

Stacey - "Suuuuuuuure :) "

Audience - "Barrrrrrrffffff!!!!"

Regardless of how bad wrestling has become over the past four years, most fans will still watch WM simply because it's a tradition. So far, we have confirmed two championship matches (HHH vs. Batista, JBL vs. Cena) and HBK has an open contract (which means he's facing Kurt Angle), but no one knows what other matches will be featured.

He's had it for a pretty long time (considering how long Smackdown title reigns usually last), I think he beat Guerrero for the tittle at Bad Blood.

Every time I think JBL's gonna lose he finds some way to win (usually by cheating). Besides. He's one of the worst champions in a LONG TIME. Who the hell decided to give him that huge push anyways?

In the case of HHH, it doesn't matter how long he's held the belt. It's how many times he's held it. So far, he's a 10-time champion, looking to beat Ric Flair's reign of 16-time.

JBL has held the WWE title since winning it from Eddie Guerrero at The Great American Bash this past June.
