1st Border Red Devil Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 Well...as Ive stated elsewhere...Im pessimistically hopeful for Invasion. I really want to hope that Tommy doesnt flub the story and that it actually doesnt suck. Invasion Sneak Peeks Now...if only some VF/B-5 Condors are added...that would round out things. Quote
the white drew carey Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 Once again: I like the coloring and think it's done very well. But (almost) everything else doesn't work. I think it's cartoony looking, and the mecha and spaceships look too "bubbly" for my tastes. The one frame I actually do enjoy is the top-righthand one of Lancer (?). Quote
Effect Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 (edited) I think it's cartoony looking, and the mecha and spaceships look too "bubbly" for my tastes. That's how I felt when I looked at them. The coloring is great though. I would have much prefered if they stuck to the style that was used in the From the Stars(prequel story) and Love and War instead of these new style. Weren't they trying to go for a more anime type of style in this? Bad idea in my opinion. The other was working for them and looked great. Oh well. Edited November 26, 2003 by Effect Quote
yellowlightman Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 Gonna have to be redundant and agree with theothers; colors looks good but the pencils stink. Gimme Tim Eldred's Invid War art over this any day. Quote
the white drew carey Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 In the first frame the perspective on that big green spaceship is all screwy. Quote
Aegis! Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 The top-right hand one looks like Gundam wing That said , the colouring is nice , apart from that , good luck. Quote
1st Border Red Devil Posted November 28, 2003 Author Posted November 28, 2003 (edited) In the first frame the perspective on that big green spaceship is all screwy. Yea... the scale seems to be off now that you mention it. The Garfish's are supposed to be 179m long. From the way it is drawn...looks more like 70m. And yes..it is Lancer in the top frame (he's the one wearing CVR-3 and piloting an AF-03 Bat). Edit: Added image of Garfish-class Light Cruiser with VF/A-6 Alpha for scale comparison. The AF-03 Bat should be about the same length as the Alpha....where as the Invid Scout with Booster is about half the length of the Alpha (and those Invid shouldnt have the booster anyways....they were launched from a troop carrier...but that is my anal retentive side coming out ...which makes the Invid Scout less than half the length of an Alpha...closer to 1/3.) EXO Posted November 28, 2003 Posted November 28, 2003 Aside from the mech, everything looks great. I too would like to see realistically scaled ships. I think I'll be picking it up for the Amano covers and hope to be surpised with the contents inside. Quote
Phyrox Posted November 28, 2003 Posted November 28, 2003 (and those Invid shouldnt have the booster anyways....they were launched from a troop carrier...but that is my anal retentive side coming out eh, it was always my understanding that the Shell-Dor transports could only carry Iagaas w/ boosters. That's what they launch in the first episode...and the published line art has a cross-section drawing of its launch bays, and shows an Iagaa Booster in it. Quote
1st Border Red Devil Posted November 28, 2003 Author Posted November 28, 2003 Hmm....you're right. I'll have to go back and rewatch The Invid Invasion...I could have sworn that the Invid Scouts launched from the Shell-Door Transport did not have the boosters...but those flying from the surface were outfitted with the boosters. gnollman Posted November 28, 2003 Posted November 28, 2003 Looks good... maybe I should get back into the Robotech comics.... Quote
CoryHolmes Posted November 29, 2003 Posted November 29, 2003 It's not like the New Gen. animation is wholly correct in the first place I'd stick with the line-art more than I would with what's seen in the actual animation. Quote
TriShield Posted November 29, 2003 Posted November 29, 2003 Not bad, but I couldn't care less about Robotech. Quote
Noyhauser Posted December 8, 2003 Posted December 8, 2003 sorry to dredge this thread up, but I found out that there are two artists at work here. Tak Miyazawa does the character drawings. He also does Uncanny X-men, coming out on wendsday. The other guy (who I do not know his name), does the mecha frames. Thats why there is a different style of art to it. Quote
Isamu Atreides 86 Posted December 8, 2003 Posted December 8, 2003 save your money for Fables, Stormwatch, Wildcats, Sleeper or Queen and Country. Quote
Noyhauser Posted December 8, 2003 Posted December 8, 2003 Storywise, I'll give you that, robotech is not a story worth following, and since it is giving more money to my dreaded enemy HG, don't buy i on those grounds. Artwise is another matter, I think that Robotech lucked out in getting him as an artist, and if anything he will be the sole redeeming quality of that comic book will have. He draws in a manga style which would go well with a faux japanese style that symbolizes robotech. Quote
waylandcool Posted December 8, 2003 Posted December 8, 2003 I'm really tempted not to get because of the cheap cop-out storytelling at the end of "Love and War". Yune screwed that up royal and I'm sure he'll do something stupid at the end of this one too. Quote
91WhiskeyM6 Posted December 8, 2003 Posted December 8, 2003 (edited) Bah...I'd rather spend my hard earned money on Dreamwave Comics. Edited December 8, 2003 by 91WhiskeyM6 Quote
