Hikuro Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 looks more robocopish than the movie does. Quote
Kanedas Bike Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Even the classic colors on a toy looks better than the black "suit". Re: the Play Arts figures the silver does look better than the black, but they both look good. Looking forward to picking them up. -b. Quote
Negotiator Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 It would be cool with light up visor, complete with broken shoulders. Quote
Kanedas Bike Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 It would be cool with light up visor, complete with broken shoulders. Wait, as actual gimmicks or is there some issue with the Play Arts Kai figures where folks have ended up with broken shoulders (or other pieces)? -b. Quote
Black Valkyrie Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 The Kai figures look awesome, especially the reboot silver version. Quote
Black Valkyrie Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Jada Toys officially unveils Robocop figures. Got to buy'em all. Quote
Einherjar Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Nope There's also a TV series: Oh and the Prime Directives mini-series had this line in it.. Link Also lightsabers Remember the time when he became a federal agent and fought cyborgs? (I am really sorry for this) Quote
azrael Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Trailer #2 and poster: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNIxcH-LyaU Quote
Knight26 Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Ok, other than the director at the beginning this trailer almost has me sold on this being a fun, maybe not good, but fun movie. I like the bit with SLJ asking why we can use ED robots overseas but not in america. It calls out the whole drone debate in the news nicely. Quote
BeyondTheGrave Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Remember the time when he became a federal agent and fought cyborgs? (I am really sorry for this) Doesn't top the lightsabers. And yes I do remember it. Quote
Kanedas Bike Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Ok, 2nd trailer does make the movie look like it'll be fun. I'll give it a go in theaters when it comes out. FYI for those interested the Play Arts Kai figures are up and available for pre-order on AmiAmi now. -b. Quote
Hikuro Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Hm, I wanna see it, I do. Only problem is it doesn't have that same Umpf as the original did. It feels like a generic super effects scifi flick. I'm not complaining, I'll go see it, but I'm not expecting to be wowed off my seat. Quote
skullmilitia Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Another garbage "hero goes after the corporation that made him" storyline. Why don't they just change the title to Robocorporate and leave the old story Intact. Hollywood should get an award for story Recycling! Quote
taksraven Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Why, oh why, does he have to move like a frikkin Ninja now? And a CGI one AT THAT!!!! Quote
Black Valkyrie Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Robocop, Batman, Nick Fury and Commissioner Gordon thats good enough. Quote
Duke Togo Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Trailer #2 and poster: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNIxcH-LyaU BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW Quote
skullmilitia Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Somewhere Frank Miller is face palming. Quote
mechaninac Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 It doesn't look terrible, but it doesn't look that good either; mediocre is how I'd describe my first impression to this last trailer... it may be worth a rental. Quote
Black Valkyrie Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I`m more excited about it, than SW-E7 and Terminator Reboot. Quote
miles316 Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Did the 'Ghost in the shell' source material Book/manga come out before or after they made the first 'Robocop' movie? Quote
Vile Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Okay, I'm in. I'll give it a fair shot at the cinema. Quote
EXO Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Did the 'Ghost in the shell' source material Book/manga come out before or after they made the first 'Robocop' movie? Robocop came out 2 years before GiTS. Quote
Duke Togo Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Somewhere Frank Miller is face palming. His script work is generally pretty putrid. A movie like this from him would be par for the course. Quote
hutch Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Yes, the man who brought us "I'm the GD Batman" has plenty of room to be high on his dialogue capabilities... Quote
miles316 Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Robocop came out 2 years before GiTS. I was curious because most Cyberpunk/Cyborg movies end up being called a rip off of GITS. Quote
Dobber Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 (edited) After looking at the play Arts figures, I didn't realize that it is more than just a recolor between the classic colored 1.0 and the Black colored 3.0, but the armor is different as well. The 1.0 is so much better looking in both color and style than the 3.0. The 1.0 just looks more robotic to me with the more narrow waist and more angular parts. EXO Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I was curious because most Cyberpunk/Cyborg movies end up being called a rip off of GITS. A lot of the modern genre film makers do get their inspirations from Shirow and other manga/anime but a lot of the 70/80s science fiction writers in america, japan and other parts of the world read a lot of science fiction books from authors such as Heinlein and Philip K. Dick. If you read and watch Heavy Metal, there's a ton of shorts that are filled with fantasy and sci-fi. But yeah... Shirow's GiTS set the stage for a lot of the feel of today's cyberpunk tech. Quote
mechaninac Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Wasn't GiTS itself heavily influenced, at least in visual look and style, by Blade Runner? I may be wrong, but I "recall" reading that somewhere... Quote
EXO Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Philip K Dick... Even Bubblegum Crisis was Bladerunner influenced. Priss and the Replicants? Quote
renegadeleader1 Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Philip K Dick... Even Bubblegum Crisis was Bladerunner influenced. Priss and the Replicants? And Bubblegum Crisis in turn influenced a lot of imagery in Robocop 2. Quote
sketchley Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Let's not forget that GitS was predated by another Shirow cyberpunk classic: Appleseed. ... and in the list of authors, one can't forget the creator of the term cyberspace: William Gibson. Quote
GU-11 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Seems like a fun action flick, if nothing else. Definitely worth a rental. Quote
