areaseven
On this week's episode of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 16: "Clash! Sentai vs. Sentai" (激突!戦隊VS戦隊) Legend of the Week: Tohru Furuya (Mamoru/Tuxedo Kamen in Sailor Moon, Pegasus Seiya in Saint Seiya) as Aka Red (voice) Villain of the Week: Basco ta Jolokia Gokai Color of the Week: N/A Past Sentai of the Week: None Time is running out as Basco demands for Captain Marvelous to surrender the Ranger Keys and the Gokai Galleon in exchange for the lives of his shipmates. But the captain has other plans up his sleeve. Today's episode further explores Captain Marvelous' past and continues to prove that Basco is a total prick. Surprisingly, none of the Zangyack regulars are anywhere to be seen. Still, the outcome of the exchange is totally unexpected, and we're treated to more fights between the Gokaigers and the 10 extra Super Sentai warriors controlled by Basco. Yeah, we'll be seeing more of him throughout the series. Next week on Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 17: "The Amazing Silver Man" (凄い銀色の男) Gokai Silver finally makes his debut, but will the Gokaigers accept him? areaseven
On this week's episode of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 17: "The Amazing Silver Man" (凄い銀色の男) Introducing: Junya Ikeda as Gai Ikari/Gokai Silver Legend of the Week: None Villain of the Week: Action Commander Arumadon Gokai Color of the Week: N/A Past Sentai of the Week: None Navi's latest prophecy is for the Gokaigers to look for a man in silver. What they get is a rather annoying Super Sentai fanboy who turns out to be Gokai Silver. Wow... this guy really knows how to make an entrance. The Gokaigers' sixth member has arrived, and if you're a fan of Genta Umemori/Shinken Gold of Samurai Sentai Shinkenger, this guy's got just about the exact same personality - except he wears pink pants and is probably more annoying to talk to. His Gokai Cellular looks much cooler than the Mobirates, and his intro is just downright cheesy. Regardless of his campy nature, Gokai Silver's Final Wave attack, the Gokai Shooting Star, is a rather brutal move. I look forward to seeing how the regular crew handles him. Easter Eggs Gokai Silver's introduction makes references to the lyrics of the Himitsu Sentai Goranger theme song: red sun, blue sky, yellow dust storm, pink cheeks and green fields. Two weeks from today on Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 18: "The Big Abare with the Dinosaur Robot Drill" (恐竜ロボットドリルで大アバレ) Gai reveals the secret to his Gokai Silver powers. areaseven
Earlier this week, a press conference was held to announce this summer's tokusatsu double-bill: Kamen Rider OOO Wonderful: The Shogun and the 21 Core Medals and Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger The Movie: The Flying Ghost Ship. To no surprise, the Gokaiger movie will be presented in 3D in select theaters. This also marks Gokai Silver's first press conference appearance. RedWolf
The last Gokai Machine? Before that is the Hurricangers Gokai Machine. Rumor has it G3 Princess actresses would show up for the Go-onger ep. Though they'll appear in the Ghost movie. They already received Go-onger's power in the 199 Great Battle movie. A monster made up of all the mooks from Super Sentai for the Ghost movie. areaseven
On this week's episode of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 18: "The Big Abare with the Dinosaur Robot Drill" (恐竜ロボットドリルで大アバレ) Legend of the Week: Kotaro Tanaka as Dr. Mikoto Nakadai Villain of the Week: Action Commander Osogain Gokai Color of the Week: Silver Past Sentai of the Week: Samurai Sentai Shinkenger (Power Rangers Samurai) Gai reveals to the Gokaigers that while recovering from his injuries after saving a girl from a car accident, the spirits of Dragon Ranger, Time Fire and Abare Killer granted him the powers of the Zyurangers (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), Timerangers (Power Rangers Time Force) and Abarangers (Power Rangers Dino Thunder) and the ability to change into Gokai Silver. However, as Gai has yet to unlock those powers, Captain Marvelous confiscates his Gokai Cellular and Ranger Key until he can prove himself worthy to be a Gokaiger. Despite having the week off last Sunday, this show keeps getting better by the minute. The appearances of Dragon Ranger, Time Fire and Abare Killer may be very short, but they do add to Gai's back-story. Shinkenger fans will love the scene where all six Gokaigers change into the Samurai Sentai. Plus, we are introduced to Gokai Silver's mecha: Gozyujin. I'm not a big fan of dinosaur-based mecha in the Super Sentai series, but Gozyujin has a design that actually works on all three of its modes (Gozyudrill, Gozyurex and Gozuyjin). And thankfully, Gozyujin's fight uses significantly less CG than those of Gokaioh's. Next week on Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 19: "Armor of the 15 Warriors" (15戦士の鎧) Don feels left out, now that Gai is part of the crew. areaseven
On this week's episode of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 19: "Armor of the 15 Warriors" (15戦士の鎧) Legend of the Week: None Villain of the Week: Action Commander Worlian Gokai Color of the Week: Green Past Sentai of the Week: Engine Sentai Go-onger (Power Rangers RPM) With Gai now a full-fledged Gokaiger, Don feels left out. Meanwhile, the Zangyack Empire sends down Action Commander Worlian, who has the ability to steal people's skeletons using his fishing rod. When he fishes out the bones of four of the Gokaigers, Don and Gai must find a way to defeat him and turn their shipmates back to normal. It's your typical episode where the newbie takes the spotlight and the weakest regular begins to resent him. In addition, you get to know how the Gokai Buckle works (a Gokaiger can simply summon a Ranger Key remotely from the treasure chest) and we finally see the much talked-about Gold Mode of Gokai Silver. Believe me - despite the hokey 15 faces design of the chest plate, Gold Mode is simply badass. On a side note, Filipino and French Super Sentai fans will get a kick out of Gokai Green changing into Green Two from Choudenshi Bioman (a show Saban nearly got on U.S. TV). Next week on Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 20: "The Lost Forest" (迷いの森) The latest clue to the Greatest Treasure in the Universe leads to the forest of the Gingamen. areaseven
Really big news for the toy line: Go-onger's Great Power Revealed After the Hurricanegers' Fuuraimaru is released, the next Gokai Machine will be based on Engine Sentai Go-onger. Engine Machalcon is an open-wheel racer that resembles Engine Speedor. The DX toy will come with the Go-on Gold Ranger Key and two Engine Souls. Engine Machalcon will combine with Gokaioh to form Go-on Gokaioh with a setup similar to Gao Gokaioh (yeah, WTF?). In addition, Engine Machalcon will also combine with Gokaioh and Gozyujin to form Kanzen Gokaioh. Gokai Galleon Buster Revealed A new Final Wave has been revealed! The Gokaigers will finally get their own team bazooka in the form of the Gokai Galleon Buster. Looking somewhat like a cross between the Gokai Galleon and the Space Battleship Yamato, the weapon is, as usual, powered by the Gokaigers' Ranger Keys. The DX toy will come with a metallic repaint of the Gokai Red Ranger Key. It is unknown how the Gokai Galleon Buster will be portrayed on TV - whether it's a separate weapon or the Gokai Galleon itself shrunken down. Well, there goes my trust fund... They meet Hyuuga - the former Black Knight, but they also lock horns once again with Basco ta Jolokia. Gai is excited to meet one of his heroes, but is torn between being a Gokaiger and giving his powers up to the more-experienced Hyuuga. Needless to say, Basco is back to stir trouble for our fellow pirates. But as a Super Sentai tribute episode, it feels more like a filler. There's too much focus on the interaction between Gai and Hyuuga, and Ryouma doesn't do much at all here (Ban in the Dekaranger tribute episode didn't do much, either, but his appearance didn't feel useless in comparison). In addition, while the Gokaigers are granted the powers of the Gingamen, there's no mention of exactly what it is. Are we left with a power that's "useless" like that of the Carrangers? Next week on Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 21: "The Heart of an Adventurer" (冒険者の心) For the first-time ever: two Super Sentai tributes back-to-back! The former Bouken Red must get the help of the Gokaigers to acquire a "Precious".
areaseven
On this week's episode of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 21: "The Heart of an Adventurer" (冒険者の心) Legend of the Week: Mitsuomi Takahashi (Hayate in Cho Ninja-tai Inazuma!) as Satoru Akashi Villain of the Week: Creator King Ryuuwon Gokai Color of the Week: N/A Past Sentai of the Week: GoGo Sentai Boukenger (Power Rangers Operation Overdrive) and Ninja Sentai Kakuranger (Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers) Satoru Akashi - the former Bouken Red - asks the Gokaigers to help him on a quest to recover a Precious known as the "Heart of Hades". The Zangyack Empire is also on the trail, but they're the least of the Gokaigers' worries - as an arch-nemesis of the Boukengers returns from the dead. Despite its simplistic plot, this episode is one of the better Super Sentai tributes with its non-stop action and a little more back-story on Captain Marvelous and Aka Red. As a matter of fact, it's so much better than the entire 2006 snooze-fest GoGo Sentai Boukenger. I might even give that show another chance because of this. Plus, we get to see three Gokaigers become the Kakurangers - whose attacks are so powerful that not only do you feel them, you can read them! areaseven
On this week's episode of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 22: "A Promise on a Shooting Star" (星降る約束) Legend of the Week: None Villain of the Week: Action Commander Stargle Gokai Color of the Week: N/A Past Sentai of the Week: Tensou Sentai Goseiger (next year's Power Rangers), Gosei Sentai Dairanger (season 2 of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) and Chouriki Sentai Ohranger (Power Rangers Zeo) Joe and Gai meet a young boy who is headed toward a mountain to fulfill a promise made a year ago. Meanwhile, the Zangyack Empire sends Action Commander Stargle to activate a relic on that same mountain to bring forth destruction on Earth. For a filler episode, this is actually very entertaining. The ending may be a bit over-the-top (even by most Super Sentai standards), but it shows that the Gokaigers are a very cohesive team - especially since they're pirates. It's also good to see all six members change into the Dairangers, even though it was only for at most 10 seconds. Next week on Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 23: "People's Lives Are the Future of the World" (人の命は地球の未来) The Gokaigers meet the former Go Pink of KyuuKyuu Sentai GoGoFive. As the Gokaigers are out helping other people, Luka and Ahim meet EMT Matsuri Tatsumi - the former Go Pink from Kyuukyuu Sentai GoGoFive. However, they once again lock horns with Basco - who is out to claim GoGoFive's greater power for himself. For this Legend tribute episode, the girls take the spotlight. We get to know a little more about Luka-chan and her dark past, and her struggle to make sure no one shares the same fate. If anything, it's more of a filler, but still a worthwhile episode for fans of Luka-chan and Ahim-chan. Meanwhile, Action Commander Senden attempts to conquer Earth using propaganda. Jellacit from the Carranger tribute episode returns, which means this filler episode displays parts of episode 14's slapstick comedy. Other than that, the Action Commander of the week is typical fodder and the ending is shockingly f*cked up. areaseven
Ranger Key Series: Gokai Gun (ゴーカイガン) Bandai, 2011 Made in China Requires two AAA batteries (not included) Contents Gokai Gun Gokai Blue Ranger Key The Gokai Gun is the Gokaigers' personal sidearm, resembling a flintlock pistol commonly associated with classic pirates. And for those who want to cosplay as their favorite Gokaiger, this is a must-have accessory. Once you insert the batteries, flip the power switch located on the right side near the barrel and the gun fires up with the Mobirates ringtone. Unlike other sound-emitting toy guns, the Gokai Gun's speaker is where it should be: at the tip of the barrel. This results in a more realistic feel to the sound effects. Pulling the trigger emits one of three different blast sounds. Holding the trigger for two seconds activates the voice of narrator Tomokazu Seki (Yzak in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, Keisuke in Initial D) yelling, "Gokai ni ikuze!" ("Let's Gokai!"). The gun is very well-detailed with a nice glossy red finish topped with a brilliant teal frame surrounding the silver Gokaiger logo and mechanical details on the sides. There's also a nicely-painted red Gokaiger logo with a gold ring on the chamber release button in front of the trigger. It would've been completely perfect if not for the messy sprue flashes on the bottom end of the gun. Included with the Gokai Gun is the Gokai Blue Ranger Key. Most fans would find this odd, as Gokai Blue is more of a swordsman. But since the Gokai Yellow Ranger Key comes with the Gokai Sabre, what can you do? The main feature of the Gokai Gun is its Final Wave mode. Press the chamber release button to pop open the top cylinder. And just like the Mobirates, insert any Ranger Key and half-crank it clockwise. (Unlike the Mobirates, the Gokai Gun, Gokai Saber and Gokai Spear will emit the same sounds, regardless of which Ranger Key is used.) Push the chamber back into position and Seki's voice yells, "FINAL WAAAAAVE!!!" before the gun emits a charging sound. Pulling the trigger changes it into the Gokai Blast sound, which plays every time the trigger is pulled until the Ranger Key is ejected. Although it's designed mainly for kids, adults will have no problem wielding the gun. And unlike the super-deformed Gokai Sabre (and other Super Sentai toy swords released in the past decade), the Gokai Gun looks and functions like the actual prop used in the TV series. Maybe it would've been better if it had some LEDs to further replicate the Final Wave effects, but that's just a minor nitpick. It is my favorite Super Sentai gun next to the D-Magnum set of Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger. I tell you, this series has been putting major dents on my bank account. Hopefully, by the end of the year, I'll complete the cosplay set with the Gokai Sabre and the Gokai Buckle. areaseven
On this week's episode of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 25: "Pirates and Ninjas" (海賊とニンジャ) Legends of the Week: Shun Shioya as Yosuke Shiina, Nao Nagasawa as Nanami Nono, and Kohei Yamamoto as Kouta Bitou Villains of the Week: Space Ninjas Sandaaru Jr. and Satarakura Jr. Gokai Color of the Week: None Past Sentai of the Week: Chjoujuu Sentai Liveman (too '80s for Power Rangers fans), Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger (Power Rangers Dino Thunder) Sandaaru Jr. and Satarakura Jr. - the sons of two fallen villains in Ninpuu Sentai Hurricaneger (Power Rangers Ninja Storm) - are sent by the Zangyack Empire to turn people into chestnuts and use them to launch a missile that spells certain chaos. When the Gokaigers cannot handle the two space ninjas, and Captain Marvelous, Joe and Luka are trapped inside a pocket dimension, the Hurricanegers come out of retirement. However, they won't help Don, Ahim and Gai save their comrades unless they get their Ranger Keys back. Finally, after weeks of fillers, we get another awesome tribute episode. And what better way to answer the age-long Pirates vs. Ninjas debate than this one. Sure, the villains' plot is a tad hokey, but that's compensated with non-stop action that hasn't been seen since the Shinkenger tribute episodes. And Nanami-chan is as gorgeous as ever! But it doesn't end here, as this episode ends in a cliffhanger. Anime fans will definitely recognize the voices of this week's baddies. Sandaaru Jr. is voiced by Shuuichi Ikeda (Char Aznable in Mobile Suit Gundam, Captain Napolipolita in Project A-Ko), while Satarakura Jr. is voiced by Bin Shimada (Stick Bernard in Mospeada, Paptimus Scirocco in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam). Next week on Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 26: "Shushutto The Special" (シュシュッとTHE SPECIAL) Captain Marvelous, Joe and Luka fight to survive in Satarakura Jr.'s pocket dimension while the other Gokaigers and the Hurricangers team up in a race to save them. areaseven
On this week's episode of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 28: "Wings Forever" (翼は永遠に) Legend of the Week: Toshihide Wakamatsu as Gai Yuki/Black Condor Villain of the Week: Bounty Hunter Kiaido Gokai Color of the Week: None Past Sentai of the Week: Choujin Sentai Jetman (the one Saban ignored for Power Rangers), Choudenshi Bioman (the one Saban almost brought out in the '80s) and Hikari Sentai Maskman (too '80s for Power Rangers fans) Intergalactic bounty hunter Kiaido is hired to deal with the Gokaigers. Kiaido's presence makes the fearless Captain Marvelous tremble, as they have once battled each other in the past. After the pirates are heavily defeated, they learn that Navi's latest treasure navigation leads them to the powers of the Jetmen. Their quest is further complicated when a man on a motorcycle attacks the Gokaigers and takes Joe and Captain Marvelous' Mobirates with him. Even more puzzling is that the man is not visible to Gai. After months of speculation, the issue of Gai Yuki's presence in Gokaiger has been answered in this episode. On the final episode of Choujin Sentai Jetman, Gai was stabbed by a mugger while on his way to his teammates' wedding. He managed to attend the ceremony, but died due to his stab wound. With no other original cast member available for this Jetman tribute, Toshihide Wakamatsu was brought in to reprise his role - but this time, as a ghost. Wakamatsu has practically not aged for the past 20 years, still displaying his cocky attitude that made Black Condor a Super Sentai legend. Toshiki Inoue (Iron Man anime, Devil May Cry: The Animated Series), one of Jetman's original writers, brings in Jetman's dark and somber atmosphere in this episode. Despite being a bit of a tear-jerker, it provides some excellent fight scenes between our heroes and the bad guy of the week. Plus, we also get to see some more old-school Super Sentai suits from the '80s: Bioman and Maskman. Easter Eggs 1. Gai Ikari sings the Jetman theme as he, Captain Marvelous and Ahim are out looking for the Jetmen. 2. A bottle of Macallan whiskey sits on Gai Yuki's tombstone. In Jetman, Macallan was Gai's signature drink. Other mementos on Gai's tombstone signify the other four Jetmen: A ramen cup (Ako Hayasaka/Blue Swallow), two bouquets of flowers (Ryu Tendo/Red Hawk and Kaori Tendo/White Swan) and a basket of fruits and vegetables (Raita Ooishi/Yellow Owl). Next week on Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 29: "The Abare Quick-Changing New Combination" (アバレ七変化で新合体) The full-blown Abaranger tribute.
