Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0
Today, Hasbro revealed their new Sky Striker, which is now a 1 seater($29.99), and more stuff for their GI Joe 30th Anniversary Line. 30 for 30 plan, 30 of the best GI Joe toys will be released in the line. I guess the new Sky Striker counts as 1. David Hingtgen
New "iconic" Storm Shadow is neat. Skystriker engines--weird. My money's on the guy just went to images.google.com and typed in "F-14", and didn't realize that F-14D engines won't work for an F-14A mold, but tried to scribe them in anyways. I would not be surprised if that was the case. I'm actually surprised that the weapon attachment points remain the same. What I'm ITCHING to find out is if the wings and landing gear are still interconnected. Aside from my aforementioned comments I'm really happy that we are finally getting the Sky Striker. Honestly, I didn't think we were going to see much at Toy Fair. I'm glad I was wrong. Maybe the canopy could have been changed too...if Ace were to eject with that thing still on, I'm sure hitting the frame would hurt pretty bad. Of course I'm buying more than 1. Gonna customize at least 1. SHOCKED to see that the MSRP is $29.99. I KNEW there'd be a Nitpick on the fighter, I just had to come here :)I cant WAIT for the SS, Its like a toy grail for me! Haha. Gaijin
The Sky Striker was my favorite GI Joe toy as a kid. Then was the WHALE, then the Dragonfly. Ahhhh, youth.
Mog
I have no idea where I'd put that Sky Striker. But I SO want one! Especially at that price?! HELL YEAH! I'm not feeling that helmet they're using for Ace, but at least he's got the olive-drab flightsuit of a fighter pilot now. I'll probably just use the helmet from the custom Ace I made awhile back. Also glad the rumors about them making a Crazy Legs were true. But I still prefer my custom more. Would have prefered a Blowtorch with a more military/subdued color scheme (just to differentiate it more from the one that was released awhile back). The Techno Viper looks interesting, but I think a lot of customizers have made some better looking versions. I guess they had to milk that Croc Master mold! Camo-wearing BAT is pretty cool-looking. And is that a Steel Brigade figure I see there? Edited February 13, 2011 by Mog

Uxi
Will almost assuredly get that Sky Striker. Kinda wish they would do an F-35 based new fighter. Always wished they would redo the Flagg. Do the base carrier for a set price and then add-on sets (fuel/ammo vehicles, voice system, etc) to bring down the one-time cost. Think of some of the cool and realistic add-ons, they could do. Phalanx CIWS, Aegis systems. Crew, pilot, aircrew, Marine figure packs. Say $199 for the base carrier. $19.99 for the add-ons and figure packs. Get GI Joe in on some of the big sets that Star Wars has had with the BMF, AT-AT, and AT-TE. That Black Dragon is big in the show IIRC. The toy makes it look like a futuristic FANG II, which I can dig. Would have preferred if it was named FANG III in lieu of Black Dragon. where the heck are people finding pursuit of cobra figures in stores? all i see everywhere are shelfwarmers of destro and maybe a few snake eyes. Target for me. They have endcap displays for wave 3. Will almost assuredly get that Sky Striker. Kinda wish they would do an F-35 based new fighter.Always wished they would redo the Flagg. Interestingly enough, the designation for the new Skystriker is not XP-14F like the old one, but is now XP-21F. Looks more like an F-14A than Tomcat 21 though. myk
Thanks for posting that up Shin. So uh....Anyone want my trio of original SkyStrikers? Lol. This is great news. All of those subtle changes and at that price make it a toy that I'll have to step out of collecting retirement for. Oh, and if they ever did the Defiant I could retire my original finally. As for the FLAGG, I never understood the draw to that thing. I mean, it isn't even a whole vehicle/playset-it's a cutaway. That never sat well with me, but to each their own... Chronocidal
This is the first thing I read this morning, and it's already made my week. At $30 (holy cow!) I might have to get more than one of the new Skystrikers, but I am kind of sad they changed it to a one seater (at least on the normal release... the Starscream version looks like it has the original cockpit ). The wings definitely do look reinforced, but I'm confused as to why.. the original wings were one large piece, and it looks like these have a break near the root. I don't know what the original assembly was like, but it looks like they've tried to change things by having the wings snap on without opening the fuselage up. Makes me glad I held onto all those missiles from the "Flying Fighters" series from years ago.. I've got a nice stash of semi-accurate missiles and bombs to load my Joe planes up with. I just hope they let us put the stickers on ourselves. Now, go and re-release the original Night Raven and Hurricane! I just hope they let us put the stickers on ourselves. Now, go and re-release the original Night Raven and Hurricane! The Skystriker in the panel slides also showed 2 seats, I think that and the Starscream image were just placeholder images, like quick repaints of vintage samples to give an idea of what the paint masks will look like, and not indicative of the final product. The wings may have been reinforced and made detachable for possible parts swap for later releases. I don't know if Hasbro would go that for but I'm just openly speculating. Look at how the 25th Ghost HAWK and POC Ghost HAWK differ, same body, all swappable parts from the 25th one were swapped for new ones with the POC version. The Flying Fighters missles were too small for the Sky Striker! They look like training missles on it, haha. Stickers, yea we'll probably have to put them on ourselves, Hasbro released the Python Conquest and Tiger Rat like that. As for the Night Raven, original mold is intact. Hurricane? Broken. It was going to be used for JoeCon 2010 as an exclusive but the mold broke. I think a Night Boomer is likely. Being that Hasbro went through the effort to make an all new mold based on the original Sky Striker, and cut new tools for it, I think they are going to repaint it like none other. I don't mind actually.
Chronocidal
Hmm, well I'm mainly concerned about them putting the stickers in the right places. Nothing like getting a plane covered in stickers that all need to be removed/replaced. On the other hand, if the tails really are black, it'll save me some trouble making a VF-84 scheme. Sad to hear about the Hurricane though. I have my old one completely disassembled along with my Crusader shuttle, and the parts are sitting in a big box ready for some restoration someday. Seems the plastic in the toys from that time period either really liked to yellow, or they must have been baked in my parent's garage. The shuttle is a nice even shade of yellow on the exterior (but the scout ship is still pristine from being in the bay), and even the blue plastic on the Hurricane has yellowed and turned greenish. Ah, more than likely, we'll have to put the stickers on ourselves, all of their closed box vehicles from recent years were like that. Sky Striker box is closed in lieu of window. I had the 89 Crusader Shuttle, that thing was awesome. Wanted the Hurricane, never had it though. Seems like the vertical stabilizers on the Sky Striker are molded in black. About time! Always looked better that way.

Chronocidal
Probably closer to 1/32 I think. I've seen some comparison shots to the 1/18 F-14, and it looks about half the size.
Mog
I just hope there's some nice panels and molded detailing on the Sky Striker. I'll have to check, but those might be too small. 1/32 might be best. Hoping Cobrastickers makes some reprostickers based on US Navy squadrons. I just hope there's some nice panels and molded detailing on the Sky Striker. It's time to apply all those customizing skills we learned on our Valks to yet another toy line. Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0
JoeCon 2011 Figure And Vehicle Lineup More JoeCon 2011 Images News Tidbits From JoeCon 2011 - Early Friday - Renegades Panel JoeCon 2011 News And Pics - Friday Afternoon JoeCon 2011 Large Images From The Hasbro Booth GI Joe Sneak Peak Panel At JoeCon 2011 New GI Joe Figures For Late 2011 Early 2012 - JoeCon 2011 I definitely think a Night Boomer is on the way eventually. Storm Shadow comes with swappable parts to make either a Sideshow influenced Storm Shadow or Renegades Storm Shadow. The head sculpt reminds me a LOT of Sigma 6 Storm Shadow's mask from the anime. MSRP for single carded figures has now dropped from $6.99 to $4.99. Sky Striker XP-21F's wings and landing gear are still connected. Will come with different squadron marking stickers so you can customize yours. HOPE these are of great quality. Hate stickers that peel off of the toy easily. Black Dragon VTOL looks remotely like its onscreen counterpart. The onscreen version is HUGE. Toy is small. Nonetheless, there are many differences beyond that, the canopies are different, I see the toy more as an escort fighter if anything. Reminds me of a modernized FANG II. I like it actually. Mog
I'm starting to notice more the disproportions between the cockpit and the rest of the plane. And I'm not a big fan of having the landing gears drop when the wings get swept forward. But I'm still looking forward to getting this Sky Striker!! I'm gonna have to decorate the nursery for my upcoming son anyways! Might even pull my old Phantom X-19 out of mothballs and hang it up in the room too. So what if the kid's still in the womb? I gotta start "influencing" him early! Regarding the rest of the figures, I'm glad they're getting back to more of a collector's focus and also releasing figures under the Renegades banner. I just hope they don't make the same mistake and halt all these lines once the inevitable GI Joe 2 movie comes out.

Mog
See, I told you. All this talk about the Sky Striker really did make me bust this old bird out of mothballs : A couple of parts had fallen off over the years (nephews getting their hands on it and neglect while she stayed at my parents' house). But once I found all the parts lying around, it was pretty easy to put back together again. Practically 100% complete, except the front landing gear is slightly damaged (functional, but have to go easy with it). Got the itch to make an updated/custom 25th/Modern Era Ghostrider to go with the X-19 too! Looking forward to hanging this and the Sky Striker up on the nursery ceiling.
