A new french edition of the manga was announced.

That's great. I hope this opens things up to a release here in the States. I have the previous releases, but would love to see the continuation of the story.

I usually only follow Macross World if it is related to Macross or Megazone.
I am now following this thread.

This release from Volks will be epic!

I'm hopeful for an all-opaque version of this. I like the buster, but not the translucent amber plastic.

I think they were going for this translucent look from the movie.
Heck, I love the KOG so much I signed up for Volk's GL or whatever it's called so I can get one of each ^_^
Just hope no issues getting them shipped to the USA.

I've never seen Five Star Stories or L-Gaim, but I've always found the mecha designs  from those series to be some of the most visually appealing within the genre. I've always been particularly fascinated by the Jagd Mirage for all the intricate structures and the fragile look of it. I wouldn't doubt that Hideaki Anno took some notes from this and similar Mortar Heads when designing the Evas.

I'm not so sure if this Jagd Mirage was posted before. There's a Normal or Chrome version pre-painted and pre-assembled by Core Cast for preorder at Gundamit.

I am curious what the Jagd Mirage will look like with the GTM treatment. So far I've hated almost all the redesigns. But, the base green monster is already very anorexic for FSS, matching the newer GTM styling que's.

That Mirage is very impressive, but well out of my price range. I'm guessing the various bits are held on with magnets?  The way he took the foot and head off and just put them back into place one-handed with no pushing to seat them on a ball joint leads me to think so.  Very cool; appreciate the post, @no3Ljm.

I have had a few FSS kits in work. one is the Wave boomerang/napalm combo LED mirage kit and a newer IMS KOG. Also slowly working on a V3 LED Mirage with napalm unit. The KOG still needs line and detail work done.

That looks awesome! :good: Seriously, this series deserves to have some Metal Build / Metal Robot Damashii line. I don't mind getting a couple since I don't have time to build and paint. ;)

I am trying to approach this great manga/anime. I think i will be able to get all the tankobon released so far in my own language. My understanding is that there also two movies out there, one from the 90s and the other one more recent. Is there any way i can see these movies in english language(even with subtitles would be great)? I always found this opera very fascinating but apparently not so easy to have access to outside japan. Thank you.

The 90’s film was on YouTube a while back, not sure if it’s still there. You may try amazon for it as well but I think the official one was only vhs. I don’t know if the Japanese released it with subtitles or not

There was a Japanese DVD release for the 1989 film that had English subtitles and apparently ADV did a domestic release in 2005. I have the Japanese one, the subtitles were fine. Checking prices for the DVDs, the Japanese and American releases seem to run at least $75; there's a bunch of Korean copies on ebay for about 8 bucks, but I have no idea if those are legit or not. There was apparently a 2009 Japanese blu-ray as well, but the prices I saw were absurd.

As far as I know, there's no real way to see Gothicmade unless you live in Japan and can make it to one of its occasional limited theatrical runs.

After few days of search I was able to watch the movie from the 80s and i was blown away! It is fantastic! I would consider it one of the pinnacles of Japanase animation, at least from the techinical point of view. Too bad it's not very long. Anyway,  70 mins were more than enough to fall in love with the characters, the universe, the mechas...so brilliant under so many point of views. Thank you for all your suggestion!

Also, i was considering buying some of the 1/100 model kits. How tall are they? I couldn't find any specific details around the web.

Depending on which one you buy they are slightly taller than the average gundam kit.  The Bang Doll has excessively tall ornamentation on the head and that’s one thing to keep in mind. There are some space consuming parts on some of them. The flame launcher with the Led Mirrage is pretty long. Make sure to have space for them. I’d also recommend buying a newer kit over the first few. The first few had minor fit issues that require some putty and a bit more work than the ones that came out later.

Thank you! It was hard to tell from the pictures but what you say makes a lot of sense now. How difficult they are to assemble compared to a regular bandai MG kit?

The difficulty isn’t too bad, but the modern mg kits are totally easy mode as far as kits go. These you often have as somewhat simple frame, maybe a bit of seam work in the frame as well as outer armor. You may have more work with painting since the frame will often be under armor parts that also need seam line work, so more masking than the average mg kit. Some kits have thin fragile parts, so figuring out a stand is something to consider as well
