  1. 1. So will it be any good?

    • New creative team. It will be awesome. Yo Joe!

    • It's going to suck. It'll probably still star Capt. Grid-Iron and the Eco Warriors--in black!

    • But I liked Capt. Grid-Iron and the Eco Warriors. And black goes well with everything. Bring Sommers back!

Well, it passed the $11 million mark in 2 days. Guess it was good enough. At the same time, I think people didn't expect much anyways and just went there for some mindless action.

Saw it earlier tonight. I noticed that many scenes feature in the trailer doesn't even appear in the film. There's also a scene (shown in bts reel) of all the Joes trading shots with Cobra on the helicopter.

I just saw it... there's cheesy, and then there is just plain stupid and that is what this film is. Its not as bad as the first, but its still bad. Yes ninja scenes were good and very entertaining, but everything else is meh to WTF?!

Lol. I would read your reviews anyday...

So was the amazing 3D they held it back for worth the wait?

My impression of the new film:

Separately, the different acts and action sequences were decent and a dream come true for G I Joe fans. However, once connected together, the whole movie does not flow well and feels choppy at times.

Regarding 3D, don't think it's worthwhile. The operation in Pakistan especially felt like a blurry mess. The only redeeming part was the moutain side ninja battle, which was very well done.

Also, I usually don't have much expectation on character development in an action flick, but I believe Jon Chu can still do better here. Can't help comparing Retaliation to Fast 5, which also features Dwayne Johnson as a military badass out to avenge his fallen comrades. Even though Johnson had a smaller role and less screen time in Fast 5, his character actually got more depth and left a stronger impression. I would love to see an angrier Roadblock. Jon Chu can also learn from Fast 5 on how to build better momentum.

Overall, I gave the movie a B+ for good efforts.

Oh, to those who are wondering whether they added a lot more "Channing Tatum" after the nine month delay to help boost ticket sales, the only re-shoot they did was the video game scene. So I believe the answer is a little bit. In fact, I think they probably edited more scenes out than in. Just compare the various trailers to the movie itself and you will know what I mean.

Everyone watches these movies just for Snake eyes and Storm Shadow. I know I do lol :p Its just one of those movies where you HAVE to turn your brain off and just sit back for some dumb fun. its decent, better then the first. Id give it a solid B.

Also,Cobra Commander can strut like no other.

Is there decent vehicle porn in it? I'm all about the vehicles. My parents would buy me a GI Joe vehicle when I was younger, I'd toss out the driver and sleep with the vehicle...

Not really. We got the explodabike that's seen in the trailer, and a short tank battle that jumpcuts so much you can barely tell what's going on.

No Sky Striker/MOBAT/HISS/Mauler/Rattler/Night Raven/Ghost Striker/ Mamba/Pac Rat action?

FAIL

In fairness, they did have three HiSS tanks in that vehicle battle. And there were a couple of small boats/hovercrafts going at it too.

Also, there was the Rattler-looking dropships the Joes used near the beginning and the Cobra-sponsored helicopters (Apaches?) that proved the importance of air superiority in an attack.

And if all else fails, just remember myk: Ninja vs. Ninja/Commando throw-down.

It's hard to have vehicle porn with the fight being so incredibly one sided though.

You mean in the movie or my example, lol...

Ah yes, the ninjas, lol...

They also had the Awe Strker, but it didn't do much. Not to mention it was kind of weird to see it running in the Himalayas rather than the desert.

It was an entertaining movie with a ton of things that didn't make sense.

I think the weakest part of the movie was the whole Ninja story. President Zartan plotting stuff with Cobra and The Rock & Wonder Woman on the run was good stuff. But the Ninja story. It was weak, didn't feel like it belong with the rest. Would have been better if the Ninjas were in their own separate movie or instead of using the Red Ninja temple and Ninja court they should had Snake Eyes and Jinx just follow them to a Cobra Base after the prison breakout and confront Storm Shadow there.

I just got back from seeing it. Loved it, one of the best movies I've ever seen, even better than the first. Stop fooling around and go watch it if you have any enjoyment from gun fights or military based movies.

On a semi-related note, I find it amazing that there has not been a single movie this year I have not given a perfect 10/10, 2013 must be one epic year for movies. B))

Just saw it, it was ok. Not something I would buy on DVD or blu ray but if you don't want to spend the $10 at the theater this is best as a rental/redbox.

Just if you seen the film or even just the trailer you know it's basically a 4/5 man Joe team. Kind of hard to have full on vehicle battles when you don't have enough people to man the vehicles.

Yeah... it really defeats the purpose of having a big budget hollywood version of a toy cartoon when they reduce it to a low budget pared down version. What it really looked like was a Fast and Furious movie in camo vs. guys in suits. Kudos to Lee Byung-hun and Ray Stevenson for putting in otherwise good performances to a 2 hour Nickeldeon movie. Even, my boy Walter Goggins knew well enough to just phone it in. Better than the first but not much of a Step Up.

After over-doing it in the last wanna-be Joe film, I didn't mind that they pared it down and made the action a little more nitty and gritty in Retaliation.

Joe's shooting ish, getting up close and personal with the enemies, and doing coordinated military attacks: I can live with this stuff.

Granted, it'd be nice to see an all-out battle between Cobra and the Joes with their signature vehicles, but I don't want them to go overboard with a CGI glutton-fest.

BTW, is Hasbro gonna releash a Lady Jaye three-pack (covert workout get-up, red dress, post-red dress outfit)?

Well, considering the movie is showing at the same time, most of my paycheck is already spent, once DD drops tonight... meh, indeed. (the good thing is, my future stepson isnt asking me about it LOL)

Well, I guess people wanted mindless entertainment this time of the year.

Weekend # (Fri-Sun): $41.2 million domestic, $132 million globally.

I'm watching G.I. Joe the movie cartoon now. It's better than Rise of Cobra and I'm 100% sure better than this sequel too. I heard spoilers about this one when it was delayed last year. I'll only watch this for free when it shows up on cable.

Did Lady Jaye show the epic cleavage that she so proudly displayed in the 80's cartoons?

I read a funny review on Aint it Cool about Lady Jaye in this movie. But they didn't even get her hair right so I'm not expecting much.

I think it's probably good for kids. My nephews loved it. I'm sure equally minded people loved it too. :p

No.

I'm a fairly huge Joe fan. But the cartoon film was crappy other than the opening. The whole Cobra la thing was where they went too far. The comic stayed realistic as possible...don't know why the cartoon became some Master of the Universe fantasy type show with the film.

Retaliation was a great action film.

I wish they would make a sequel to Resolute.

Indeed,certianly is open to one.

Seems Paramount have given the green light to a 3rd Joe film in the series now. So get ready for more lol. Hopefully with more Cobra Commander.

Meh, I don't want it after Flint anyway...

I wouldn't mind a follow-up animation series to either Resolute or Renegades.

And I'm calling it now: the third GI Joe live-action movie is gonna be called GI Joe: Reloaded.

It seems like all the recent Joe stuff's been subtitled with words starting with R.
