"Planzet" -- Anyone seen this?

So, I was in the rental store earlier today looking around and I found a CG movie called "Planzet" which apparently had one of those theatrical releases which goes unnoticed. It seemed to be a cheap Asylum-type affair, but I spotted an interesting looking robot which reminded me of Kawamori's White Glint from Armored Core. The CG characters look good, too.

I didn't rent it, instead opting for some Lupin III

But I did do a bit of searching for more info, and found these trailers/clips:

The director is Jun Awazu, who also made this Showa-style short movie thing which also went by unnoticed:

Has anyone seen it or heard of it? I might check it out.

ANBU released a fansub of this movie back in the beginning of October at least: that's when I got it but I never could find the time to check it out.

Seeing your post reminded me I had it, so I've just watched it.

That's 53 minutes of my life that I'll never get back

It was one of the worst things I've ever seen. It appeared to be a rip off of Independence Day with a bit of magic fairy weirdness thrown in to confuse the issue. The mecha action was OK but was all of about 5 minutes and couldn't save the rest of the show.

Do yourself a favour and don't waste your money.

It can't be worse than the last airbender. That's 103 minutes and the several hours spent being angry that you will never get back.
