Good, FINALLY we get a movie with giant robots other than transformers!

They aren't that big but at least it's something (I don't expect a masterpiece, just some robo-porn). Damn Transformers made a fortune years ago and Hollywood has yet to do their usual copies.

Hmmmm... This is something my kids would really like if it wasn't PG-13. Execs in Hollywood think a PG movie aimed at boys is too risky so they add PG-13 elements so that the rating brings in an older crowd, but people know a kids movie when they see it :p They did the same thing with Speed Racer. That one would have been a perfect kids movie if it wasn't for the cussing that was added just to make it PG-13.

Looks a whole lot better than robot jox.

Waste of Hugh Jackman. I want another Wolverine movie.

Protip: Your kids already know every curse word, that girls have "boobies," and what "the bird" is, go see movies.

I just found out that this movie is loosely based on a short story simply titled Steel by Richard Matheson, which was written in 1956. The story was first adapted in episode 122 of The Twilight Zone in 1963. Elements of that episode were referenced in episode 322 - "I, (Annoyed Grunt)-Bot" - of The Simpsons.

If it is the episode I'm thinking about, its plot was fairly different than the one of this movie...

Protip2 - Just because they know about it does not mean I approve of letting them wallow in it.

The kid at the sports game? It should be legal to slap the parents if they did not discipline him. Then again I'm one of those cavemen that think indecent exposure (kids with their underwear showing), public cursing, and public intoxication should be finable offenses.

This could be a winner if they apply the Johnny 5 is Alive factor and really add character to the robot. I think I am alone in saying this will be a hit.

It has a boxing element which always does well in terms of making the audience root for the under dog. It has a solid script unlike anything Bay did. At least Adam looks like a robot instead of a magnetic insect and probably wont have balls, pee on anyone or start humping someones leg. And I like the

Block y look, it too has its purpose.

Nah, just public smoking.

Agree with slaginpit.

This is mainstream audience marketing that isn't relying on pre-branded/toy 'tie-in', name recognizability like TFs. Thinking outside the box of hardcore SF enthusiastes and connisseurs of 'anime mecha' fine art aesthetic, its story driven and the hardware is just props & settings.

American family audiences regard H. Jackman as likeable to 30's-40's parents, single, working mom 'heart-throb', hero actor who does more drama than action & adventure. I see it as another way entertainment execs aim to boost struggling, down & out American middleclass to keep thinking hard on innovative tech, alternative energy and particularly robotics. Of course, spending movie dollars in the process...

The same, popular view of robotics and technological future possibilities that primed 60'-generation, Japanese salary & labor class people to dream of Astro Boy, Ultraman and eventually MS Gundam and Star Blazers. So, the current, nascent US citizen can complain less that "they Dun took ur jobz!" and spend more time geeking in the garage over electric vehicles, biodiesel, and hacking consumer electronics into new devices.

Please forgive the socio-politics; I'm a big proponent of hack-labs, Maker Fairs and home & community scaled alternative energy/utility production. All practical application derivatives of scale modelling and scratch building.

The thing is, the kid in that pic is a Red Sox fan, and they're all bottom feeders anyway... :p

I saw it today...and loved it...I call it the Robot Rocky.

MUCH better than Bay's Rack em Suck em Robots.

It's done very well at the box office. I took two of my girls to see it (8&10) and they enjoyed it. It very cliched, but okay entertainment.

Saw this movie earlier tonight, and it's a lot better than I expected, even though it's more of a kids' movie than advertised. I expected a hack job on the fight scenes, but they were very well choreographed; after seeing Sugar Ray Leonard's name on the credits as boxing adviser, now I know why.

BTW, that Ambush figure looks nice, but I want to see Noisy Boy and Zeus figures.
