Dengeki Hobby 2011.11 issue is out.

This issue features, surprise surprise, a VF-11D and VF-0 Kai!

VF-0 Kai "Zeak": Hakuna Aoba's new ride. Beyond being equipped with the VF-25's stage II thermonuclear reaction engines and energy conversion armour, it's also got the VF-25's wings! They even fold up the same! The head looks more reminiscent of the VF-25A crossed with the VF-25F's than the VF-0A's...

VF-11D Thunder Focus: Rose Guryunesilt and "D" Aivori's ride. Me thinks it's part of the race monitoring communications/recording team, as it's got a GCU-M3 Kai camera pod in place of a gun pod.

Macross the Forefront features:

the VF-11B two-seater Macross the Ride edition VF-11D.

Maybe because subconsciously, he wants to modify his old planes so that he always crash-burns at the end????? Can't do that with newer, more expensive planes....

Might be an adrenaline junkie as well, beside passion for extreme modification.

And here i thought nothing could get any crazier than his VF-1X++, VF-0 with VF-25 engine is just insane.

Does that mean he is using ISC?

I think it has to do with Hakuna's bio - I think I remember translating somewhere that he's part cyborg and doesn't want to rely on any of the newer craft that use BDI type interfaces to bypass traditional flying skills (of course, I might be confusing him with another character ... as I can't find any indication of this in the translations that I've posted...)

Anyhow, maybe it's just his image (said from an out-of-universe viewpoint)? VF-1/VF-0 are basically the same airframe after all.

I'd they're the same design more or less but not the same airframe. Like all the parts are different shapes and sizes. Same airframe would imply something like the F-9 Cougar and F9F Panther.

Unless the official descriptions say same airframe but that's more an error on the original text I suppose.

It looks like so far (VF-9 excepted), they've been sticking with modding models aren't made like the entire Hasegawa lineup, or making new ones like the VF-11D. Only the one scratch-build so far.

Trust me, I would /love/ to see an SW-XA1...

I wanna see a suped up VA-3, perhaps with engines as arms for extra speed, or a custom fast pack to go with it.

It looks pretty awesome.

According to dengeki website, the engine is the same as YF-25, as well as the power output.

Still wondering how Aoba can survive riding this thing.

Perhaps that much power can only be used in certain condition? like a straight line, or one time only, and then boom.

Wild guessing.

Well, at a first glance, you'd think that with that additional boost power, that it would be impossible for him to be able to take the g-forces without an ISC and/or EX-gear. However, we have to consider that fighter performance is going to be severely limited by the resistance of an atmosphere.
