Mr March Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 I found an old model , and started to "fix" , I looked all my references and can't find any good info on landning gear - if you have info please post -- still improving shape ...so lots to do on this one I haven't seen any YF-19 landing gear pictures except for this one, but I remember someone once said it was an unofficial drawing. I'm not even sure where this picture comes from. It could very well be fan-made for all I know. But that's all I got. Quote
frothymug Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 That's pretty close, but the front gear is just a tad bit in front of where it shows on that fan drawing. You can catch its position in Ep 2 during the testing montage when Isamu is taxiing in front of the YF-21's hangar. Quote
Rodavan Posted October 21, 2010 Author Posted October 21, 2010 Mr March - thx will use that for front , the back landing gear is still a bit of mistery except for front views I have seen frothymug - Only seen movie , will see if I can find ep2 Maybe I should ask our modelkit guys if they can take a photo of landing gear of a Hasegawa YF 19 model kit ? Quote
SeminNV Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 well guys common, use a bit of imagination. Pick up any landing gear design like from american YF-22 or russian SU-47. I am pretty sure in this "reference" the artist did the same thing. Quote
THOR Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Rodavan, what software are you using? i could take pics of my 1/48 hasegawa. i could also draw the landing gear in 3d in solidworks.... -THOR Quote
Rodavan Posted October 22, 2010 Author Posted October 22, 2010 THOR - Thx I use SolidEdge and Rhino , if you just post pics will also be great SeminNv - yes that was the plan , if I didn't get replies Quote
Talos Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 You know, Rodavan, there is landing gear line art for the second-generation VF-19s....you can always use that as a basis. http://www.macross2.net/m3/macross7/vf-19custom/vf-19custom-fighter-landinggear.gif Also, there should be stuff in VF-19 Master File. I will look at my copy when I get home. Quote
Mr March Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 (edited) Using the VF-19 Custom as a template isn't a bad idea, but the front landing gear is slightly different on the prototype. I've scanned a picture from the TIAS book and I'll attach it here. Edited October 22, 2010 by Mr March Quote
Talos Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Well, I checked, Rodavan, and there IS some detail on the landing gear for the YF-19/VF-19A in it. I didn't get a chance to scan it, but I will tomorrow afternoon. Quote
Rodavan Posted October 25, 2010 Author Posted October 25, 2010 (edited) Mr March - Thx Talos - thx I can use the image of the back landing gear , I also got some images of F18 landing gear ... very similar some update - "body shape, wings and leg area re-done sofar Edited October 25, 2010 by Rodavan Quote
Talos Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Sorry about the delay, Rodavan, but I hope this helps! Quote
Mr March Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Great work Talos! The pictures look excellent. Definitely looks like the artists for thew VF-19 book properly researched the gear. They look very close to the screen shot I posted. Quote
Talos Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Definitely! That's the sort of thing that stood out for me in the Master File. Overall, it's well done. There's some small quibbles of course, but nothing's perfect. As an example of coolness, they named and described all the weapons on the cover of This is Animation Special: Macross Plus... Quote
Rodavan Posted October 26, 2010 Author Posted October 26, 2010 Talos - thx great find ! just what I needed ...... Quote
Talos Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Glad you like it. Can't wait to see what you do with the landing gear on your model. Quote
Chronocidal Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Sheesh, why wasn't that book around when I made my old flight sim model? Funny though, I don't think those main gear even resemble the anime. They look decently designed, but I don't think the gear originally had that F-18 style bend. I had a newer set worked out for an updated flight sim version in Gmax once, but that was for MS Combat Sim 3, which uses Gmax only, and I never made a 3DS Max version. Quote
Doktor Gonzo Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Looking forward to this, Rod.... any updates? Quote
Rodavan Posted November 14, 2010 Author Posted November 14, 2010 Looking forward to this, Rod.... any updates? Done some small changes , will not show on images , but real life is a bit "heavy" at year end Quote

Rodavan Posted January 3, 2011 Author Posted January 3, 2011 (edited) maxi - Sorry .. I don't give out unclomplete models , you can ask Chronocidal , he gave me a very good model to look @ a few years ago , if he agrees I will give you a copy of his YF-19 which is on the best I have seen. Tried the combination that Talos had in drawings he supplied , it still needs some detail , but we will get there ...I hope Edited January 3, 2011 by Rodavan Quote

Oh, how I wish I could 3d model like that! Quote
Chronocidal Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Oh please feel free to pass that model around, I've found it all over the net in various forms over the years. Just be warned, that one is 100% Hasegawa based. It's a nice aircraft model, but you will have serious trouble if you try to transform it. It's also fairly low poly for this day and age. I've got an in progress update to it, but it's been on my virtual shelf for a couple years now with no progress. It's meant to be for FSX, but I kind of fell away from my modeling hobby near the end of college. I really should pick it back up again. That leg looks incredible by the way. Quote
Graham Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 I haven't seen any YF-19 landing gear pictures except for this one, but I remember someone once said it was an unofficial drawing. I'm not even sure where this picture comes from. It could very well be fan-made for all I know. But that's all I got. FYI, that pic comes from either the box of the Bandai 1/100 VF-19Kai or Bandai 1/100 VF-19S plamodel kits from 1995 (I forget which). It is printed on the inside of the box. At the time it lead a great many people into thinking that Bandai was going to release a YF-19 model kit. Graham Quote
Mr March Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Guess that makes it somewhat official. Thanks Graham Quote

Rodavan Posted February 6, 2011 Author Posted February 6, 2011 Chthonic - depends on software and type modeling nurbs vs poly Some progress - going slow , but going forward .... Quote
Talos Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Looking good, Rodavan. Keep up the great work. I like how the Master File panel lines on the nose came out. If there's anything else you need scanned out of there, let me know. Quote
