Maiden Japan Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 (edited) OK, this is going to be my little after work project. Hopefully I can finish it by MWCon. I don't know if this is already done before, but I just want VF-171 next to my VF-25 toy. I'm not caring too much about correct proportion, or detail accuracy. I'm just going to do a quick conversion to make somewhat look-like VF-171. I already cut some portion of wing and fins. I also cut shortened shoulder armor. Later I'm going to extend nose and wind shield. Edited August 26, 2010 by Maiden Japan Quote
nightmareB4macross Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 That looks like a great start. Will this be transformable once the project is completed? Quote
valhary Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 i dont know the scale but maybe the astro plan toys can help you Quote
Maiden Japan Posted August 26, 2010 Author Posted August 26, 2010 Astro Plan Thanks, but no thank you. I can do my own sculpt. Quote
GGemini Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Good start! looking forward to the final product Quote
Graham Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Will be watching this project with great interest. Good start so far. Graham Quote
ae_productions Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 I don't remember seeing the VF-171. Was it in Frontier? It's pretty cool looking. Off subject, has any of you ever gone to the Macross Con before? What are your honest opinions? My wife and I are talking about going back to California to visit. If the timing is right...But living in Florida now...Cali's a long way away. Back on subject... Good luck with the custom! Can't wait to see how it turns out. Quote
Maiden Japan Posted August 27, 2010 Author Posted August 27, 2010 (edited) VF-171 is from Frontier series. It is basically an upgrade from VF-17, and has almost the same transformation. Only difference is that nose breaks in the middle, and folds back in battroid mode. As for MWCon, I strongly suggest that you attend to this event. It is going to be the biggest Macross party ever. When you do this custom, are you going to have your 17 transform the same way as the 171? That will be very hard to pull off. But I bet it's going to ROCK! Can't wait to see what you do with this! And thanks for the heads up with Macross Con. Don't know if it will turn out that we go at the same time, but I am secretly planting hints with the wife to make it work out that way! Ha ha! Quote
Graham Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Looking good. I think the VF-171 canopy and longer nose are going to be the most difficult part to do of this custom. Graham Quote
Fly4victory Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 I have been wondering when someone would do this. Looks great. Hope it gets Bandai's interest for a 1/60 version. Quote
Maiden Japan Posted September 22, 2010 Author Posted September 22, 2010 I'm back now for more updates. I extended and resculpted cockpit and nose. I had to see Experten's VF-171 model to study the detail and how it works. I also modified the head for my original style. Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Great work so far man, itching to see it. What are you sculpting the new parts out of? Quote
Maiden Japan Posted September 22, 2010 Author Posted September 22, 2010 Great work so far man, itching to see it. What are you sculpting the new parts out of? I mainly use Bondo putty ( automotive body filler ) and stylene sheets. Very basic stuffs. Quote
Maiden Japan Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Two more days till MWCon! I just finished adding nose. Hopefully I can bring this one painted before the con. Quote

Maiden Japan Posted November 11, 2010 Author Posted November 11, 2010 (edited) Sorry no updates yet. I want to reshape the nosecone piece. I rushed the sculpt but I'm not happy with the shape. And I want to resculpt the head also. Edited November 11, 2010 by Maiden Japan Quote
Frogze Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Fantastic custom, sir The nosecone looked already great to me, can't wait to see your upgraded one. Did you put a magnet in the nosecone like Yamato did on the SV-51 or is it held by friction? Quote
Maiden Japan Posted November 20, 2010 Author Posted November 20, 2010 Nose cone is held by friction, but I should use small magnet like you said. Quote
mojacko Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 what clay did u use for the nose cone? lookin good there mate. Quote
