ly000001 Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Satoshi Kon Passes Away At first, I thought it was a Twitter hoax until the above article at ANN.
areaseven Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Very sad to hear of his passing. I never saw Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers or Paprika, but I really enjoyed Perfect Blue. R.I.P. Satoshi Kon.
Loop Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Very sad to hear of his passing. I never saw Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers or Paprika, but I really enjoyed Perfect Blue. R.I.P. Satoshi Kon. All of the above titles were really good imho, This is a sad day for fans of his work
Seto Kaiba Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Damn, that's sad news indeed... I really enjoyed his work on Perfect Blue. R.I.P. Satoshi Kon
Mr March Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I just read the news at my film haunts. This is terrible news and is a loss for anime. Kon was one of the few in his industry truly breaking from the norm and producing some groundbreaking productions much like Mamoru Oshii did for his generation and Hayao Miyazaki for the generation before that. Anime has truly lost a vital voice with Kon's passing.
Gubaba Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I got to see Paprika in the theater, and visually, it blew me away. R.I.P.
Graham Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 R.I.P. Only seen Perfect Blue and own the DVD. Great movie. Have to make an effort to see his other movies. Graham
BeyondTheGrave Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Very sad to hear of his passing. I never saw Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers or Paprika, but I really enjoyed Perfect Blue. R.I.P. Satoshi Kon. Without him Inception may never have been made.
todd77 Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 A sad day indeed. I really enjoyed his films. I wonder how his latest work will do now that he's gone Anyway, R.I.P.
Gui Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I have never been really fond of Perfect Blue, but I really liked all of his other productions – particularly Paranoia Agent Too bad the anime industry lost such a greatly talented director...
sketchley Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 R.I.P. Only seen Perfect Blue and own the DVD. Great movie. Have to make an effort to see his other movies. Graham Try and see the Magnetic Rose section of Memories (the whole movie, is great).
Renato Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I just got an email about this. I'm as angry about this as I am sad. He was only 46! I loved Tokyo Godfathers. The man's movies were perfect for showing people uninterested in animation that the medium had so many possibilities. And his manga work with Katsuhiro Otomo is worth checking out too. RIP. You were one of the people I was counting on to pull anime out of the mire (I believe) it's in. This is a major blow to creativity. Alas, you will be missed.
The Shade Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Saw the news this morning and thought I was still asleep. Quickly checked out ANN and they confirmed it. R.I.P. I liked all of your movies and this really is a sad for anime fans everywhere.
Keith Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 A friend just sent me a link to a translation of Kon's final words, Apparently it was pancreatic cancer, and he only had a few months after finding out. http://www.makikoitoh.com/journal/satoshi-kons-last-words
Mr March Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Wow, it really was a stream of consciousness like a philosophy text. Very poignant and sad. I'm so sorry for the way in which he died. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
Chindenathus Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 What a shame. I thought "Paranoia Agent" was unusually brilliant and a fine counterpoint to FLCL. Satoshi Kon, may you find the joys in the hereafter that evaded you in the world of the living.
wolfx Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 A friend just sent me a link to a translation of Kon's final words, Apparently it was pancreatic cancer, and he only had a few months after finding out. http://www.makikoitoh.com/journal/satoshi-kons-last-words That was a very moving letter. Thanks for sharing. May he rest in peace. His works will continue to inspire us, left behind.
Scream Man Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 I just started rewatching Paranoia Agent after hearing this. Wonderful and creative series, truly one of the best mind-fart animes i can think of. Bravo once again sir.
505thAirborne Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Perfect Blue is one of my Favorites. Safe journey Satoshi Kon, R.I.P.
