Hello everyone! I have been lurking through some threads about the second Macross movie looking for one specific spoiler :D To those who have seen it, please answer me this:

Well, I'm flying tomorrow to Tokyo. Hopefully I'll be able to catch the film at wald9 on sunday (I think I may be too tired on saturday) - for the first time, heh :)

(of course I won't be satisfied with one viewing!)

Thanks guys for the help. For now I'm off the forums for some days ;)

The film is absolutely amazing - it smoothens out whatever flaws the original had and completely blew my mind, despite the spoilers I had unfortunately encountered. If I hadn't...well damn. Just how powerful experience it would've then been...

Anyway, that the film has blown my mind three times in a row and that I want to watch it again by the time credits roll tells that Kawamori did something right here. Seeing this in theatre was worth the price

Hopefully I get to see the film one last time tomorrow before I must fly back to Finland...idea that I don't get to see it again for months and never again on big screen depresses me. Speaking of that, it's pretty much only thing that worries me a bit. I feel like film demands that it's seen on big screen. Sayonara is one of those flicks...

And the soundtrack is freakin' amazing and no, you won't get its power without seeing the film... that they capped Frontier with two of the best songs ever written for the franchise (title track HOLY poo + Hoshikira, dshudistab is fine too) is just icing on the cake. The emotional impact and beauty of Hoshikira gets me every time I hear it, whether in theatre or just listening to OST... I might feel embarrassed about it if there hadn't always been some people crying in the theatre after/during ending credits...

I guess I'll make more elaborate and analytic post sometime later but for now I think that's enough. Bottom line is: the film is well worth watching. It improves on tv series in pretty much every way - and I loved the tv series in the first place. Best Macross film since DYRL.

There are couple of scenes/lines of dialogue I'd like to hear from members more adept in japanese language than I though, just to make sure :)

and this isn't exactly related to the film but just how rare are those new maiko/geisha Ranka and Sheryl Ichiban Kuji figures? I've searched for them in Akihabara and Mandarake at Nakano in vein quite a bit...do you guys have any ideas where I might find them?

Xard - glad you managed to see it! And not once but THREE times?!?! Awesome effort! :-)

Sounds like you enjoyed it - good to hear that I'm not the only person who has seen Japanese audiences get teary towards the end of the film on a consistant basis ;-) I agree that the film really feels best suited to the big screen - it has an almost (and don't take this the wrong way) Michael Bat quality to it - so much happening all at once! And it always seems to go by so fast too - have seen it 6 times myself. I must say that I am really hanging for the bluray though - some of those action scenes are just begging to be slowed down a bit.

As for the soundtrack - YES! This is what I keep trying to explain to people who have heard the soundtrack and feel that its lacking something. This is a case where the music and specific accompanying animated scenes were created together - heck theres even spots with no vocals in one song because thats where characters are talking! Thats why I feel that, while its a weaker album than Universal Bunny, its definately a stronger soundtrack.

Anyways, to answer some of your questions ...

If they are already available the only place you would be able to get them is at larger second hand figure shops - these are 'premium' for a reason though and never get cheap unfortunately. Maybe SAVE has seen some around?

Well, I'm still working on my review of the film etc. so in a sense this is a bit premature bump but I just realized there was one thing I forgot to ask for more details...

but first:

Heh, in the end I managed to see it four times actually. :D

But it's fantastic film so it was definetly worth it every time. I've also really warmed for the soundtrack more I've listened to it during past months and what can I say, it's incredible. Great songs, some among my favourites to come out of Macross ever (title track and Hoshikira are masterpieces), and lots of BGM goodness. F Refrain is a special favourite out of those.

Anyway, going for spoilers now:

This won't be spoilery, since it's what's been covered in both Zero & the Frontier TV series. But I get the impression that Kawamori is leading towards a story where Vajra will eventually become a symbiotic mecha, i.e. a generation of living Valkyries (hopefully not bug like). This would put humanity on par with the tail end of the Protoculture's technology, and also achieve something that the Protoculture were never able to. This potential eventuality seems to have been slowly building up for years. The Space Whale organs that are interchangable with fold engines, the AFOS & EVIL which both biologically recreate all Protoculture technological science, and the DYRL living mobile fortresses.

I just hope whatever happens comes out looking more like the YF-29 & Nirvash Zero, and less like the Escaflowne/ & Vajra.

Interesting and bizarre idea, though I'm not sure if I'd want to see them follow through with it. The symbiotic biomecha part I mean, I don't think Vajra getting turned into VFs is plausible when Frontier makes so much out of NUNS being bunch of imperialistic, warring dickheads in comparison to Vajra. Why would they suddenly approve turning Vajra into war machines

Anyway, interesting idea for sure but doesn't exactly answer my questions (if this was ment to, that is)

Simply put, it wouldn't be NUNS doing it. It would be someone like SMS. Obviously, it would also have to be an evolution that the Vajra agreed to, as opposed to somehow forcably enslaying them.

Oh, sure, it's all fun and games until someone's soul gets sucked into one of the symbiotic mechs. dry.gif

Worst case, Ranka would be working overtime trying to cure pilots of the V-Type :)

I wouldn't give humaity that much credit, particularly if they emulate their progenitors, the PC.

If makind had that much power, no doubt it would corrupt them like it did the PC and plunge the galaxy into another devestating civil war!

In 60 short years mankind has re-discovered much of the technology of the PC age and thus far we've not seen the dark side of the ambition that such power tends to initiate.

That would really suck in my book. Not macross like at all. Valkyries get more love being inanimated but very reliable machines in the macross universe. Pilots are the ones that make them legendary, like Focker/Hikaru and the Skull 001 or (I can't believe I'm saying this) Basara and the Fire valkyrie.

Besides in macross the enemy mechas are always more organic looking and working than the hero or 'good guys' mechas.

It's only not "Macross like" until it is. Humanity is rapidly catching up with PC technology & spreading all over the universe. LIke I siad, it's just a guess, but to me it looks like where Kawamori may be headed.

open your eyes, sir. the numberous mentioned battles, small civil wars mentioned in the past, as well as what has occured during the recent video games (assuming some form of cannonity), not to mention Macross Galaxy's interstellar coop attempt shows that its already happening. what makes me wonder about the future of Macross is that, eventually a civil war will occur, amounst the various colonies of humanity (a good example to think in terms of instellar conflict: Battletech's succession wars fluff.) would they go that direction when they think about storylines (let alone toys for those stories)

The initial point was that humanity would surpass the PC in peaceful use of their ancient technology and I simply countered with the trend that mankind was more likely to repeat those same mistakes.

The old adage still applies, "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely",

That moral is still very strong in the Macross universe.

I actually think Macross has shown that yeah, humanity makes the same mistakes, but adapt better to correcting them than the P.C. did.

I thought the PC was brought down by a external source the Proto Devlin/Devil not internal strife or had they been weakened by Civil War.

The PC successfully sealed away the Protodevelin, "but" in order to fight the PD they had to remove the restraints on the Zentradi that kept them from attacking PC citizens/military. When they tried to demilitarize the Zentradi, it was seen as a threat, and the Zentradi actually polished off the remainder of hte PC.

Man, this is gonna be a hell of a long wait :(

By the way, what's the best/recommended source to buy the latest OST from? I'm in Mexico, so it should be almost the same as buying from the US, in terms of shipping costs.

I remember I got the DYRL? Remastered Memorial Box from Amazon JP, but wonder if that's still the best choice.

Humanity in macross world is always in fragile condition, tends to corrupt easily, especially when people start to forget about song and music, which is an important thing in a long voyage through space.

But as long as they keep on singing, everything will be fine.

Okay that's too much bomba i guess...

How many of you guys have not succumbed to the temptation of spoilers and are completely oblivious as to what happens in the movie? I'm one of them. I am glad they didn't take so long to push it to DVD as the first movie. The good news, for me, is that I will be so busy with school and work, it will seem like no time at all before October 20th comes along. Still.... I kinda can't wait! ;)

I've read a couple of spoilers but I still have no idea what happens haha.. xD Now just gotta wait 3 months for the release then for a subbed version to appear.. :( Unless the dvd will have english subs in it? (I wouldn't be suprised if there wasn't)

I'm avoiding spoilers like the plague, only reason I stopped in now is I saw a release date of October 20th. I'm surprised it is so soon and we know this far in advance. Didn't the first movie get released in November and not anounced till the day before? (I'm joking a bit there of course, it was 2 days in advance...)
