Dash Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 (edited) I found about this in NeoGaf, apparently there is going to be a new game for the PS3 about Macross F only (there are no images of other series in the scans) and packed together with The False Diva Movie and something else, at least that is what i can see in these scans but i don't know japanese so i could be wrong. It would be better if someone can translate the scans. Oh and i think this is the game that appeared earlier: I almost forgot, i think the release date is october 7 so if the BD of the movie comes with the pack that means we have a release date for the movie now right? Is it bad that my first thought on seeing the title "Macross Trial Frontier" was a Macross-themed version of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney? (No joke, it's a bizarre mental image) Still, looks awesome. Shame I don't have a PS3. Quote

Dash Posted July 28, 2010 Author Posted July 28, 2010 More info here: Namco Bandai Bundling PS3 Macross Game With Movie The game and the movie will come in the same Blu-ray disc. I wonder if the game will cover only Frontier and the movie, just the movie or maybe all the Macross series like MUF. Too bad i don't have a PS3 Quote
Graham Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Nice to see missiles on the wings of the non-Super Pack equipped VF-25s. This is what they should have done in the series, given that the VF-25 has no internal missile bays. Still very disappointed that this is not a new PSP game after all. Graham Quote
Black Valkyrie Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Nice, no PS3 here. I hope they release something similar for the upcoming 3DS. Quote

Roy Focker Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 You know that Macross Frontier ain't my favorite Macross but a chance to play any Macross game on the PS3. Guess I'll be buying this. Quote

PS3's are region free for games but region coded for movies. I have a U.S. bought PS3 so i know ill be able to play the game but i dont think ill be able to watch the movie...is this accurate? Quote
bandit29 Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 The US and Japan share the same region (A) for Blu-rays. Quote
Sorata Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 So getting this now to find a spot to order it. Quote
VT 1010 Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 (edited) The US and Japan share the same region (A) for Blu-rays. And for those that aren't, region coding is optional with Blu-ray. And said restrictions are that common either I glad that we're getting a Macross game on the PS3. Finally a big screen and better controls. I hope this has full-fledged HD graphics and isn't one of those PlayStation Mini games. Edited July 29, 2010 by VT 1010 Quote

Graham Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Hmmm........OK, if this is a full game, I might have to start thinking of ways to persuade the wife to let me buy a PS3. I guess if I do get one, I can also buy the new Another Century game, to play some Macross mecha as well. Graham Quote
VT 1010 Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Well if you're still on the fence, the PS3 doesn't just play games; "It only does everything." Quote

Sorata Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Is the PS3 region locked for Blu-Ray movies? Graham I think off my head it is but the US and Japan share both game and movie Regions on Bluray, Region 1, It plays my Japanese Macross Frontier blurays fine Quote

yellowlightman Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Sounds/looks like a limited port of the PSP games, which makes sense as it's just being bundled with the movie and not released as a full fledged game. Quote
Vepariga Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 ^ or it could be a full fledged game with just the movie thrown on it for good measure. Quote
Graham Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Gotta say, looking at the screen shots of Macross Trial Frontier, the graphics don't look quite as polished as say the new Another Century game. Graham Quote

Keith Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Link to new screenshots of the game, originally posted by MWer Bandit29 in the Frontier Movie thread. Macross Trial Frontier Screen Shots Graham Two things to factor in, are that the name "trial frontier" almost certainly denotes an incomplete game, and what's being shown now likelyi isn't even a complete version of that. Quote
Graham Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Yeah, I was also thinking that about the name. As you said, likely to just be an incomplete version, with perhaps just a couple of stages. Graham Quote
Roy Focker Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Find out for sure cause I'll buy this game but I don't really need to see this movie. Quote
sketchley Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Two things to factor in, are that the name "trial frontier" almost certainly denotes an incomplete game, and what's being shown now likelyi isn't even a complete version of that. Could mean that the game is a series of challenges (aka trials) for the character of the game, and not that the game itself is a trial for an as yet to be announced game. One must keep in mind that the Engrish that appears from Japan doesn't always have the same meaning as English that a native speaker uses (or that native speakers from different native speaker countries or even regions of the same country have the same meaning). Bri Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Cool idea but shame it's a PS3 game. No M&K support and regionlocked for DVDs (and BR to a degree), just no Quote
yellowlightman Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 ^ or it could be a full fledged game with just the movie thrown on it for good measure. They wouldn't release a full fledged game with a movie. They'd release them separately to maximize profits. The limited focus on Frontier and the name, really suggests that it's going to be more of a demo of a larger game. New screenshots: http://www.famitsu.com/game/coming/1238105_1407.html Quote
CrazyMartian Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 (edited) OH CRAP!!! I think I almost had a heart attack... Trial... So does that mean the full game is coming later on? Oh, crap, oh, crap, OH CRAP!!! I also didn't know we shared regional coding with Japan (American continent here)... Had I known, I would have bought the whole BDs for Macross Frontier from the beginning! Edited July 31, 2010 by CrazyMartian Quote
Roy Focker Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 It could mean either. Best to wait for more information. Quote
CrazyMartian Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Hmmmmm... Yeah. Since I'm running on limited resources, I think it'd be best to wait and see... I WANT the movie and all, yes, but maybe I'm better off waiting and seeing. Sure, the game portion is sure to be fun, but it'll be basically what I have been playing all this time with MUF. Caution, caution. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Graham, to clarify for region-locking: Hong Kong, Japan, and the USA, are all the same region when it comes to Blu-Rays. A great boon to anime fans. Now, a PS3 will not retroactively allow DVD's from all those different contries to be played on it (DVD region locking is entirely separate), but it will take any game or Blu-Ray movie from them equally. (a further note is that many Blu-Ray movies from the major studios are region-free anyways, and all PS3 games themselves are region-free) In short---having "region-locked" issues are fairly rare for a PS3. 20th Century Fox is notable for region-locking their movies--but again, US/JP/HK are all the same for Blu-Ray.
