EXO Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 But I like the A-Team movie... saw it twice. Too bad I didn't help it's BO by seeing it twice for free... RIP Voltron movie... Quote
Zor Primus Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 To quote Lestat: "There's still life in the old lady yet!!!" New News Not bad except for the fact that the city looks like modern day NY... Quote
one_klump Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Those lions look like ass. Not to be the typical never-satisfied macrossworlder here, but really, they look like ass. Even the CGI zords from the first Power Rangers movie looked better than that. Quote
Jeremy007 Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 that concept art is just awful. if thats how the lions and voltron are going to look in a live action film, i hope it never gets made. that looks like a michael bay voltron. Quote
Zor Primus Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 For concept at least its a start guys...lets not kill it right away...its more then another LAM has shown at least Quote
Gaijin Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Sorta looks Transformers movie-ish. But this is only pitched concept art to the studios. With the success of TF at the box office, I'd probably pitch it that way too, honestly. Doesn't mean you'd have to keep those designs. I actually liked Voltron so I kinda hope this gets made some day. But I'm not naive enough to think it won't be updated for young kids of today. Quote
Maiden Japan Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 It's just a concept art, they can design whatever they want. But I feel that artist has absolutely no respect for the original design of Voltron/ Golion, or either the artist is so young that he never watched the original cartoon. Quote
SuperHobo Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 All it needs now is EXPLOSIONS!!! Mic-bay-EXPLOSIONS! Quote
Chewie Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I like them. It's loads better than the original idea of the kids building the lions out of trash in a junkyard. Just as it was with Transformers, you're not going to get a lineart perfect set of Lions. I'll give it a chance if it gets out of dev hell. Then again, I love Bay's Transformers. /shrug Quote
Greyryder Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 If the movie gets made, I hope they use more streamlined designs. Needs to be more Iron Man, and less Transformers. I'm not a big fan of that particular design style, to begin with. Quote
MIsaHayase Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 I have a copy of the Justin Marks' script for the Voltron Movie and believe me, it is so bad I use it for kitty litter. There is a whole other thread dedicated to it over on the official voltron forums: http://forums.voltron.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5641046761/m/4951001272 Quote

mikeszekely Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 What is it with people making movies that bank on nostalgia for '80s properties while simultaneously thinking that everything from the '80s is too blocky and simplistic, and therefore needs to be rounded with tons of extra moving parts and gears and what-not? This Voltron looks like ass. Not as much as Bayformers, but still ass. Quote
areaseven Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Any bets on whether this or the RT LAM comes out first? Quote

RD Blade Posted September 17, 2010 Author Posted September 17, 2010 This Voltron looks like ass. Not as much as Bayformers, but still ass. I'd say it looks just as bad as Bay Megatron.I actually almost got on board when I saw only the lions, but that Voltron kills it. I hope they take those concept images right back to the drawing board. Even Stealth Voltron looked better...and that thing was god awful. Quote
RedWolf Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 because everything from the '80s is too blocky and simplistic, and will look crappy on the big screen. At least get rid of the Spikes of Villainy. Quote
Lobizon Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 (edited) WAY too Bayformers-ish. Agreed, here another art concept made it by Andree Wallin th artist who made the Voltron art concept. Edited September 17, 2010 by Lobizon Quote
RD Blade Posted September 17, 2010 Author Posted September 17, 2010 That explains so much. I hope he quits the business. Quote
Chewie Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Was that in the first draft of the movie script? I don't remember the lions being built out of a junkyard in the cartoon... Yeah. The concept/draft had Zarkon attacking present day earth while a group of teenagers end up hiding in a junkyard and build Voltron out of scrap and alien tech. Quote
areaseven Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Yeah. The concept/draft had Zarkon attacking present day earth while a group of teenagers end up hiding in a junkyard and build Voltron out of scrap and alien tech. Thus ripping off Megas XLR in the process. Quote

Gaijin Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 (edited) After seeing the third photo with Blue Lion I actually am starting to like the lions that way. Yeah, sue me. Edited September 17, 2010 by Gaijin Quote

The concept/draft had Zarkon attacking present day earth while a group of teenagers end up hiding in a junkyard and build Voltron out of scrap and alien tech. That sounds horrible. I understand it would probably be on Earth, but that sounds utterly ridiculous. More ridiculous than magical robot lions. Quote

one_klump Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 (edited) The torso of the lions just does not agree with me. Looks more like a wolf with a funny head. The Voltron lions had barrel chests, it gave them a more aggressive stance. The legs are too thin for me as well, squared off legs would have been great, with those big honking feet on with the claw missiles. Exposed ribs don't look great either. Also, if you look at the blue lions head, you can see a sports car. Edited September 17, 2010 by one_klump Quote
eriku Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Maybe I'll warm up to it eventually after seeing more, but for now the only word that comes to mind is "barfarino", and since I don't even know what that word means I'll just keep it to myself. Quote
j_wong00 Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Cool now there will be nothing to compete against the Robotech Live Action Movie! I see it as the RT movie following the footsteps of this!!! Quote
mikeszekely Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 because everything from the '80s is too blocky and simplistic awesome, and will look crappy wicked cool on the big screen. Fixed. And yes, I truly believe that detailed CGI models of the Transformers from the '80s cartoon would look much better than the monstrosities that Michael Bay is passing off instead. Just like I think these Voltron concepts suck. Quote
MIsaHayase Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 I don't think your cat appreciates that. Actually, Princess Allura, our youngest loves it LOL. Seriously though, I'm glad the Marks script got canned. It's really really bad. Was that in the first draft of the movie script? I don't remember the lions being built out of a junkyard in the cartoon... They weren't. That was Marks' idea how they were made. Quote

Yup, I rememnber there was test footage around from ILM before the first transformers movie that had an autobot transform next to someone on a desert highway. looked pretty close to the animation too. Chris found it: Would have loved to see a movie with transformers like that. But the insipidity of Bay's Transformers goes beyond design... story, characters and the horrible jokes were inane. Quote
