Robotech 3000 pre-production art; image 16 looks very Macross 2 inspired.

That it does... and that's kind of unsettling in its own way.

Now, I'm well aware that Robotech has all the artistic integrity and originality of a Korean knockoff, but I'd still like its "creators" to at least TRY to do something original. Having each and every attempt to continue the Robotech story devolve into "how can we keep ripping off Macross without getting sued" doesn't really do Robotech's total lack of credibility any favors, and it just irks Macross fans. Just more proof (as though it were needed) that Harmony Gold's "creative team" are a pack of talentless hacks.

I don't see the Macross II, but after Voltron 3D, I think we're all gald Netter Digital went under.

It's not the ship, it's the fighters... the airframe shape is markedly similar to the VF-2SS Valkyrie II from Macross II: Lovers Again, just with the intakes moved inboard to where the arms would be, and the wings taken from a VF-22. The super parts they're equipped with have "wings" that look like enlarged versions of the Valkyrie II's Super Armed Pack, and the dorsal pods in place of the Valkyrie II's railgun and center missile launcher look like they're smaller versions of the dorsal boosters from the VF-1's super parts.

This was not from the Netter Digital iteration of Robotech 3000, this is the version that was showing up when Robotech.com that eventually turned into Shadow Chornicles. That stuff is like 2000 or 2001, after Netter was already dead. The Netter Robotech 3000 mecha were just weird robot forklifts and crap.

Are you sure that's from Tatsunoko's attempt to salvage the series? It's dated 28 June 1999, the year before the disastrous test-screening of the Robotech 3000 teaser at FAnimeCon. I'm no expert on the production timeline of that one, but just from what I've read on it Tatsunoko didn't pick that turd up until after the CG trailer was shot down.

Wow, could that be any more blatant?

Aww... Isn't that cute. It's like Macross and Mospeada made love and produced a really creepy looking bastard kid.

Those flying veritech DO look a bit too much like VF2SS to me, too.

Okay, it may just have been for convenience's sake... Image 14 (Eric Art 7) labels the fighter seen in Image 16 as "Design for Veritec to come later. Just for scene". Could just be that the designer threw together something from Macross he'd liked for the purpose of demonstrating the bay design, and it wouldn't been replaced later by something less obviously ripped-off.

Y'know, at least it was an attempt to do something different for RT instead of ripping off the same old Mospeada designs. They could've shake things up with the Super Alphas with a brand spanking new fighter design. I'm really liking the Corsair and some of the other space cruiser designs. Looks like they were planning for Valk type fighters in RT 3000.

But Carl Macek was the anime industry's answer to Gene Roddenberry. Gene Roddenberry was just a mere member of the Lucifer worshiping Illuminati, but Carl Macek was the anti-Christ of anime!

Gene Roddenberry, a man that radio talk show host Chris Baker would've loved to rip apart verbally, since Baker hates Utopians.

Maybe Macek said that it failed miserably before, but by the time of his A.N.N. interview, he said that the audiences in Houston loved the movie, and it was doing very well until Cannon got nervous and pulled the plug...

What did expect from the prick? He's been trying his damnedest in deluding Houstonians ever since he set up shop here since the early Eighties.

Um...no he hasn't. He lived in Southern California throughout the '80s (and worked there, too). He probably lived in Houston during his time with ADV, but that was late-'90s, early-2000s.

Y'know, it's been nice not having to correct your factual mistakes. But those days are over, I guess...

Wasn't this back when HG thought they had the rights to everything Macross? Also, and I might be missing the point of a conceptual drawing, what's so important about that bay, to focus on how big and menacing the entire thing could be? From combining the various pictures we could predict that one of the the big ships they were eluding to was another Macross-class one, like in II, but more sophisticated.

Everything, not just the fighters, could have been placeholders from Macross to demonstrate something no one has a clear concept on.

Oh, and how the fighters were being deployed for flight in space, the pic in chrisk's post, is similar to how they did it in DYRL.

Ark Angel is now included on the mecha size comparison page: http://www.robotech.com/infopedia/sizecomparison/10mpp.php

And would you believe that, according to The Art of Robotech: the Shadow Chronicles, that ship is meant to hold up to 750,000 colonists? It's absolutely nuts...

As I've said before, details on Robotech 3000's production history are pretty sparse, and I'm no expert on that particular failed Robotech concept. (Nobody is, really... there's just not any information out there on it)

Anyhoo... given that the concept art in question is dated June 1999, it seems unlikely that it was produced for Tatsunoko's attempt to salvage the series with traditional animation. From what I've read (which isn't much) the attempt to salvage the series by handing it over to Tatsunoko didn't go down until after the CGI teaser trailer bombed at FAnimeCon 2000. Given the art style and date, I'd be inclined to say this stuff was done by/for Netter Digital when they were still in charge of the project.

To say that Harmony Gold thought they had the rights to everything Macross would be somewhat misleading at best... it might be more accurate to say that Harmony Gold thought they had the right to control distribution of all things Macross. At Robocon 10, Macek freely admitted that they knew full well they couldn't use any of the designs from Macross in Robotech sequels as early as 1986. With that in mind, I find it highly unlikely that they went into Robotech 3000 thinking they could use Macross designs in it without a lawsuit. Considering the multiple views, I'm assuming the point of the Macross-esque stand-in was to show how the bays were oriented in the ship and how they were to function (which is admittedly still rather like the launch arms on the ARMDs and Zentradi battleships in Macross). The shape of the bays and their placement seem more inspired by Mospeada though.

And whats sad is that with some dialogue and name changes no one would know the difference.

Example:

Robotech narrator voice: As Rick Hunter carries Minmei through part of the sdf-1...

Minmei: Rick where are you taking me?

Rick: I have to show you something.

Minmei: What is it? Tell me..

Robotech narrator voice: Rick then sets minmei down. Then walks over to the window and proceeds to rip his shirt open..

Rick: This is me. It what I am.

Robotech narrator voice: Rick's body proceeds to sparkle. As minmei looks upon him in awe

minmei: your cute.

Rick: no I'm not. I'm a fighter pilot.

(End scene)

Y'know, I was about to sit down to a well-deserved bowl of ice cream after a hard day's work, and now I'm just nauseous.

Anybody care to post a picture of this, since some of us have had our robotech.com accounts shut down for some reason. (tee hee)

Sure thing... the only size comparison image available is on the 10 meters per pixel scale, so it's TINY, but here's the ship in question:

Dude, HG should hire you as one of their script writers.

I know how you feel, but if you look at Hollywood's box office numbers, you'll see that screaming teenage girls pretty much run the film industry's economy. So if HG/WB makes the RT LAM a vampire chick flick (okay, not necessarily vampire, but you get the point), they can lure all the screaming teenage girls into the theaters and make bank big-time.

Well, it's either that or make the LAM a porno flick. Those are the only two ways it will make money.

No...that would be hot sex with a Japanese auto-show fashion model (and yes, I know from experience).

Cleaning up after Wanzerfan, on the other hand, is pretty annoying. :)

If we mash Gubaba's story with the faux rtlam. It would portray him as roy, and wanzerfan as rick.

Gubaba, you've just been cast, proceed to the WB stage lots for costume fitting and all that. Break a leg.

Huh. Yeah, it did...let me be clear and say Wanzerfan had no connection to the auto show model (that I know of, that is).

Man, he would never get hired by HG as a scriptwriter, 'cause he failed to mention "Minmei's MASSIVE 32DD heaving bosoms!!" (and even that is probably expressing it to eloquently for them)

That's because that description is reserved for another scene. duh.

Edit:

It's for the scene when Global fist enters the bridge.

Well since she just got fired from TF 3, how about Megan Fox as Miriya. Though, I'd rather see in a tight & short Chinese dress.

hey now! Whoever gets the role of miriya needs to be able to act and kick ass ;)

MF is neither of those
