505thAirborne Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 (edited) Well here she is, my 1st of many Moebius Colonial MKII Vipers! Its a beautiful kit & pretty easy to work with. Decals are awesome and the Pilot alone makes it worth it. I did mine as Lt. Kara "Starbuck" Thrace, and as you can see she had a rough day today aging some Cylon raiders!! 505thAirborne Posted May 9, 2010 Author Posted May 9, 2010 I just used the Box as a backdrop for taking my pictures today, just one more Plus for this Kit! Have fun building & sharing pics of your MKII Ghost Train!!! Quote

I'll post some update-pics on the modeling thread soon. For anyone who's wondering what the plain kit looks like here's a picture of my test-fit. It's a nice kit thus far, the only thing that's a bit annoying is how that rear engine assembly fits together, but it's a minor issue. Quote
big F Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 AWESOME WORK Arrg!!!! Another kit to add to the list, at my rate of build at least when I retire I'll have loads to do be for they cart me off to the old codgers home. Quote
ambient73 Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 I am seriously impressed by your weathering and detail skills...beautiful kit! Quote
VF-19 Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Got me working again on my Viper Mk2... The stripe decal for the nose just broke up... I think I'll just paint the nose tip red. Tamiya's red seems to be a good match. Nice viper! Quote

Tamiya's red seems to be a good match. Nice viper! You'll definitely want to paint the Nose section, of all the decals provided that one is very fragile! Testors or Tamiya are great choices! Quote
Ghost Train Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 (edited) Finished! I'll build another one sometime this year with the normal Colonial livery. Since Kara Thrace was an instructor at some point before joining Galactica, it would not have been unusual to have Starbuck fly an "aggressor unit" to train noobs - thus the inspiration for the camo pattern. It is an awesome kit, I enjoyed every second of building it. Edited May 19, 2010 by Ghost Train Quote
Kyp Durron Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 (edited) I guess I'll add my 2 cents: I got her done except the pilot, (I'll do that later when I get the right colors) it took me around 12-13 hours total. It has seam lines, but most of those will be covered whenever I get around to ordering a set of JT Graphics Black stripes and put those on. In the meantime, she's more like a real world navy fighter which looks pretty cool to me as is. A few pics: As you can see, there's no flight control stick as I plan on putting a pilot in it later. I suppose in the meantime I could paint the control stick black and pressure fit it in place. I'll probably do it later today. There won't be any weathering, I don't have the right tools nor the skills and I'm not about to frak this model up trying, lol. I haven't built a model in years, I had forgotten how much fun they can be. Hope you like it. Edited June 9, 2010 by Kyp Durron Quote
Kyp Durron Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 OK, NOW all the images will show up, villagephotos is screwy for some reason... Quote
505thAirborne Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 Looks great Kyp Durron!! The Low Viz scheme works great on the MKII VIPER! I just got my second kit the other day, how to paint that one....? Quote
Ghost Train Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 That's a nice clean build Kip. Love the choice of colors. I'm getting a new Viper soon as well... I'm thinking of a "Mafia-themed" Mk. II, the "Halatha Hammer." Just have to get past the backlog of other stuff... Quote
Kyp Durron Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Thanks guys, I can't wait to see what the black stripes will look like on this, I think it will complete the BSG Low Vis theme. Ever since I saw the custom MKII black stripes, I've been wanting to build a Low Vis gray version to use them on. Quote
Kyp Durron Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 I wanted to get some experience placing the decals before I get the black ones from JT Graphics, so I tried placing the ones from the kit on it to see what kind of problems if any that I may need to prepare for. I only did one side and took some pictures: It doesn't look too bad, but it's not the look I'm going for, so I'll be taking these off and wait till I get the Black stripes in... Quote
505thAirborne Posted June 12, 2010 Author Posted June 12, 2010 That looks bad ass Kyp! Great job! Quote
Kyp Durron Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 I played with one of the pictures to get an idea as to what the Black stripes will look like: Quote
505thAirborne Posted July 2, 2010 Author Posted July 2, 2010 I like the black stripes Kyp! I just got my second MKII kit in, now just need some free time to work on it! Might a Low-Vis Navy scheme. Quote
505thAirborne Posted July 27, 2010 Author Posted July 27, 2010 Just started my 2nd MKII Viper today, this one will be Apollo's fighter. The 3rd Kit on its way will be either the Black & Blue pinstripe Viper (Like the pic shown below) or a Low Vis. Navy paint scheme. Will post some pics later on!! Also heard from my buddy who has a Hobby shop in Northridge that the GALACTICA will be out pretty soon, So I already reserved mine! Quote
