sharky
They're all a little ridiculous... It's a fun show as far as weapon-porn goes, but there's nothing particularly realistic about their results. The 'scientific' methodology is laughable, and the weapons seem to be largely chosen for their respective popularity, novelty or cool factors rather than practicality or realism. O.o I formally request that you turn in your man card.
Uxi
And yes, adding the environment factor would just fry poor little Max Geiger's software program to be sure--especially in the Shaka/Wallace fight. If they fought in a cold area like Scotland, poor Shaka would be shivering too much to fight. And if in the grasslands of Africa, ol' Willie boy would be liable to heat-stroke out before too long. Crusaders (Wallace's closest contemporaries) did tend to die of heat stroke more than battle, but they also won quite a few battles against armies of Turcoman, Arabs, Kurds, and Persians, who would have been far better equipped than Zulus with technology, economy, and more advanced in concepts such as hygiene and scientific warfare. I would try to explain to him that its a stupid comparison but he was a child so he didn't get it. He grew up and is not such a tard now. Anyone who likes this show thinks like a 6 year old. Yeah everyone knows the shark would eat the eagle. Haven't you seen that movie where LL Cool J's parrot gets eaten by a shark Anyone see that Japanese site that had the various insects fighting each other? A modern Arena would be bad ass. Yeah but at that point you're not talking about the show but about the other guys on this thread. Reality shows are all stupid. There was one that was one FOX about special forces guys competing, but instead of making them go up against each other, like SAS vs. SWAT they mixed up the teams... totally stupid. People wanna know which team can take out who.

Ghost Train
I sort of like this show particularly because it appeals to the 6-year old components of my brain. Vic Mancini
I sort of like this show particularly because it appeals to the 6-year old components of my brain. I mean gosh how can we talk about maturity when we're posting on a board about jet fighters transforming into giant robots. Quoted for truth. I was thinking the same thing when Agent One first made his comments. But I disagree with the notion that the show is for immature components of the brain. I don't think there is anything immature about the premise of the show. Why can't a grown man wonder who would win in a fight between a Samurai and a Spartan? It's just a hypothetical. There's nothing "stupid" or immature about that. Those kinds of hypothetical questions are interesting and are exactly what jump starts the brain. Bash the science of the show all you want, but don't hate on the premise. The premise is awesome. If the show was done by the Myth Busters crew, it would probably be perfect in every way. Ghost Train
So last evening was the highly controversial matchup of SS vs VC. It was a pretty interesting showdown (lol I liked the constant reminders throughout the show: They are both bad mmmkay? ). The flamethrower demo was pretty sick, I'm surprised by how compact the whole unit looked, with definitely a smaller profile than the standard American flamethrower of the day. The most impressive demo though was definitely the VC's grenade trap. I'm not surprised that the AK-47 was left out, doing so really gimps VC's stats, but I guess they had to balance it out so the fight seemed fair against a 1940's unit. Still, would have liked to see a Sturmgewehr vs. AK demonstration. The smack talk was kind of weak, understandable given who they "were representing." reddsun1
Okay, watched "Aztec vs Zande," thought it was okay, kinda meh. The lengths they go to in order to orchestrate their "test" results are getting more obvious (like the spurting-blood-pack in the pig for the Jaguar's spear tests? ). I think this show is starting to lose it's steam. Don't necessarily see them renewing for a 3rd season. Didn't really care to finish "SS vs Viet Cong." I couldn't help but think that comparison was just in really bad taste. I know SPIKE's viewing demograpic ain't exactly likely to contain males 60-and-up (duh), but still--there's people out there who might see the dramatizations and think "my buddy died that way." A small part of me can't help but think: we ought to be at least a little bit disturbed by just what they're celebrating on this show. This is supposed to be a look at some of history's greatest warriors, right? But it just ends up being a lot of the "experts" standing around boasting their pride at the brutality, the savagery of their respective cultures. You'd think there should be something just a little bit wrong about that... Edited May 19, 2010 by reddsun1
Vepariga
human nature is conflict, people just love to see a fight. when they make these things i dont think they even thought about war veterans that would watch it,but even then, this isnt like some high budget war series or film,so i think its rather overlooked. emajnthis
I watch it when it's on, i enjoyed the "best of" episode with the spartan vs the Samurai, but as far as it's "scientific" merits, i take it all with a grain of salt, it's throw away entertainment. What is impressive is seeing the kind of damage stone, iron, and modern age weapons can do to the human body, or to see how truly resilient armor can be (like the Spartan shield). You'd think there should be something just a little bit wrong about that... This is also one complaint I have about the show. I think it is possible to discuss the weapons, training, and cultural aspects of each combatant in a more professional manner (I mean one of the hosts is a doctor ffs lol). I cringe a little bit every time Jeoff (sp?) yells: "<Insert Violent Verb> IT UP!!!!" right before a demonstration. Also, Dr. Armand seems to really enjoy the action despite the fact that his profession requires a "do no harm" oath. Sure, it can be argue that the study of pointy things help advance medicine, but it would be better to have more of a Dr. House rather than a Dr. Nick, which is what he currently sounds like) analyzing the damage. The professionalism of the demonstrators is also so-so. On one extreme we had the ex-special ops guys like the demonstrator for the Spartans who knew their sh!t, did their stuff, and kept the smack at a muted level... then we have the Zande "blood-drinking" guy (I have to admit, that was epic lolz, good showmanship). Yes, that was a WTF?! followed immediately by a LOL when I saw that one... Don't worry, my hypocrisy has its bounds--I realize here I am, trying to get all philosophical on what's meant for purely entertainment purposes only, weapons-porn and superficial bravado at its best. The SWAT and GSG9 guys seemed to show the most professionalism/mutual respect, I'd say. The Spartan weapons expert did indeed know his sh*t. It's hard to really single out one "best," but I still (narrowly) vote the Spartan as the most bada$$ of all time for me.

Wanzerfan
I caught a few episodes. The Special Forces vs. Spetnaz was rather weak, in my opinion. Maybe because the Special Forces team was a mixture of members from all of the Armed Forces. I would've loved to see how the Spetnaz would do against a team of Marine Recon members. My guess is those Russkies would have their asses handed to them. Spartan vs. Ninja, well it's nice to see the ninja isn't the top dog. Also, the introduction made it clear that the 2 Spetnaz guys weren't from the same class of Spetnaz. One was naval, and the other was from MVD. EXO
anyone watch Top Shot? It's a show that puts sharp shooters of different weapons against each other. I don't really understand why they have to put them into a house together, maybe it's cheaper than putting them up in a hotel and you get extra footage. But it's a show about actual skills. Vic Mancini
I'm starting to lose interest in Deadliest Warrior. Or at least, the scientific flaws are starting to drag my interest down. I recently watched Somali Pirates vs Medellin Cartel. They tested the PKM Machine Gun against the M60 Machine Gun, and gave the edge to the PKM over the M60 because the PKM only jammed once and the M60 jammed twice during the test. But who's to say the PKM wouldn't jam twice the next time they tested it, and the M60 might not jam at all? It's funny...they run the battle simulation 1000 times so there is no statistical variance, but they don't do the same thing when it comes to actually testing the weapons. They could at least test them 10 times each. That's not so hard.

EXO
Yeah, the reality aspect is really dumb. I don't know why they have to eliminate people even though the people that have left have been douches IMO... but that's not even the point. The point is who can shoot different weapons most accurately? And another dumb part is that they sit out people that the other team chooses. So really the idea here is to find out who's the worst shooter, not the best. I think a point system would have been better. But I agree. The props and obstacles are the fun part of the show.
