VF-18S Hornet Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 (edited) Here is the first phase of my customization of my TV VF-1S Hikaru inspired by Rabidweevil's work, took me awhile to get ready though not as much as I thought it would turn out at first to be last five after I did a paint test with the first. Had to get a circle templet to cut a 9/32 diameter hole in painters tape to paint the tip of the missile no mess though. I had intended to dip the tips in flat red paint though that didn't work out the way I had planned it, I had to deal with the glob of paint dripping down which took me several minutes to wipe way the excess paint with the paintbrush. My next phase will be the verniers, wish me luck. Plus I did get the decals from Erick from Takatoys, unfortunatly for me it ended up at my home address in Pittsburgh, long story short Paypal had my old address saved from my HLJ account back when I ordered model kits from them, and I didn't have paypal back in 1998. So my mother will be mailing them to me here in Delaware. Edited October 29, 2010 by VF-18S Hornet Quote

I just stuck a safety razor under the edge, spun it around and twisted the blade slightly to loosen the glue. Then I stuck the back of the tips to a doubled-over piece of scotch tape and painted them. After they dried I just used a drop of model glue to get them back on. Quote

That seems like a massive waste of money, is the different colored pilot really that big of a deal? I really only want the Roy, but the allure of TV pilot Hikaru (I always thought the DYRL flight suits are more than a little ridiculous and like the TV suits much better). I prefer DYRL FAST Packs but don't exactly dislike the TV Super Packs... Quote

All I do is voice my opinion on why one would buy literally the exact same figure and color scheme, just with the armor and a different pilot. Why I can't voice an adverse opinion? That's what it seems like every time I try to post, you or someone else comes along and basically squashes my opinion and says I should respect others, yes we do mostly buy the exact same figures in different schemes with different heads, but this, to me, seemed like a massive waste. So, people aren't allowed to voice their opinions if they contradict yours? Bwahah, man... that's rich. I really don't see how I was acting like an ass, I made a simple statement that I thought it was a waste to get practically the exact same figure twice, like I said it was a simple opinion, one that I guess was important enough for you to reply to and crush making you seem like an ass to me. You didn't voice an opinion, you twice now said I should respect others, people can obviously do what they want, the guy obviously has both figures, my opinion had no impact before I made it, what's the big deal? To be honest you're the one acting like an ass when I voiced a simple unimportant opinion, apparently it bothered you enough to reply and somehow try to suggest I don't respect others opinions. You're neither his mom, wife, or financial advisor and he didn't ask, so your "opinion" is at best condescension and at worst insulting. Ah my last say in the matter, I put nobody down, I gave no names, replied to nobody, I aimed at nobody in particular I just posted. And once again you put words in my mouth, I never said buying toys was a waste, I said buying several of the nearly identical figure was, and obviously I'm nobodies wife, or husband, or advisor, but since my comment was aimed at nobody it particular that point you tried to make was unnecessary. Obviously I buy macross figures as well, or I wouldn't have become a member and posted. -To VF-18S Hornet, good for you I'm sure the figs will look great, I personally would never buy several of the same fig, but if you're into that and can afford it go for it! ae_productions Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 I remember I got an extra VF-1J (for my 1:48's) for the GBP armor. I also brought an extra VF-1S so I could pilot swap them, and have a TV RICK HUNTER. Yes, Rick Hunter. I grew up with Robotech, and it introduced me to the world of anime. At that time, it was called Japanamation. Then it changed to Manga. Now it's Anime. Wow. Off subject, Davis. Point is, I *LOVE* both my Valks, even though the only difference is the pilot. I don't see the big deal if someone wants a TV Hikaru (I switched back to Macross for you all) and a DYRL Roy. I have a small army of VF-1 Valkryies. Each of them are identical to the other. The only thing that separates them is a different paint scheme or head (1A, 1J, 1S). So, why do I have so many of them? Well, I love my Valkyries. And, it's fun having options when you display them. If you have more than one Valk, you can display one in a fighter mode, and have the battroid behind it. Or, have the DYRL Valks on one shelf, and the TV on the other. Or, have them organized by squadron... It doesn't matter. Eugimon is right. It's his hobby. A hobby that MOST of here on this forum share. If you don't like it, just keep the negativity to yourself. It's one thing to express a bad opinion about an inadimate object, but it's another to indirectly attack another person for what is ultimately no reason. And, considering you collect toys as well, probably fair to say hypocritical. Opinions are great, and we all have them, but being negative for the sake of it is destructive and even vindictive. Long live Robotech. I mean, Macross. Ha ha! Quote

Well I can't speak for everyone but having a tv accurate gummi Roy was a must for me and if you didn't already have a gummi Hikaru from one of the other releases or really only wanted to have have "Hikaru's 1S" too I could see where getting both would make a lot of sense. So is there a reason for you to make a statement or express your opinion that it's a waste of money and wonder if it's a big deal to have different colored pilots. It's contradicting. By wondering what the big deal is of having different colored pilots you sound to me and perhaps to others that it is ridiculous to waste money on it while at the same time you encourage those who can afford it to get it. BTW, I just want to complete my 1/60 TV set up. I am only getting the original TV quartet: Roy, Max, Hikki and Kaki. I am just missing TV Roy, and TV Kaki. The 102 I have already (genesis). I may not even get fast packs for these, since my 1/48 collection is 98% complete with FPs and GBPs. Quote
sidearmsalpha Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 I just want to get the version without the armor because of the TV Roy pilot. I already have the Super VF-1J Hikaru, but plan on getting the GBP armor for that, so the pilot and Super Armor are a non-issue. I figure I could swap out the TV Roy for TV Hikaru and add the Super Parts just to change things up someday. I haven't been following the thread closely, but is Hikaru's name tampo-printed onto the Hikaru version? I guess if it is, I would have to get that version at some point then. Are there any other differences between the Roy and Hikaru versions? Quote
Alain Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 (edited) I would also liked the FP Hikky version, but since most of my DYRL valks have " Bent " vstabs, due to the fastpack, Im hesitant to get the FP version. Edited August 27, 2010 by Alain Quote

epic Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Good evening all, I just received my VF-1S today; Roy version. I must say, as nice as the posted pictures are, this valkyrie is just awesome in person! And with the bright white color as opposed to the gray/white, it just catches your eye on the shelf. I also liked the skull & crossbones w/"VF-1S" on the inside of the packaging. I thought that was neat. Anyways, just thought I'd take a sec and share my thoughts. Later. Quote
