1-3 months of free PSN+ is a called a promotion, not an apology.

In Europe the rumour is that they might be getting to choose some PS3 games. Possibly 2 games out of a list of 5. They might also be getting 1 free PSP game.

I agree that free PS+ is little more than a promotion. The only advantage to it is that you can buy games at a discount. As soon as I heard this I immediately realized this was little more than an attempt to get people to buy products after the network comes back. Everything else it offers disappears once the free trial ends.

It would be nice to know the details of the AllClear ID Plus insurance plan that Sony is offering. If the policy/certificate works exactly as described, then it's a step in the right direction for Sony.

And just a caveat for anyone who's planning on taking advantage of the promotional Playstation Plus period: don't use cloud game save service. Cloud game saves are only accessible to PSN+ subscribers, so once your promotional period ends, you should lose access to any cloud game saves that you've created. I believe that this also applies to any PSOne Classics and Playstation Minis that are downloaded too. Like others have said, just about the only things that you'll probably be able to permanently keep are themes and avatar items.

Instead of 1-3 months of free PSN+, I rather they give us a $10-$15 (or whatever reasonable amount) voucher code to use on whatever we like in the PSN store...

But then people would use the money to buy games published by other companies and Sony would have to reimburse them. This way they're giving you credit, which costs them nothing.

The cloud saving is indeed worthless since you will lose access to the files afterwards. What's really stupid about cloud saving is that you get about 150MB of storage for your game saves, yet AFRIKA, a game published by Sony themselves in Japan has a save file of 250MB. So you can't even backup the save file for one of their own games.

Considering the amount of damage and time spent rebuilding PSN, any kind of reimbursement offer at this point would feel like a promotion.

my point was that I'd prefer something that was actually beneficial to the people that sony screwed over with their incompetence rather than something that's only beneficial to people as long as they give sony even more money. <_<

I really just want PSN to get back up so I can play multiplayer with my friends again. We were getting into playing Crysis 2 until PSN went down. Personally, I agree with everyone else that Playstation Plus for a few months doesn't cut it....

I just want Netflicks on the PS3 again. Initially, you can still access the program after ignoring the sign in, but after you pick what you want to watch you get the prompt to sign into PSN again and the download stops because it won't/can't go through.

Check the ps3 online forum at Gamefaq's.com. A lot of them there are saying that they can still successfully use netflix.

a lot of the cats at blu-ray.com say Netflix still works, too. Just have to cancel out of it's attempts to log into PSN (which would obviously fail) a couple times

Posted

Yep. Been using Netflix since the crash, it'll eventually give up asking you to log in after you back out from logging in a few times. it'll pop up once in a while when you're inactive...but It works just fine.

Finally they official announce Starhawk .

Looking forward to this: As someone who doesn't really play online, I did buy and enjoy Warhawk.

Just finished another playthrough of Valkyria Chronicles. This game is just amazing from the canvas graphics engine to the gameplay. I developed a pretty strong attachment to all my squad members and went through incredible lengths to save everyone. Seeing all the names with an ALIVE status in the credits was great :) ...

Why oh why did they make the sequels for PSP?

Note: the anime fails to do justice to this awesome game.

Strange, I know the servers went up last night @ 8:00pm EST starting with New York Ending with Texas. I was able to change my password via the web, and even update my firmware but I kept getting down for maintenance errors tonight.

Same here, but its all set now. Turns out the changing- your-password blitz caused them to shut the network down for a little while. The PlaystationStore remains down, though.

Well, I was able to get on, change my password, and see my friends list, but the PlayStation Store is still "down for maintenance." I'm bummed. Users are supposed to be able to pick two free games out of a list of five, and believe it or not I never got around to playing inFAMOUS or Little Big Planet, so yeah, there's my two. If I can actually get to them.

Hmmm....I hadn't expected the list to be populated with those titles. I was expecting Undertow levels of PSN stuff like...Cash Guns Chaos.

:D

From the PSBlog, the whole list of freebies:

I'm going to pick up metal gear. Check out the uncharted games plus heavy rain.

I'm kinda into shooters but I haven't had time lately to play the few that I have.I like Racing but feel that GT5 is overrated and haven't heard too much good from the community.

I do have an xbox360.

Edit:

It the Remote worth it?

The remote is totally worth it, not cheap or flimsy like the PS2 remote.

Just received this in my email today:

Identity Theft Protection Offer for PlayStation®Network and Qriocity™ Customers

Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment have made arrangements with Debix to offer AllClear ID PLUS to eligible PlayStation®Network and Qriocity account holders in the United States who are concerned about identity theft.

AllClear ID PLUS is a premium identity protection service that uses advanced technology to deliver alerts to help protect you from identity theft. The service also provides identity theft insurance coverage and hands-on help from expert fraud investigators.

Sony has arranged, at no charge to eligible PlayStation®Network and Qriocity account holders, for twelve months of this service to be provided by Debix to those who choose to enroll. In order to be eligible, account holders must be residents of the United States with active accounts as of April 20, 2011.

If interested, please submit your email address by June 28, 2011, at 11:59:59 PM CST at: us.playstation.com/news/consumeralerts/identity-theft-protection.

Please note, you must enter the same email address used to register your PlayStation®Network or Qriocity account. Once your email address is validated, you will be sent your AllClear ID PLUS activation code.

Sincerely,

Sony Computer Entertainment & Sony Network Entertainment

I imagine that if you do not cancel by the 12 months are up, you will be rolled into a paying account. Which could translate into mega-$$ for the company since most people won't remember to opt out.
