nexxstrait Posted June 10, 2010 Author Posted June 10, 2010 (edited) Nobody got #50 yet? It's out today. Really curious if the VF-2JA gets a Tenjin painting or not. Graham Don't know, but some previews are out on MC site. There's a nice Tenjin picture with a lot of macross fighters (maybe a double page?). Strangely enough, there is a VF11 but no VF17 (or 171). Here's the image: Edited June 10, 2010 by nexxstrait Quote

sketchley Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 (edited) Content review #50 (going to miss these biweekly reviews) This issue is a MUST. For one reason. More on that later: Mechanic: M0 UN 05a: HWR-00-Mk IP: whole lotta awsome, but sadly all or the majority of the lineart is what's been printed in the guide books that came with the M0 DVDs. Extra report on the Monster series (M0, SDFM, MF) SDFM UN 01D: SDF-1 Macross ship interior (machines, military bases/hangers, etc) M7 Var 02a: Az-130a Pantaazorun: a lot of data cramped onto one page... nevertheless, nice to see the development: VF-4 > VF-14 > Az-130a MF Cit 02c: VF-25S Messiah: front - super parts, reverse: VF-25 transformation (mostly standard, but a smaller segment on fighter to GERWALK with the armour pack) MII UN 02a VF-2JA Ikarosu: nothing unexpected. Note: no painting. DYRL Mel 03b: Merutorandi Forces Naval Fleet: interesting, but I'd had hoped that there would be more than a paragraph or two per ship. Ah well, a paragraph is better than nothing. Extra report: the Merutorandi medium gunship that became the SDF-1 in the movie/MII chronology. Character; DYRL Cit 01c: Rin Minmei - wardrobe from the final 1/3 of the movie. Extra report on Rin Kaifun. DYRL UN 08a: Buruuno J Guroobaru - extra report on the UN military personnel that boarded the Macross (supplimental bridge bunnies and command staff) Timeline 00: Protoculture history and mankind's progress: very, very, very intersting. But very, very, very, very small, dense text. From 20,000,000,000 BC to Sept. 2059 AD. History SDFM 16a: Rin Minmei Opertion - awesome front illustration. Extra reports on: "the hidden power of song" and "Operations that made use of song" Worldguide: 03a: Protoculture FTW. Extra reports on "Protoculture Ruins" and "overtechnology after that" Technology sheet 01q: VF series chart: front - wicked awesome Tenjin painting (not only signed, but dated by the artist). Reverse is the lineage. Some noteable content: SV-52. Pheyos Valkyrie, Stampede Valkyrie, VF-X-7 Ghost Valkyrie are "unknown" where they fit in. ALL the rest of the VFs that appeared in MC fit in somewhere. Most interesting is that the YF-24 is developed in 2040 (!), the YF-24 Evolution in 2057 (!!), the VF-171 in 2046 (!) 16a: Macross class and successor ships - a whole lot of awesome. Reverse has a colour coded chart showing the battle and residential sections of the various Macross ships (Megaroad, Macross, Macross Quarter, Macross 7 and Macross Frontier). Extra reports on: "the residential faculties of Zentraadi warships" and "Ships of the same shape as the Macross warship(s)" (Battle 13, Macross 5, Macross Galaxy are featured) Extra sheet: Tracks of the Macross Series: all productions and release dates from 1982.10.03 (SDFM broadcast start) to 2010.winter ("Theatrical Macross F "Sayonaranotsubasa""'s planned release date) Extra report on "Kamishakuji station's message board" (from April, 2010, the sign board features Macross. It's the closest station to Studio Nue" Cover Collection: front all 50 covers. Reverse: message from Shoji Kawamori. Reverse cover interior: the reason to buy this issue (like you need one anyways): errata from #1~50. Eg: issue #48 page 21 worldguide Maruduuku, sheet number 22a, problem sheet number, error 22a, truth: 28a. There are a lot of entries (about 1/4 in issues 1 and 2 alone!), and it's something very high on my must translate list. (Before anyone asks: yes the VF-19 is there. But only the Fire Valkyrie version. Edited June 10, 2010 by sketchley Quote

sketchley Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 And where's Macross 7 U.N. Forces Mecha Sheet 11...? Oh, good. I thought I had misplaced a sheet. So, that's two "MIA". The errata page only lists 3 sheets that had the wrong page numbers: SDFM 19a UN Forces Vehicles (reprinted in issue 11) Goods 08 Character Goods (sticker in #21 Worldguide Maruduuku 28a (errata notice only) So... planned and not printed? Saving for a reprint or a follow-on series to cover the two MF movies? (fingers crossed!) Quote

Gubaba Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Ow! for a moment I believed you! But, really, VF2JA is in black & white only? Single sheet? Why spend time on the VF-2JA when you can dwell on more awesome things, like Mylene's classy and extensive wardrobe? Quote
Seto Kaiba Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 MII UN 02a VF-2JA Ikarosu: nothing unexpected. Note: no painting. Didn't expect it to get a Tenjin painting... it's just too minor. Any actual data this time, or is it just another "did not do research" sheet? Quote
Graham Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Hmmm.......how come Tenjin's VF-1S Hikaru on the cover (and poster) of issue # 50 has a 011 marking, instead of 001? Graham Quote

It's been a while since I last re-watched DYRL (due to video card issues), did he change numbers in DYRL? I know he was 011 in the beginning... maybe it was a simple slip-up? Sketchley's almost certainly right about it being an in-joke/reference though... what with Shin Kudo being 311 in Macross Zero and Hikaru being 011 in DYRL. Edited June 12, 2010 by Seto Kaiba Quote

Graham Copying poses from those Hasegawa kits sometimes may confuse the illustrator! For Sketckley: the VF2JA has at least a colored fighter mode on the front page of its sheet or is it ALL in black and white lineart?? Quote
sketchley Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Sketckley? Who's that? Anyhow, it's in the same pattern as all the other single sheet mechanical sheets. Quote

Graham Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I asked Tenjin on his Facebook page about the '011' marking on the Hikaru VF-1S on the cover and poster of issue #50 and he replied: - Graham ParkesHidetaka Tenjin: Hi Tenjin,I just bought issue # 50 of Macross Chronicles yesterday. Great cover and poster. But why does the Hikaru VF-1S have a '011' marking? Shouldn't it be '001'? nexxstrait Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 (edited) Hehehe, I knew it Well, since it's an imaginary picture, 011 is not that bad a mistake! By the way, now that chronicle is over (still waiting for my #41-50 to arrive, yum), we are left without VF25A/Cannon Fodder pictures (strange, since we got VF7 cf), the aforementioned missing M7 mech sheet (even if I think it was a simple mistake and that sheet 12 A should be treated as 11 and B as 12 - I know they have the same subject, but they have single sheet layout) and MII History sheet, righ? Since I keep them divided by series in this order - History, Character, Mecha - maybe I'll move MII content with the EXTRA mecha sheets. I'll miss it too greatly, even if my wallet was beginning to scream. Edited June 14, 2010 by nexxstrait Quote

I knew about M7 mecha sheet #11, but 9-13 from the civilian characters section?? Wow, that's a HUGE gap. Weren't they covered? Maybe they originally planned to have single sheets devoted to, say, Rex, Rex's gang, Akiko, Flower girl, etc. instead of cramping them with other characters. Quote

Anyway, MII Character Sheet #3 MUST have been for Wendy Ryder...but I'm not sure about the others... Absolutely, she's the one missing. As for other M7 haracters, I can't think of anything specific (maybe policemen, zentradi citizens, other bands, the UN Spacy veterans, punks and thugs). And to think that if they didn't waste all those pages on Mylene's wardrobe... (or song sheets. I couldn't care less for them. Every time I get to their section, I can't help but think "what a waste of space"). Is there no explanation for these missing sections? Like "Hey, we suddently run out of space!" 60 issues? Maybe. That would explain why they cut short many sections of the merchandise including that of the CDs (and that's almost unbelievable, since it's Macross we're talking about). sketchley Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Maybe the planned for 60, maybe only 50. Maybe the 60 was "if we can get MF movie content, we'll do it", or maybe it was cut back due to declining sales (I don't have any precise numbers, but I know the local bookstore initially carried 7 to 10 issues. The last few, it's only been 2 or 3). Maybe if it was only 50, they planned to do it, but truncated the content to fit in stuff that they didn't realize was part of Macross (ie: the games). Quote

At the beginning, I figured they probably had everything planned out, but clearly those plans started changing a while back (with the revised Production Data sheets). I'm guessing that some of the Event and Goods sheets had to be added into the plan and the magazine progressed, cutting out some other stuff (such as the never-materialized "Tribute Sheet"). I think I would be glad if they pulled an Eva Chronicle and made more issues in a few years, both to cover stuff that they didn't get to, and to cover the Macross F movies (and whatever comes next for Macross). Quote
Seto Kaiba Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 (aww, look how cute it is in all its light blue glory ) Still waiting on my copies of issues 45-50 to be delivered, but from what I've heard from those few folks who've already acquired it, it's a decidedly lackluster sheet, like their coverage of the Metal Siren. No data, and no mention of the alternate white-and-red color scheme from the manga that made its way into a fair few calendars and such. I think I would be glad if they pulled an Eva Chronicle and made more issues in a few years, both to cover stuff that they didn't get to, and to cover the Macross F movies (and whatever comes next for Macross). Likewise... but if they do go back and cover the stuff they didn't get to in Chronicle's initial run and add stuff from the Macross Frontier movies, I'd also want them to go back and fix the sheets that had obvious errors in the data blocks (VF-19F/S, VA-1SS, Renegade Armor, etc.), left things as "Under investigation", or left out important info that could've made for much more informative articles.
