Technology 04A: Zentraadi Mobile Weapons: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRtechnology/MCRtechnology.php - some more interesting points, though it kind of sidesteps why the Quadoran-Roh that appear in Macross 7 are the movie version designs, and not the TV version. Seto Kaiba Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Technology 04A: Zentraadi Mobile Weapons: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRtechnology/MCRtechnology.php - some more interesting points, though it kind of sidesteps why the Quadoran-Roh that appear in Macross 7 are the movie version designs, and not the TV version. Eh... my read of it was essentially a (brief) acknowledgement of what Macross II's prequels suggested. Namely, that the Zentradi (and Meltrandi) military hardware isn't necessarily uniform across the entire galaxy. Some fleets have slightly different variants of the same designs (like the Nousjadeul-Ger and Queadluun-Rau), or even whole families of mecha other fleets don't get. In short, that both versions exist and are in service at the same time, and what version a fleet has depends on what factory they're getting them from. Quote
sketchley Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 (edited) (...) In short, that both versions exist and are in service at the same time, and what version a fleet has depends on what factory they're getting them from. I'll take that justification (it's the only way to wrap ones head around Kawamori's "each onto itself" statement and still making sense out of things). Complete: Goods 05: The Valkyries That Appeared In Publications And Games: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRgoods/MCRgoods.php#05CG - This sheet makes me feel like one of my requests on the reader response card has been answered! Alas, it doesn't go as far, or as deep as I would have liked it to. E.g.: we get the Kawamori penned VEFR-1 from "SDFM Model World" (which also appears in SDFM), but the alternate Phalanx heads by Miyatake Kazutaka aren't mentioned. That said, we get a bunch of rare mecha, and, at the very least, where they appeared. Ie: the LDR-04 Maverick from "SDFM Remember Me" and the Daedalus 2nd Generation from "SDFM Eternal Love Song". The highlight is the images and description for the VAL-0B (ABL equipped model) from the "Character Model Magazine". Have any of you readers seen or heard of that before? It's a first for me. And what do you know, it's on a Chinese language site (saves me from having to scan it, yay!): fighter: http://vf-research.com/introduce/VF-0/VAL-0B/VAL-0B.htm fighter (underside) and battroid: http://vf-research.com/introduce/VF-0/VAL-0B/VAL-0B2.htm Edited July 20, 2014 by sketchley Quote
sketchley Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 RM++ Project: Mechanic: Plus UN 04A: Ghost X-9: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#M+ - not much extra coverage, but the enlarged images (and painting!) are nice. The RM leaves a bit to be desired, but its nice to know that the diamond shapes on the Super Parts are micro-missile launcher firing ports, eh. Episode: 7 51A & B: Encore "Which One Do You Like?": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#M7 - The highlight of the sheet has to be having ALL of Viheeda's lines all in one place. The Commentary is a nice read, and the Topic on Takeda Eri nicely rounds things out with a decent amount of real life/behind the scenes info. Quote
sketchley Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 RM++ Project: Episode: II 06A & B: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross II -Lovers Again- Episode 6 "Sing Along": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#MII - quite a satisfying pair of sheets to wrap up the series. Aside from thickly underling Hibiki's significance to the Marduk's future (something that, IMHO, never came across in the dup from 2+ decades back), it speculates into the origins of the Macross Cannon base. Neat! Mechanic: Other UN 04B: Variable Guraaji / Neo Guraaji: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#Other - a complete overhaul of the original*. The enlarged images of the three VFs are a joy to look at, and the expanded details and more thorough examination of the VFs is nice. On the other hand, they only serve to deepen their mystery - the sheet even goes so far as to admit that it doesn't know if the Variable Guraaji or the Neo Guraaji came first! * So changed, I'm retaining the original: Extra Sheet: Game & Advanced Valkyrie 4: VF-14 Vampire, Neo Guraaji, Variable Guraaji: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCother.php Quote

Complete: Gallery: Ai: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross Do You Remember Love? #79: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRgallery/MCRgallery.php#DYRL - looks like only one image from the original isn't being republished in the Revised Ed.. Episode: F 00E: Macross F (Frontier) The List Of Mechanic/Character In Each Episode: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#MF - another in the series of sheets that I see no need for... Mechanic: All 02B: Size Comparison: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#all - some meat on the bones of this one - a definitive take on the size of some of the Zentraadi ships (are they the size of the Japanese Islands? No, just the size of Hokkaido!). It´s finally end in the number 81 or 82?? #81 Quote
sketchley Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 RM++ Project: Character 7 UN 08A: Mory / Deek: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#M7 - all you wanted to... nope. But it does provide a good run-down of what the non-hero pilots faced in the series (again, underlying how great the underlying concept of M7 really was, even though how it ended up being dramatized (and to a lesser extent, animated) leaving something to be desired). History: F 08A: The Battle Of The Vajra Homeworld: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRhistory/MCRhistory.php#MF - the highlight is the RM on the Vajra Homeworld - loaded with goodies, not the least of which is the motivation of both fleets. Complete! (well, recomplete): Mechanic: 7 Citizen 03B: City 7 Civilian Vehicles: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#M7 - aside from some tense changes, its basically the same, aside from the big question inducing change: why was it moved from the 7 Civilian 01A to the 03B position? And what's the new 01A sheet? Quote
sketchley Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 (edited) RM++ Project: Timeline TF 05A: The Dispute Surrounding "Galactic Hegemony": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRtimeline/MCRtimeline.php - The first RM fills in some much needed backstory on the L.A.I. Co.. The other RM provides a lot of food for thought on the relationship of a private military company and the government/military. Though, I'm not sure if throwing around the idea that S.M.S.'s actions are treason are entirely valid... at least the RM provides reasons why the Frontier Fleet effectively ignored them when they left. sketchley Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 RM++ Project Macross 7 Episodes: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#M7 Episode: 7 52A & B: Encore "The Strongest Woman's Fleet" - some interesting points raised in the commentary. On the other hand, while two of the topics clarify that the character/mecha designs come from the movie and the story comes from the TV series, it doesn't go any further than that. Frustrated! The section on the Quadoran series seems like filler to me... Episode: 7 53A & B: Theatrical Macross 7: The Galaxy Is Calling Me! - just as interesting a commentary. The first topic does add to things (or at least spells out what one can infer happened in SDFM/DYRL) and provides an interesting overview of speaker units in Macross in general. The other topic, sadly, comes up short - avoiding answering questions like what happened to Barugo after he lost his body and before he was resurrected? Quote
sketchley Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 RM++ Project: Mechanic: F NUNS 03B: VF-171EX Nightmare Plus EX: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#MF - a nice, in-depth look at the General Craft and the RVF-171 variants. In addition to loads of new info, one of the biggest head scratchers in Macross F has been clarified: the "Anti-Vajra MDE Particle Anti-Gravity Gun" is actually supposed to be the "Anti-Vajra MDE Heavy Quantum Reaction Gun"! Makes a LOT more sense. Alas, the editors didn't pick up on that before they published the 03A sheet... Quote
sketchley Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Just picked up #80 and, it blew my socks off. No, not the content (nothing really new), but how they handled the corrections: 1 reprinted foldout page (yawn) and 2 (!) pages of correction STICKERS. Yes, stickers. It certainly beats what we got last time: a single page on the inside back cover of text revisions (which, laughably, this issue also has! ). Quote
sketchley Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 RM++ Project: M7 Episodes!: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#M7 7 00C: Macross 7 Eyecatches - although a collection of Eyecatches is nice, what puts the icing on this case are the brief descriptions of the Macross 7 Plus episodes. 7 00D: Macross 7 List Of Mechanic/Character In Each Episode. - ... Mechanic: Ai Zentraadi 02A: Zentraadi Military Vessels: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#DYRL - so THAT'S what happened to Bodoruza's fortress. It's a shame that it wasn't made clearer in the movie (or at least the dubs/subs I've seen). Quote

No kidding, those two full pages of stickerrata is going to take some time to apply. Seeing how they extended the run to 81 to include the indices, couldn't they have ordered a run of errataed only sheets? Ugh. Quote
nexxstrait Posted July 30, 2014 Author Posted July 30, 2014 What double sheet gets reprinted in issue #80? And do the characters from VFX2 (Aegis & Co.) get a page in the last four issues (still waiting for mine to arrive)? Quote
sketchley Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 RM++ Project: Mechanic: M UN 01E: SDF-1 Macross: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#SDFM - most interesting is that the original 01D sheet was expanded into two. The biggest difference being the enlarged artwork and a few more captions. Of course the two new RM's are good reads, too. Character: Ai Citizen 01C: Lynn Minmei: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#DYRL - I'm still fascinated with the changed relationship between Lynn Minmei and Lynn Kaifun. It's almost like a mirror universe. The RM herein adds to that dynamic, adding some insight into why and how he ended up on the SDF-1. Quote

sketchley Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 EDIT: Nevermind! I was asking about a release date but I just noticed the 2014/8/19 right there in plain English! So nothing to see here, move along! Technically it's today (2014.08.05) and what's on the cover is the shelf date (don't ask why they're different in Japan). On that note, #81 is unlike the other 80 issues: it's a properly bound book (or Mook as they like to say). Which is probably handier that way. Quote

Production Data: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#FB7 - this sheet was full of "meh" for me. Hopefully it's more than that for at least some of you. No new images or sheets I presume, only indexes, right? I finally completed my collection (1-80) and I'd hate to have lost some content. It's a book. So no sheets to be separated and filed in the binders. A brief list of the contents can be seen here: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRseriesguide/MCRseriesguide.php#81 No new images as far as I can tell, but it does have a bunch of cropped and/or resized art interspersed. Most interesting is that for the characters and mechanic sections, they have pretty much everything that was pictured (and then some) - even the stuff in the extra reports and mechanics that appeared on the character sheets get their own entries! (and vice versa). Though, it gets kind of ridiculous for the mechanics that appeared in multiple series and were printed on multiple sheets. E.g.: the SDF-1 has 9 entries - 5 for SDFM, 3 for DYRL, and 1 for MII. Quote
sketchley Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 RM++ Project: Timeline TF 06A: The Decisive Battle With The Vajra: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRtimeline/MCRtimeline.php - some interesting things are mentioned, not the least of which is the fate of the protagonists and the Macross Frontier Fleet! ... and here ends the RM++ Project. (That said, I still have about a dozen pages I want to complete translate on the desk... but it's nice to say that I'm done with all those RMs!) Quote

Mechanic: Other 07A: Pheyos Valkyrie / Quadoran-Nona / Gujaguravan Va / Roqual / Vandal: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#Other - the descriptions of the vehicles leaves a lot of things to be desired, but I'm satisfied with how they describe what the Milky Dolls were formed to do (the Glossary Sheet (if memory serves) implies that they are able to communicate across space and time, whereas this sheet more strongly implies that they are investigating it [i don't want to even start thinking about how many paradoxes that would create!]). I can also see that the ideas behind the Milky Dolls were the seeds for the Vajra's Fold Network's real time communication. Quote
