man P-Bandai US site is so behind. They don't even have the new Stormbringer variant up yet for Preorder so might be a while before the new MG AOZ stuff shows up there

Agreed, that new Hazel already sold out of the 1st shipment  2nd batch is now scheduled for February, I might just bite the bullet and order from Japan.

They’re getting faster with some stuff now.

True, that prototype Dom in the Robot Spirits line went up the same day on P-Bandai US as Japan. The RS line must be selling well state side.

If I didn't already have an order for the MG via proxy I'd grab one. Wasn't sure if it would end up on the US site or not.

Pretty sure you can still order via a proxy as needed. I've got mine coming through FromJapan.

https://p-bandai.jp/item/item-1000147800/ still has slots open for second shipment (January).

Tyty... I can probably hold off. I've acquired a pretty hefty backlog the last two years... lol. XD

Holy crap, that went fast. I considered getting a second stormbringer if it came to the US site.

Yuppers! I was considering it if it was still open sometime in oct/nov, but oh wells.

Finished putting together my Haze'n-Thley II yesterday. The box says its a gundam but I am not too sure.:p I was a fun build but definitely needs some paint to bring out the details. There really aren't any seam lines though, most are hidden as panel lines.

Is there a difference between the Sandrock and Kai other than the machine gun?

Also, boo misleading promo picture, I was really hoping the kit would include a Leo as well. Boo!

Supposedly the Kai has thrusters in various places, like shoulders, legs, and side-skirts.

Nice work as always, anubis. Out of everything, it's always your work on the tiny tiny figures that impresses the most.

Took another look at the Mercurius/Vayeate page, and it looks like there's some sort of preorder campaign going on; can anyone confirm? Seems to me Bandai are reissuing a whole raft of Leo/Maganac kits. If you order the Sandrock AND MnV AND one of the others, they'll throw in a "triple stand" action base. Dunno if this is limited only to P-Bandai Japan or if @BluefinBrands/PB USA will be getting in on this, too.

Kits being reissued:

BBTS has pre-orders up for the HG Leo and Maganac re-releases. They are kinda expensive for an HG kit but an easy pre-order if you are looking for one.

Common question, but will ask again since availability/production of what's out there changes so frequently:

Suggestions for a cheap spray-can flat-coat?  My best model ever was my MG Wing, but as I obsessively made it DEAD flat in every nook and cranny, that meant I did a full 3D-spraying of each piece of armor separately.  And heavily. That was like, 3 cans of Tamiya TS-80.   I don't want to spend/waste that much ever again, and I think Epyon would require even more spraying due to so many angles/separate pieces.    (mist coats of TS-80 behave very differently than heavy coats, I found--heavy ones actually have a much more even, and flatter, final dried finish)

So, I'm looking for a "cheaper" way to get a dead-flat finish on MG Epyon (and my next Zaku).   And I am leaning a bit towards spraying sub-assemblies, rather than every piece separately this time.

I recommend using Testors dullcote or Model Master flat coat. Both can be found at local hobby shops and should be cheaper than Tamiya. You might end up using 3 cans depending on the number of coats but both have given me smooth finishes. And I usually topcoat in sub-assemblies and haven't had any problems. It is alot faster than doing individual pieces.

Hope that helps.

Your builds are great as usual. I'm especially impressed with you painted pilot figures. Fantastic!

Thank you! Painting the pilot figs is one of my favorite parts of the build although it usually ends up delaying everything because its the very last thing I do.

Spraying sub-assemblies would definitely save you some of the flat coat. Just be sure to bend the joints after the the first coat to get coverage on the entire joint. When I used to use the cans I usually went through a can per kit. Also I dont think you need to spray a really heavy coat of flat finish, unlike gloss I found that flat doesnt need much to dull the finish.

Testors isn't that good in my experience (and it yellows, my Trek ships can attest to that), and I was thinking even cheaper---like one of the "craft-y" versions that Rustoleum/Krylon make, that you'll find at Hobby Lobby or Michaels.  They're 2-3x the size of a Tamiya/Testors can.  There's just SO many "clear acrylic matte sprays" etc out there, that it'd cost even more just to try them all...

Model master has a lacquer dull coat that’s easy to find. Tamiya has one as well. I’m curious about the SMS one, but I’m not sure if it has a can.

Posted (edited)

I've been impressed with the Vallejo acrylic spray paints that act as a primer but still come in a nice range of colours and have had good results with their matt top coat.  Pricewise (where I live anyway) much more cost effective too as ~$22 for a 400ml can vs ~$12 for 100ml of Tamiya / Mr Hobby.

ETA downside seems to be availablity compared to Tamiya / Mr Hobby... this may be due like so many other things atm to Covid...

I just resolved not to get gunpla anymore this year. This is so tempting

We'll see if shipping normalizes (and I change my mind). I fear more shipping backlogs as I assume people will be ordering more online than going into stores for Christmas--and this backlog might continue until next year.

There are some wild variations of the design out there in the garage kit market, but that is the most interesting plastic kit yet IMO. The RG line's hyper detail approach works better on the mobile armor dimensions of the Zeong than on the normal Mobile Suits.
