Perfect Grade Perfect Strike.

This thing is nuts. Sooooooooo much stuff going on. Very cool mode. Fiddly and very fragile though. And HUGE. Posed like this it’s 21” tall, 15.5” wide and 13.5” deep. I need to do some serious moving around so to get it in a case with good lighting. I feel horrible having it out in the “atmosphere”. It’s too nice.

Sorry for the crappy lit pics. It needs light to see all the paint details. I don’t have anything with enough light that is big enough right now. And I’m worn out from putting this thing together and posing it.

I didn’t realize the orange parts on the shield were metallic until those later pictures. They reflect the light at odd angles.

Personally I’d be worried about knocking that thing over. Maybe ding a large case to keep those pointy bits from snagging anything.

That's the top of a Detolf. I could maybe hit it with my head....if I tried to.:D

It's going in one of my big cases soon. I have another coming and a "big move" going on as far as displays go in the next few weeks.:good:

Great job, and great poses.  The Freedom is such an iconic design at this point.

Thanks! I tried to get as many of the iconic Freedom poses as I could. The neck articulation is very limited so I couldn't get them exactly as on screen :(

It's too bad the Archangel Bridge base kit that is coming out is 1/144, that is the most iconic pose of the Freedom.  Did you do/plan to do a Justice to go with the freedom?

Yup! My plan is to have it done early next year to finish this group of X Frame suits.

Got a model-finding query for the experts here.
Does anyone have any idea where one might find non-blind purchase options for the old (series 1) Gundam Mini Kit Collections?  I'm really trying to get the Ra Cailum kit, but everything on Ebay was blind buy, and didn't see a thing on Y!Japan...
I figure someone here might have a lead I hadn't thought about.

This box:

with this kit:

Appreciate any help...I'm close to buying a set of 12 boxes in the hopes of getting one...and that's just stupid.

Can't help you there, sorry, but speaking of the Ra Cailum, I happened upon this at Amiami. It might be a decent alternative, though it is a pretty $150 or so pre-shipping.

Those are going for $150+ now?  Yikes.
I want these trading kits because they are small, and I might be able to use it in a wargame.  The Cosmo Fleet one is...too expensive.
Why does Bandai hate Gundam spaceships so much?

Some of this trading kits are tough to get the one thing you really want. The sellers often don’t want to open them for collector values and others are trying to dump their entire stock and only sell the full case. You could try eBay, and see if any seller has some opened.

Before my daughter was born I was pretty heavy into Gunpla, but I got out of it because I didn't really have the time to work on a model while taking care of a baby.  And after I moved I used the Detolfs I'd had my models in to display Transformers instead.  My models are still in boxes, and I'm not even sure some of the more delicate RGs even survived the move.

Well, after watching Gundam Build Real on the Gundam.info YouTube channel I kind of got an itch to build a Gunpla kit, and I happened to recall that Target has them with their collectibles.  I didn't really want to do another RG, as they're a bit time consuming and a tad more delicate.  I briefly considered building the HG RX-78 and/or the HG Char's Zaku, but I'd built both of the RGs and I think I might have actually already done that RX-78.

Then I noticed that they have a new line, Entry Grade, for beginners.  While I'm not really a novice to Gunpla, I saw this one specific one, RX-78-2[US] Gundam American Type.

Pros- It's a quick build.  Only took about an hour or so.  Good for easing back into the hobby.
-1/144 scale means it's fine keeping with HG or RG kits.
-Even without paint, the kit does a good job getting parts in the right colors.  No stickers needed for the eyes, the forehead sensor, the chin, the V on his pelvis, etc.
-'Murica!
-Not as simplified from an HG as I feared.

Cons- No sticker for the scope of the rifle.
-Beam sabers for the backpack, but no blade effect parts.
-No polycaps. The joint system here isn't as effective, and I've had trouble getting the range I'd like on some of the ball joints without them popping off.

Mixed-
-Only one set of hands. They hold the shield and rifle well, and even the beam sabers, and look ok empty.  I think it's fine. But if you're used to more expressive hands, or hands purpose-made for weapons, your outta luck.

Overall, I think if you're used to building more advanced kits like MG or RGs then the Entry Grade is probably going to be a bit "baby's first Gunpla".  But it's not a huge step backward from HGs, it's a mere $10, and I'm always down for seeing the classic RX-78 with new color schemes.

The beyond global version is really good if you don’t want to paint or get rid of seams. Just a little panel lining would bring it out

I'll keep it in mind.

A bunch of kits went up on the U.S. p-Bandai site. The only one I wanted though is the Efreet Jaeger. Not like I really need another efreet. I hate the color, but love the sniper. I’ll have to figure out a color that will look cool. Maybe a dark green with instead of the purple

Did you check Mercari Japan ? They have a lot of great deals as well as some rare odd finds.

So many GM's!

The Feddies may have been slow out of the gate, but they've definitely got the best Mobile Suits! :D

Just not the best pilots.

Unfortunately, I only build 1:100 scale or larger, and Master Grade GM kits are mostly P-Bandai exclusives.  Damned expensive to acquire on the secondary market. :vava:

Worse still is the dearth of Guncannon variants; neither the RCX-76 Guncannon (Origin), the RX-77D Mass Production Guncannon (0080), nor the GM Cannon II (0083) have ever been produced as MG kits. :(
