No mention of Escaflowne. That is some serious Kick Ass mecha movie with a Rare Great Story behind it.

I watched it and the movie version a little while back, not bad, not exactly great, but worth the time watching.

Your nearly at the point where the show grabbed my attention and never let go, you will know exactly which episode I'm talking about after you see it.

I'm guessing episode 8? Just watched it this morning. <shyamalan> What a twist! </shyamalan>

Although get this: This episode is skipped in Netflix's Instant Watch! Totally got spoiled within seconds of the opening credits of Episode "8" er 9... Fargin Iceholes.

I feel like I was watching Macross and just skipped

"Pineapple Salad."

Yup - that would be the first one... Don't worry, there are more - just DON'T pass by any more episodes!

Hopefully no more hiccups. There seem to be A LOT of complaints about this on the series' page @ Netflix. The sequence actually goes: ...6,7,9,9,10...

The tricky part now is to keep myself from marathonning. I've also got M7 I'm watching on Fridays, the Dr Who pilot, freelance work and a baby to take care of too! Darn addictive anime. Somewhere in there I've gotta get back to work on my Northampton.

I've been finding out myself how hard it is to juggle work, a baby and an anime addiction...It's not easy, but I found a solution....Sleep less:D

At least she doesn't seem interested in b/w dr who. Bright colorful cartoons are a different matter. Just got the iPhone app for netflix, which makes it easier. Nap times are for working though.

I know I have watched too much Gundam when I saw the pale green Northern Lights in the Alaskan night sky and the thought of GN particles from a GN Drive came to my mind. :D

Finished Code Geass R2. Highly entertaining stuff and loved the ending which I think was the right way to go. But I don't think it's as good as the first season. The plot is not as well crafted and there some pretty big holes. I also think that a series that had a highly original premise then went through some stuff that's already been done before

like for example the whole Human instrumentality like scenario of Charles and Marianne

.

Although I enjoyed myself with R2 and can gladly recommend, I really cannot understand how it's ranked no.4 in ANN. I mean higher than Eva 2.0, Cowboy Bebop, Nausicaa or Millenium Actress? Really?

Just finished the 1s movie for Break Blade/Broken Blade. Really entertaining stuff! If you liked Escaflowne, BB will be for you.

In BB everyone can use "magic" which is the ability to levitate/move a crystal called quartz, which is used in everything from their guns, machines, transportation and of course, mecha. Then we have our hapless protagonist who is a freak of nature who can't use magic for some reason. Then of course his country gets attacked by some neighbouring country's superior spec-ops mecha and he gets thrown into some ancient junk mecha which he , surpise surprise, only he can pilot. The junk mecha seems to be using electronics from this era, and from a time when its pilot didn't need magic to use it.

There are various clues thrown in the 1s movie hinting that the world might be

earth post alien invasion and the magic users are the aliens

which makes this a very promising show to follow. :D Can't wait for the next episode/movie.

Just finished Casshern Sins. I didn't quite ilke it as much as I thought I would, something about the second half of the series just didn't sit right. It almost seems like someone major who worked on the scenario left, and someone else took over who didn't quite understand where things were originally going. But regardless, was still a cool show, and if nothing else, very stylish.

I couldn't go on after 5 eps. Too bleak, depressing, and slow for my tastes.

I see that Amagami SS has decided to go with the sarcastic narrator approach to storytelling... still not as good as Kuroko narrating Okami though.

Finished Bubblegum Crisis 2040. Moving on to Blue Gender which has a Mospeada like feel to it.

Just caught this as well, great show thanks for introducing it. Liked the mecha designs and the tech. :)

I just found a fansub group that is doing SPT Layzner. Watched the first 2 eps and it is a really cool show. I especially like the mecha designs.

Speaking of escaflowne, there's this new similar-themed movie anime series called Break Blade. I'll try to catch it this weekend.

I just saw the first episode. I must say I like it. I like the concept that everyone is special and the hero is the unspecial one. Thats a good twist already

BTW whats the name of the anime with the ballerina girl with the transforming motorcycle. Is it any good?

watched Voices of a Distant Star (Hoshi ni Koe) yesterday. Very nice. A short viewing experience, but emotionally and visually stunning, nonetheless.

The premise is interesting, but very simple actually. I read that the OAV was even produced independently by its writer/creator. amazing.

Others:

Up to ep 28 of my MS Gundam viewing.

Watched the first episode of Baccano (very interesting!)

First 2 episodes of Maid-Sama (not as funny as i hoped)

Rideback? Yeah it's pretty decent. More drama/political thriller than mecha action though but it's worth picking up.

Which makes him special in itself  Rideback's pretty good, but I heard it deviated somewhat from the manga. I liked the story it tell's from Rin's side but the whole terrorist angle thing was kinda iffy. Its not like a buncha ride armours could turn the tide of a war or anything, i felt.

Voices was what made Makoto Shinkai famous and opened him up to produce feature length anime movies. Yes Voices was a one man show done on his iMac G4. Impressive actually.

Baccano was awesome.

You should watch 5cm per second then too, it's also by Makoto Shinkai. It is basically the same premise, just not scifi but equally emotionally stunning. Many of his works share a common theme of separation and distance.

First watch Gunbuster Which is awesome and you get a little lesson in Astro Physics. Then watch Diebuster and its a nice emotional ending to the series

No, I was asking if he'd seen Gunbuster since Voices seemed new to him.

omg I totally forgot about that part hahaha

The end of the last episode was a little strange (groping etc.) Are those kids together now? I guess I'll find out next week.

Okay... I have a question.

Has anyone out there (apart from Saraphys) been following a series called Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari? I'm told it goes by the name of Saint Knight's Tale, and that it's supposed to be a spinoff of the Tenchi Muyo! OVA series in the same vein as Tenchi Muyo! GXP. Is this show actually worth a look?

No, I was asking if he'd seen Gunbuster since Voices seemed new to him.

Hmm, yes I've seen Gunbuster, and it's actually the first show that came to mind while I was watching Voices. But I was actually referring to the love-story angle and the real-time communication between the couple. Of course, Gunbuster showed the effects of relativistic travel, but the premise in Voices is to see two people actually trying to remain in touch throughout the heroine's journey. Far as I can remember, Noriko and her childhood friend didn't keep in touch all the while she was in space.

So yes, while I have seen Gunbuster, Voices still felt new to me, because it explored a different aspect of the whole space battle/invasion plotline. The fact that the space-battle aspect of Voices was taken almost completely from Gunbuster didn't prevent me from appreciating Voices for what it was - a good love story.

Its basically a sci-fi story about long distance relationships, traversing time and space.

Anyway Shinkai's movies have this similar theme due to his experiences of LDR with his gf, now wife.
