Posse Comitatus Posted November 18, 2003 Posted November 18, 2003 Hey Guys, My website is looking to take pictures of mecha with different futuristic backgrounds behind them. We have tried looking into train models, but we were unable to find any that got past the 1950's in terms of looks. Any ideas of where we can find either 1) futuristic looking building models, or 2) photograph backdrops that could be used instead. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Quote
Commander McBride Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 Try Kato's model train buildings. They have tons of stuff, from N scale skyscrapers (pretty good for 1/144 scale kits) to HO scale train stations (good for 1/72 - 1/100 kits), all modern Japanese, perfect for mecha models. Quote
Grayson72 Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 (edited) Here's the link, they don't have any HO structures I could see. www.katousa.com Edited November 19, 2003 by Grayson72 Quote

Grayson72 Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 Any other ideas for modern buildings in HO scale? or better yet 1/72 scale. Seems silly all these train Mfg's sell modern trains but no modern accessories. Quote
Posse Comitatus Posted November 25, 2003 Author Posted November 25, 2003 Thanks for the help, everyone. Does anyone have any experience using backdrops or the like for photographs? Does anyone know of any good places to try to obtain such a thing? Thanks in advance. Quote
Neova Posted November 30, 2003 Posted November 30, 2003 (edited) If you can get by with fake 3D, you can always search for pictures on the net, re-size to scale, print, paste onto 10mm or half in thick foam poster boards and cut out the prominent pieces such as buildings, trees, cars, pedistrians, moons, planets and etc... Re-arrange the layers so background is in the back, foreground items on top, and paste it back together. For ground items such as cars, park benches and trees, you can make paper / cardboard / foam stands (touch up and paint around the edges) and have your mechs / models in and between layers to give that 3d look. From 10 feet away, it looks pretty good. Or you can try toy stores and check out the action figure and doll isles. They sometimes have props that are suitable if you give them a quick make over.
