boinger Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I was just browsing around looking at what Amazon has for Macross. And then I found this Macross Plus (Paperback)by Frederic P. Miller (Author), Agnes F. Vandome (Author), John McBrewster (Author). It's in english and goes for $100+ US! The publisher is Alphascript Publishing and the book came out in December 2009. It's odd that I never saw anything on Macrossworld about this book. I looked at Frederic P. Miller and found he also wrote a book on Dental Caries. So, I phoned Amazon's customer service to find out if this is a real book. The service rep. lady told me that this book's information was given to Amazon by Alphascript publishing, so it has to be a real book. Not that I was going to buy this book, but I was just wondering if anybody has ever seen this book before?
sketchley Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Interesting. In a kind of way. Followed by when the attached cover has "High Quality Content by Wikipedia Articles!" Which is followed by when I checked out the publisher's homepage: http://www.alphascript-publishing.com/inde...v&nav=10048 Q: …do all of Alphascript’s books take their content from Wikipedia? Alphascript: Yes, since we believe that the quality of the Wikipedia-articles is so good that it is worthwhile creating books with them. Wikipedia themselves give an impulse for this. The articles published on their sites are free in every respect and without any limitations as to further use. All authors participating in texts of Wikipedia know this or should at least know it. .... so, it begs the question: why should someone pay for something they can get for free? (Well, for the cost of an internet connection. Which appears to be what's needed to even by these publications )
azrael Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 So they're basically copy-pasting from Wikipedia......
Freiflug88 Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 It's in english and goes for $100+ US! Where do you get that figure? Amazon tells me its only $55.82 with Super Free Shipping.
Gubaba Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Where do you get that figure? Amazon tells me its only $55.82 with Super Free Shipping. Those are CANADIAN dollars.
boinger Posted March 2, 2010 Author Posted March 2, 2010 There's a "used" copy of this copy and paste book on Amazon that's being sold for $126.85 Canadian. That's why I wrote $100+. Just ridiculous! Maybe, someone could write a "review" of this "book" as a warning not to buy. Seems to be more effort than it's worth.
sketchley Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Those are CANADIAN dollars. Grr... $55.82 USD = $57.650 CAD. $100 Fiji Dollars sounds more like.
Gubaba Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Grr... $55.82 USD = $57.650 CAD. $100 Fiji Dollars sounds more like. Is it really that close now? Oh wait...it used to be that Canadian dollars were, like 2/3 of US dollars... Oops, forget I said anything.
sketchley Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 scroll down to chart: http://ca.finance.yahoo.com/currency/conve...;amt=1&t=5y In '08 it was valued higher than the USD.

I know...I was just flashing back to books I got that would be $10.00 USD, but would always say "$15.00 Can." But that was a while ago. Chalk it up to a brain fart.

Then again maybe the new editions are worth less because they were published with more BS from Wikipedia? On that note are their any books for that other series? I am curious if its too late to edit its wiki before it gets published into a book.
David Hingtgen Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Said company has over 14,000 books available now. Ironically, the first hit at the US version of Amazon is their "book" on 4chan... http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url...deric+P.+Miller
Vepariga Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 after looking at that ,can i just say 'bluh' and lol?
David Hingtgen Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I'm closing this thread as "a very expensive hardcopy of the wikipedia article" really doesn't merit any more discussion.
