Grayson72 Posted November 18, 2003 Posted November 18, 2003 Any thoughts on how this guy articulated the fingers on this Spartan, I think it looks pretty sweet and would like to recreate it. Quote

NERV Posted November 18, 2003 Posted November 18, 2003 they dont look very articulated to me, they just look seperated Quote
Myersjessee Posted November 18, 2003 Posted November 18, 2003 Perhaps stolen from a Gundam? I don't know which, but some of the 1/60's and 1/100's have pretty articulated fingers...I think their are option kits as well you could get with just the hands...(but sorry, I don't know which ones.... ) Gundam fans?? neptunesurvey Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 I've seen people use copper wire and styrene rods to make articulated fingers. I've been thinking about trying that on my Hasegawa battroid kit. Quote
yellowlightman Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 Is that the toy or one of the models? Quote
Myersjessee Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 they look a lot like the Gundam Sazabi or Wave Rider fingers I have seen...but I don't have the model to compare size... Quote
Grayson72 Posted November 19, 2003 Author Posted November 19, 2003 They're definately articulated cuz in the other pics they fingers are in different positions. Quote
robokochan Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 I have an old Macross Model book that shows you how to do it. Basically you cut all of the front fingers off and replace them with styrene as needed. In the book it looks as though they used wire or string. But it was the Spartan that they did. I imagine you could use one of the Gundam MG kits to do it and Wave also make a lot of hand parts. Do you have a link to the site where you saw the pics? Rob MN Quote
tom64ss Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 They're definitely articulated Spartan Link http://www.dsnw.ne.jp/~comet/model/spartan.html Modeler's Link http://www.dsnw.ne.jp/~comet/modeler.html Thanks for pointing this out Shawn, this guy's Amazing. Quote
NERV Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 look at the side of the finger there is not hinge, there may be some articulation at the base but they obviously cant flex Quote
Myersjessee Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 I think the hinge is inside the finger (not visible from the side) The pieces are cast to fit together with one like this L_I I I I I and one like this _L I I I I but they would not be able to flex to much without hitting each other..still cool. the white drew carey Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 One issue I have about that kit is that the missile hatch doesn't completely clear the path of the top-most missiles... Poor, poor missile hatch... Quote

They don't look any different in either picture. The fingers themselves seem to still be in the same position. Quote
pfunk Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 One issue I have about that kit is that the missile hatch doesn't completely clear the path of the top-most missiles... Poor, poor missile hatch... Yeah, they have the same problem on the toys also, even with the tomahawk Quote

tetsujin Posted November 20, 2003 Posted November 20, 2003 One issue I have about that kit is that the missile hatch doesn't completely clear the path of the top-most missiles... Poor, poor missile hatch... Yeah, they have the same problem on the toys also, even with the tomahawk The missiles fire from the bottom. As missiles at the bottom fire out, the ones above it move down. I think you can actually see that on the Tomahawk in the "Daedalus Attack" episode. And, no, the fingers don't look hinged to me either. Quote
agass4u Posted November 20, 2003 Posted November 20, 2003 B-Club does sell individual articulated hands for gundam models. He may have used a set of those. I am sure he had to modify them somewhat at least to get the right shape. Quote
NERV Posted November 20, 2003 Posted November 20, 2003 the fingers are obviously not articulated, case closed Quote
