I apologize in advance if this thread exists elsewhere.

Has anyone heard the rumors of an Alien prequel based on Ridleys Scott's "Space Jockey"?

One weird thing is that I thot that the "space jockey" was a predator because I was one of the few who watched AvP Requiem and the seat that the predator used to scan the distress call looked exactly like the chair in the Space Jockey's ship.

Well,I think the Aliens vs Predator games might actually beat the movies to that punch in revealing who and or what the Space Jockey is <img src="http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Some say that the prequel will kill the Alien franchise because.I hope not.,

I heard about months ago, I was going to the store and heard on the radio Ridley was making this prequel. Glad to see its definitely official and some details are out about it.

Will be the 1st ALIEN film without Ripley in it. I hope that H. R. Giger will still do any of the Alien designs.

same here, that man is one of my favorite artists and one of my biggest inspirations

it would suck not having his designs in the prequel.

not to mention the Xenomorph is by far one of the coolest alien designs I've ever seen.

Thanks for that link HP,

I was trying to surf the web on my PS3 and all I kept getting were websites already talking about it.

Seems I made a mistake on the Space Jockey being a predator because I just youtubed a scene and the Space Jockey was way too big.

What would be sad if Ridley made the Aliens a "created" species instead of a natural being.Atleast Ridley is the one to fix the damage that was done to Aliens in that movie AvP Requiem.

And according to a website I read recently is that the children were Ridley's that were climbing around the Space Jockey.

here's a nice illustration of it by Giger

kinda looks like an alien warrior of some type, but I could be wrong.

Dang it,

I lost a link to a part where either Ridley or another person that the story is/was going to be based on the Space Jockey race being who takes over planets with Alien infestations and then uses an "antidote" on the Aliens (or Xenos,I hate that word) then assimulates the planets for them but on that particular deralict ship,a face hugger gets that pilot. Maybe we can see what type of Alien emerged from the SJ.

I am glad I am not a writer because I would make the prequel based that the SJ was a empathetic being who had sympathy on the Xenos and tried to rescue them from the Predators but I would have no idea why an egg would hatch if nothing got its attention. But it could fit since the deralict looked like a queen hive.

Or make them to be victims of a predator hunt game gone bad.

I better stick to keeping it in my head huh?

Depends if they keep the old Dark Horse idea.

The Aliens:earthwar series was fun. unfortunatly rendered un-cannon by aliens 3 but oh well.

Can't have everything

Some of those comics were "whack" because I seen some that killed all my respect for Alien comics from DH,,Those comics were:

Batman vs Aliens

Superman vs Aliens

And one other that was corny so I have not touched a DH comic on Aliens since early 90's

But let us all hope they not use too many CGs either because it would kill the feel.

Like aliens vs predator vs the terminator? No I'm not making this up either...

Generally speaking, i love Ridley Scott movies. He's one of the best visual directors around today. He basically created the 'cyber punk' look in Blade Runner, gave us the super-gritty used universe look of Alien, and Gladiator was just plain awe-inspiring.

The Alien franchise has been going downhill since the 4th film to the lowest of the low in the recent AvP sequel. I really do hope Mr. Scott can resurrect the franchise and bring it back to the quality of the first 3 films (and while he's at it, retcon the AvP movies out of existence)

It would also be pretty interesting, that if this movie is about the space jockey, to do it without human characters altogether. The first AvP film would've been so much better without the human characters completely (I couldn't help, but laugh at the absurd scene where the Predator makes a spear and shield out of the alien corpse for the girl...so stupid)

I found a review of the "Alien" novel had the most interesting take on the Space Jockey and origin of the Alien. Unlike the "Alien" bomber (Scott) and "Alien" collector (Cameron), the novel has the Space Jockey simply landing (or crash landing) on a pyramid-like structure on LV-426, and getting infected by an Alien after exploring the chamber below.

The pyramid itself was built by a race of aliens to protect their offspring as a great cataclysm happened, and all but the eggs were killed off.

Sadly, I can't find the article on the net right now...

personally I like it better where you don't know anything about who/what the space jockey is and why his ship is full of alien eggs. I like not knowing anything outside of the here and now, it adds to the isolated feeling of the movie.

I don't really need to know where the aliens come from just like I don't need to know how the thing got frozen in Antarctica. It kind of ruins a movie when they start watering it down with lots of sequels and prequels and other expanded universe crap, just look at the matrix.

I agree with you. And one of the nice things about the Alien is that there is no agreement amongst the various creators. Though, if this movie comes to pass, an origin will be forced on us. Luckily, we'll be able to ignore it. Just like we can ignore Alien3. Unless, of course, if we want to enjoy Alien Resurrection. Then we're forced to accept the fates of Newt and Hicks. >.<

Anyhow, the Matrix? Nah, "2010" is the ultimate in sequels that ruins the original (in this case, "2001: A Space Odyssey").

The Space Jockey was huge IIRC and way too big to be a normal Predator.

Most of the allure of the Space Jockey is the mystery... they'll most likely ruin it by revealing too much... still Ridley doing another horror/suspense Alien instead of an action yarn? Could be good.

Oh well, if nothing else I suppose Hollywood is at least consistent in its inability to spot a bad idea no matter how many times it's presented. That's got to be worth something, right?

Honestly... why do they even try? At no point has shaking down a popular sci-fi franchise for prequels ever been a good idea or produced a film/series that was better than mediocre. It didn't work for Star Wars. It didn't work for Star Trek. It didn't work for Dune. It didn't even work for Macross. Why the hell would they think it would work for Alien? If they wanted to offend the fans and make a genuinely bad movie at the same time, why not just do a remake of the original and attach Uwe Boll to direct, and populate it with a nightmare cast of Jennifer Aniston (Ripley), Eddie Murphy (Parker), John Heder (Dallas), Ellen Degeneres (Lambert), Jack Black (Ash), Keanu Reeves (Kane), and Gordon Woolvett (Brett)... with an alien portrayed (and voiced) by Ahmed Best. To go for broke, they could even get Dweezil Zappa and Giorgio Moroder to rework the original score.

(if your mind's eye hasn't started weeping blood, I haven't done my job)

I doubt it will kill the Alien franchise... but it might cripple it for a while.

Re: Alien Prequil -

To paraphrase Ash:

What's the point? ... I mean by the...I mean we'll know...by the time it takes to get there...we'll know if they've found something?

Translation:

Alien is an excellent movie on its' own merits. Leave it be.

Yeah it was huge. Imagine what the alien that burst out of the space jockey will be like. And wonder where it went.

2001 is better but I like 2010. They're both quite a bit dated in their portrayals of many things, of course. The Jaws guy was less wooden than that other cat, too.

Why o why does there have to be a "prequel" or "reload" for any successful film franchise???

Alien is a classic movie that cannot be improved upon. I hope Ridley Scott changes his mind about working on a prequel to irand gives us some other original material

I guess I don't understand how it's "worse" than the Matrix sequels when it followed the source material pretty well. Heck, it could be argued that 2010 followed the source material better than 2001 did.

2010 was merely an illustration to the narration. 2001 was a vision in itself that surpassed the source material.

Technically, it wasn't "source material." Kubrick and Clarke worked out the story together, then Kubrick did the film and Clarke did the book at the same time.

seriously if done right,(and in ridley's hands i have a bit of hope since it is after all his movie), it will be great, they dont even need to go straight into an origin story,I didnt hear anything that it was going to be about the xeno's origins, its a prequel yes,but that doesnt mean that all secrets will be revealed. I think ridley loved the mystery of the alien,so i guess he will continue to stick to that,if they origin in,they will only lightly tap on it. we can only wait and see,but seeing a pure alien film again on the big screen makes me happy enough.

Wasn't there a short story from Clarke first?
