Warmaker Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 That's all good, but I'm still content with this old bit of news regarding TOS uniforms. Yay! TOS era ROCKS! Quote
one_klump Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I think my biggest decision is to get either the Akira class or Steamrunner class for my escort... Quote
Fit For Natalie Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Too bad they didn't actually use the real Steamrunner class design in the game, and instead used some weird one which missed the point entirely about having that pod in the back of the ship between the nacelles. By moving the navigation deflector array to the front, the pod thing at the back now serves no visual purpose. Bad ship designer! BAD! Quote
Grand Admiral Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 They probably did that so the "scanner" effect would emanate from the same relative location no matter which combination of escort parts you use. Quote
Ghost Train Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 EVE recently nabbed the 2009 Game of the Year award from MMORPG.com. (Beating WoW). Src Gamers have spoken: complexity and difficulty over cookie cutter generic pve content. I hope next year, STO gives it a run for its money . Quote

Not an EVE player myself, but it's good to see a non-generic MMO with some depth get good recognition. Quote
one_klump Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 (edited) I played EVE for about 2 weeks, and I really have to say, if you are not connected to someone higher up in the game, you are space dust. its like a LaborUnion in video game form. Also, just read some history about the Steamrunner and Akira class ships, and I really think that the Akira will be my baby. A fly through shuttlebay from which 40 Kaneda Class fighters could be launched. That's awesome. Edited January 29, 2010 by one_klump Quote

I think that's a mis-characterization of EVE's problems . No one I know started with a high-level buddy. For instance, you can solo most PvE missions to make money given the right skillset/ships. I admit that certain scenarios or ambitions require a group - like flying a Titan (the most powerful types of ships), but that really applies only to the elite 1% of players. Obviously some ships are more aligned towards squad level play, like logistic vessels which repair other ships.... it's like this, a healer character in any other MMO would typically not also be a combat specialist. However, would having an experienced buddy help you in learning the game be useful? Absolutely.... but in EVE you should always be wary of accepting help, as the gank is around the corner. Do you need it to have fun, be in-game wealthy, and build your own empire? No. But it's actually cool that the mechanics are a bit more complex and the learning curve steep - we want to discourage the WoW 12 year crowd from polluting our gaming pool (note this comment is not directed towards anyone ). The fact that EVE is still even around speakers way louder than some award. What it lacks in mass appeal it makes up for with a dedicated following. Quote
Uxi Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 That's where Galaxies had great potential in letting the clans and battlefields carry out the Galactic Civil War, or stay neutral in the fringe if they didn't care or didn't want to get involved. On top of the great player based economy and such. Instead they trashed what was good. Ah well. Quote
one_klump Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Bought the digital deluxe version over steam, gave me a key and I just patched the beta install. The bonus items are not active until tuesday tho Malcolm, USS Arcadea Quote
Warmaker Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Got a Lv6 Vulcan skipper: Lt.T'Pal, USS Commanche Which of course meant that I was eligible to roll a Klingon toon: Lv10 Klingon: Lt.K'nBek, IKS Vak'lhr Already had ample opportunity to PvP with fellow Klingons and leave a few burning "Fedbear" hulks behind Quote
Max Jenius Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 They could add a class similar to WoW's druid and make it a transformer! Quote

David Hingtgen Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I didn't follow through with exploring that chunk of dialogue because Tali specifically said not to, and I didn't want to jeopardize her chances. (though I was such a renegade in the end it didn't matter) Quote
kaiotheforsaken Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Well my tag for the game in live is the same as beta, Kastigar@Kastigar. Might be on as ME2 is working my last nerve right now. Quote
Vostok 7 Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 Got my Collectors Edition today. Yay!! Quote

(though I was such a renegade in the end it didn't matter) I LOVED the voice acting in that dialog. From Tali to the Admiral to ManShep, it all sold the humour and teeth-gnashing history of that name. So very awesome. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 It'll be a while until I get to it again. I'll just have to wait. (don't want it spoiled) Quote
eugimon Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Well, I'm happy to report that the team did a great job polishing up the game and getting it ready for prime time. There's some new explosion animations, sound effects, textures galore, missions are spruced up with more variety of opponents including science vessels. The game seems easier though. I haven't had my starter ship blow up once and I'm lvl 6 now. During the beta I think I blew up several dozen times by this point. Quote

one_klump Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Hit level 13 last night on my Tac toon, love flying my Escort, a Sabre with an Ushaan main hull. Where my Miranda was a mule, the Escort is a beast, the USS Gurren eats through other ships so quickly. Just have to keep an eye on my shields, cause she is a bit squishy in a furball. Can't wait for an Akira class at Commander, one of my favorite ship designs out of Star Trek. Malcolm@one.klump - I'm on most nights, give me a holler! Quote
Warmaker Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 LtCmdr (2) for my Klingon, sporting a Tier 2 Bird of Prey. Going traditional Dual Heavy Cannons to the front x2, Photons, and Disruptor Turret to the rear. Debating getting a Disruptor Beam for the rear for more damage and still decent arc. I'd like to experiment with Plasma Dbl Cannons x2 and Plasma Launcher (with High Yield) for my decloaking alpha strike, but I need serious points for that gear. The Tac Officer BOff has High Yield I (Lv9) and Cannon Rapid Fire I (Lv7). Thinking of tweaking the Engineer out of Hull Repair (which I'd miss alot) for Emergency Power to Engines to egress out of being focus fired by the Feds (Emerg.Power to Engines + Evasive Maneuvers). eugimon Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Well, graduated up to a proper cruiser, the NCC-92708 Fountain Valley, and mothballed the trusty Qwib-Qwib. Having two disrupter turret banks makes up for the fact that she turns like a beached whale. We should form our own MW fleet Quote
CoryHolmes Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 We should form our own MW fleet I second this for every MMO possible. EVE Online corps, TOR guilds, etc. Quote
Vostok 7 Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 I'm already in a fleet I have with another forum I'm active on. Is it possible to be in more than one fleet? Quote
one_klump Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 (edited) Just joined a random invite from The Armada fleet, nice people so far, nice to have someone non-retarded to chat with in the game. lvl 16 whoo hoo. Just finished the time travel mission with the Guardian of Forever. epic. Just thought about this, I bet I could create a macross type uniform for my crew to wear... multi colored pants ftw. CoryHolmes Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 nice to have someone non-retarded to chat with in the game. I thought that wasn't possible on the internet? Especially mulitplayer games... Quote
eugimon Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 (edited) getting cold call Fleet join requests seems to be the in thing edit: holy crap, I saw a few T4 ships out there today... 0_o Nothing like watching a galaxy class ship swoop in with 4 beams going popping quantum torpedoes and vaping that pesky cruiser you've been hammering on in one massive salvo.
