Excellent! While I hadn't played in awhile, and I wasn't planning on playing again until the Romulan expansion, I'm glad you told me about this. Between whatever bonuses I had, special events I'd played, and ships I'd bought, my main toon had gone Constitution, Constitution refit, Excelsior, Galaxy, and Sovereign, plus I'd done last year's anniversary mission to net an Odyssey. An Ambassador was the only "Enterprise" he didn't have, so he just completed the set! I'll probably run the mission with my alts tomorrow, although they're both too low to use it and one of them is supposed to be doing science ships and the other tacticals. (I really ought to buy two more slots so I can play the Klingon and Romulan campaigns).

You can run the mission on any ship you got, it wont go into combat. Your ship will end up turning into a freighter ship once you cross the anomaly into Tholian space. Once you complete the mission you'll be back in your original ship and get the hail for the points and ambassador ship.

That too was pretty much the only ship I didn't have that was Enterprise esque. But i sure wish I could make my Odyssey all invisible, I got my ass handed to me by the Cardassians today when I tried to continue the campaign.

Not sure how you're finding it, but after kitting out my Odyssey and trying it on a few missions, I went back to my Sovereign.

And yeah, I know that my alts can do the mission on any level and receive the ship, but it looks like they have to be a Commander to use it. Both of my alts are still LTs. My science toon will be a LT Commander soon, but my tactical toon is only a level 2. And even then, my Engineer toon flew cruisers, and I was planning on using science ships for my science toons and escorts for my research toon (and buy two more character slots so I can run a Klingon and a Romulan).

Meant to say invincible, stupid autocorrect.

I like the odyssey but seeing how I haven't faired that well in my missions I may go back to sovereign as well, or in some way upgrade that ship to a different styling. I was a little ass kicker with that ship. I think if anything I need to do serious upgrades on the consoles, I have a few lvl 11 consoles and some of the onboard systems on my odyssey are lvl 9s.

I think the problem with the Odyssey they gave you for free was that it had one fewer tactical console than the Sovereign. Even though my main toon is an engineer, I feel (I don't know if this has changed) that the more tactical consoles you have, the better.

Maybe if you bought the tactical Odyssey variant, it'd be better? But the ships in STO are so very overpriced...

I did buy a tactical. I didn't have the chance to get the free Odyssey class when that came out a few years ago. It's only been, I dunno less then a year since I started playing the game so it's been over 2 or more since the Odyssey came out?

I think my biggest issue is I just dunno what to customize my ships systems with. And when I wanna make sure it's all similar stuff or the right thing, I end up having to buy console equipment which means real money.

The Odyssey, the mission that introduced it, and the announcement that the Odyssey-class Enterprise-F were all part of the 2nd anniversary celebration, about a year ago.

Speaking of, that was around the last time I'd played. I'd just finished up the Borg chapter with my main, and I rolled up my science and tactical alts so that I could do the Odyssey mission with them, and I played my science alt a little. So the other day, I logged in with my main, and like you said I got hailed right away to go to the Azure Nebula. Ran through, got my reward, collected my Ambassador. Sweet.

Yesterday I logged in with my science alt. Nothing. Temporal Ambassador doesn't even show up as an available mission in her journal. I complete her current mission. She goes up to 10 (one more level and I can dump this stupid Miranda!). Still nothing. I'd read that, since they'd hired Denise Crosby to play Tasha Yar in the mission that they were making it permanent, that everyone can play and get the Tier 3 Ambassador, and that they were just taking away the Tier 5 Ambassador refit. Is that not correct? I hope she didn't miss it, because unlike my main, she might actually use it.

I might of heard that on the STO Facebook but I can't recall.

I logged in for a few minutes to get to space dock, upgraded a few of my weapon systems on my odyssey. Now I've got a couple of lvl 11 phaser arrays and still enough dilithium to do something else maybe console wise.

Thinking of going but heard horror stories about grinding the same missions day in day out. Is it possible to get the odyssey as a solo player without spending bones buying the zen nonsense?

Not anymore. They gave it away briefly during their anniversary event last year, but it's all premium now.

But don't let that put you off the game, or stories about grinding. I can't promise this won't change in the future, but you gain XP a lot faster than when the game first came out. Grinding is absolutely not necessary to work your way up through all the tiers, and probably not necessary to hit 50 (the level cap). You can do it all just by playing the main story missions, totally single player. I've been playing my alt lately, and she's not even done with the Klingon chapter. Her current mission has a minimum level requirement of 9, and she's a 12. I haven't done a single daily, no patrols, no fleet actions, no nothing except the main story missions. She levels almost every time she finishes a mission.

Yeah when I stopped during the PW transition I had two capped characters, just don't know how much effort it would be to get the new ships. If it's impossible to get the Odyssey what sort of advancement can I look forward to? I don't want to log back in only to grind in my old Prommie. Thanks for the reply.

Well, if you hit the cap, there's new episodes to play since you quit, so there's new content. But they never raised the cap, so you're not going to earn any more ships through promotions. All you can do is buy them. I think they changed it so that you can't buy them with energy credits anymore, but don't hold me to that. New ships cost dilithium (I think) or Zen points (which is basically real money). If you're willing to pay real money, there's tons of new ships available, including the Odyssey-class, the Vesta-class (like the Aventine in the books), and non-Starfleet ships from Federation races like the Andorians. Personally, I think the ships are too over-priced... at $5 a pop, I'd probably spend a fortune and buy them all, but most are in the $15-$25 range.

If that doesn't sound like your thing, you could always role a new toon. Like my level 50 was an engineering captain who only flew crusiers, but lately I've been playing a science captain who flies research ships, and I've got a tactical captain on my account who will only fly escorts. As I said before, you can play through just the story episodes, so no grinding should be necessary to see the new content (short of playing the story episodes you've seen already).

If that's still not fun, you could wait until the Legacy of Romulus expansion goes live. Brand new Romulan campaign from 1-50, and Warbirds to fly! Plus the Klingon campaign's changing, so you'll be able to play the Klingon campaign from 1-50. Legacy of Romulus is enough motivation for me to fork over real money for a few extra character slots.

I was up and playing lastnight, FINALLY finished Forging Bonds, I had to take on each Cardassian ship one at a time. then when it came to the final show down it was so difficult. Used all my abilities, weapons batteries, the works! I barely won with only 47% of my hull intact and needed to just stick around a bit and rest.

It's rather funny though, I'm just straight up stock, no special abilities, or technology at my side.

damn I dunno what to do, I can't beat Cardassian ships. They've gotta have some kind of a weakness, but I don't think my ships systems are set up right. It's like the attacks don't do anything to their shields.

What ship are you flying, and how is it set up? Also, what level is your captain, and what starship skills did you focus on?

You can PM me if you want, maybe we can set up a time to team up.

Hey guys, help out a total loser nube at the game. I've got anomolous sensor data, some lady says to basically put it in the slot south of here. South of there is just a transporter pad. What do I do with the stuff? Any sites for a newbie to go and learn? (the online help was lacking at best)

edit - especially with the "Go here, talk to X" missions. Is there a map that shows how to get to X most of the time (I get it if searching is required but finding a guy at Star Fleet Command should not require knowing what level he is on and then going there to hit the level map)

(be kind, I admit to being ignorant...)

There should be a yellow circle with a spinning dashed border on the map. That's where you're current objective is.

Thanks guys, found the thing. Sadly I then figured out the game is just not for me, far too much sitting around watching the ship travel from system to system. I'll most likely play it off and on a couple times a week.

At times I think its a bit tiring I agree. Sitting there waiting to get to your destination and what not. After a while you get use to it, but there's a ton of stuff you can do in game if you don't wanna wait around. Explore space docks, DS9, the interior of your own ship and customize its layout to what you like, customize your bridge crew. I do that allll the time.

There's also neat missions that make you travel in time to the 23rd century and interact with the crew of the original enterprise which was always fun.

Tomorrow I receive my 3D printed 1/2500 Odyssey class star ship in the mail. I do hope that its actually in scale or ill be very disappointed. I'm going to try and pick up some paint for it later and build it based on my scheme

STOP! You will get me to try the game again! (Maybe I just need to read a book during the long voyage bits...)

Where'd you find that at? I imagine it's fairly large...

I'm curious because last week I ordered all of the 1/2500 Cadet Series Round 2 AMT Enterprise models. So far I've built the original, the refit (which I labeled as the A), and the B. I've almost finished the saucer on the D. It'd be really awesome to have an F...

Ya know, for reissues they're not bad but the decals are horrible. I'll see if I can find the place I buy mine from, but I have a 1/2500 Sovereign with the Nemesis Decals and I hated it. So after rubbing them away I got another set. So here's a before and after with a slick paint job.

http://www.shapeways.com/model/773592/uss-odessey-1-2500.html?li=productBox-search this is the guy who's done a "1/2500" Odyssey, and I love the detail compared to another version I found for 40 dollars more with NO detail. When I asked that guy if he's toyed with it he said no.

Either case it'll arrive tomorrow and then I gotta spend some TLC at work trying to create some kind of decal design to be based on my Odyssey class star ship.

Oh just a note, the one on my laptop is the Round2 decals. The one on the left in darker color is my customized.

Tell me about it! But, even though I can't line up the decals perfectly and I sometimes tear them or get bubbles/wrinkles, I am horrible at painting. So I'll accept the for what they are: inexpensive, not too big models that are happily in scale with each other (vs. the Hot Wheels Enterprise refit and Enterprise-D I bought when the first Abrams Star Trek came out).

Please post some pics and your thoughts when you get it. I'd really like to have an Enterprise-F to go with the other six, but the listed dimensions seem a little small. I know that there's no official dimensions, but even a conservative estimate of its size should mean that from bow to the end of the secondary hull it should be as long as the Sovereign from bow to the ends of the nacelles. They do seem small for dimensions and I hope that's just a mistake cause his 2 models have some differences. Every size chart I've encountered puts the odyssey as being slightly larger than either galaxy or sovereign. Hell I have a crew of 2500, and I believe a galaxy comfortably holds 1400.

And I don't know about you but I have to use a transporter pad to go from my bridge to other interiors of the ship.

If it's not to scale ill just contact rupi and let him know how far off it is.

The guys in the STO forums have used everything from developer notes to in-game scale to using the lifeboats as a fixed indicator to estimate a size, and best guesses are somewhere between 850-1050 meters, probably closer to the lower end. On a 1/2500 scale I'm coming up with 34cm in length, or a little over a 13" long. The largest listed dimension is only 11.884cm.

Starfleet ships are (usually) some of my favorite sci-fi ships, so I really do hope your Odyssey turns out. I know I'd love to have a lot more 1/2500 scale starships than just the six Enterprises, and I see rupi's got a Luna-class and a Prometheus-class, too. Get me an Intrepid, a Nova, an Akira, a Nebula, a Miranda, a Vesta, and maybe a diminutive Defiant and NX-01 and I'd be a happy camper.

I got it, and it's sadly not even close to 1/2500. It's maybe 1/5000 or 7000. It's VERY small, and contains almost no detail. I've sent a message to the guy but I think he's trying to claim he doesn't know what the actual scale is. So I've told him it's gotta be changed to avoid confusion.

That's too bad. While I don't think Round2's models have been bad, they don't seem to like to make models that aren't either an Enterprise or a Klingon ship (the exceptions being two Romulan models, two space stations, the Reliant, and a Ferengi ship that comes packed with a Klingon ship). And aside from the 1/2500 cadet series, the scales for their models are all over the place, from 1/350 to 1/3200. I'd buy models for most of the ships from Star Trek, but if I do I'd like them to all be one consistent scale. Unless someone else can get a license, I doubt we'll be seeing any official Odyssey models any time soon.

Well, Legacy of Romulus was released, but good luck playing it. The servers are down for at least the third time in two days, and when the game is up take a number and get in queue. I don't want to complain too much, since I'm a silver player, but it's not like I never spend money in game. Cryptic's not exactly encouraging me to spend more.

From what I can tell, the Romulan content is padded with non-Romulan content.

When you reach level 10, you have to decide if the fledgling Romulan Republic will ally with the Federation or the Klingons. Whichever you pick, you'll have access to their bases and ships in addition to the Romulan bases and ships.

Wanted to check out STO again, looked at the patching issues, installed and played Bridge Commander. Holy crap now that's immersive, even with graphics from 10 years ago. The voice acting is marvellous.

Posted

I hear they've got all kinds of issues but it's been that way for almost a month now.

I've been playing STO almost exclusively for the last month. There have been issues with the servers crashing right when the launched the Neverwinter beta, and a little lag in the last week as they got Romulus ready. Nothing as bad as the last two days, though.
