Pat S Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Anyone interested in buying my used account? I'd sell for $40. Star Trek Online - Digital Deluxe Edition (Pre-Order) I enjoyed playing when it first came out, but I've been way too busy with work, and likely won't have any time for games for the foreseeable future. Quote
UN Spacy Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 It arrived today! My user name is pinoy78. I'm surprised it arrived so quickly. Not bad considering I only paid $16 for it. Quote
kung flu Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Hit rear admiral over the weekend, i'm really not loving the ship you get for that rank, i chose advance escort, i think i'll stick with the defiant class. Quote
Uxi Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Dude, Sovereign all the way. I'm Captain 6... haven't been on as much the last week (they screwed up my reg - signed for a 90 day recurring on 4/23.... on 5/2 I'm cut off. Open a ticket and they say they fixed it, but it backed up my date to 4/25. lol wtf. Update my ticket and now finally unscrewed, so get back at it. Looks like the Fleet is slowly coming back from the brink but not nearly as much activity, particularly from the leaders. What happened with Toloh? He seemed pretty cool before he apparently wigged out. Haven't seen (m)any of the regulars since. Quote
Chewie Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 (edited) Oh, I'll send it to you now. Sorry! That's what I thought! (Thanks. =P) Edited May 9, 2010 by Chewie Quote
Uxi Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 (edited) Hmm not letting me add you. I must be typoing your handle... Sent you a friend. Not sure if I'm doing the invite from the Fleet interface wrong or not. Oh and finally added Eugimon (thought it was my request to him that was being ignored... not that I was ignoring his. Kelsain Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Hmmm, is the demo limited to this weekend? Or just from today forward? 'Cuz of course, today's my wife's 1st Mother's Day AND her B-day!! No online gaming for me! Quote
Uxi Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Did Battle 7 disband or something or did I get kicked out? Says I'm not in a Fleet anymore. You'd think you'd get an email or notification of that... Quote
Uxi Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Finally made Admiral on Saturday. Tried to stay vanilla Sovereign, but ended up Noble Nacelles. At first I used a Majestic Primary Hull but was most bugged by where they put the registry and name so ended up with Noble there, too. I didn't find the Galaxy's turning so bad, though I'm sure the RCS Accelerator mk VIII didn't hurt. This Assault Cruiser with the RCS Mk X is nuts, though... I can do a Cobra in sector space and am regularly drifting/skidding even in combat, enough that it's hurting my shield facings while I'm getting used to it. Quote
Warmaker Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Maybe about a month ago they improved T4+ Fed Cruiser turn rate just a tad bit (1 pt, IIRC). Makes it a whole lot better. Quote
Ghost Train Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Hmm... this thread has been comatose for a while. Anyone still play? I cancelled 2 months ago, but I heard there were some pretty bad nerfings especially for Science and Escorts and the BOP for that matter. (Developer: ... Just as planned!) Quote
Uxi Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 I'm payed through July but got a bit bored even before maxing out RA5. July is when they do Episode 2 and add ship the basic ship interiors, of course. Quote

I cancelled 2 months ago, but I heard there were some pretty bad nerfings especially for Science and Escorts and the BOP for that matter. (Developer: ... Just as planned!) I was a very hardcore Klingon faction player, but I'm not liking how much effort Cryptic is putting into the KDF to make it on par with the Federation. Customization is about as bad as when the game went live still. Player population for the KDF has plummetted. I canx my sub but I still have a few months left on my account. I pretty much just troll around at their o-forums (it's in my name afterall ). I'll resub if what I see with Season 2 in July blows me away as far as the Klingons go, but as of right now, not impressed with their efforts. If Season 2 doesn't wow me, I'll uninstall for good and never look back. Giving EVE Online a go right now, since my old standby, LOTRO, is going F2P (and not to my liking). Also got a working edition of X-Com via Steam. Ahh, the good 'ol days of Squad & Turn Based Strategy games Edited June 17, 2010 by Warmaker Quote

David Hingtgen Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 On topic: STO needs more ships. More ships, more variety, and more explosions. You mean like the Excelsior, the most common ship in the fleet for most of Starfleet's existence? And the Ambassador class, its successor? Quote
one_klump Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 There are dozens of ship classes that can be added to the game. Some variety of the space missions would be nice too. Quote
Ghost Train Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 I think there was an official Cryptic poll not long ago where Exelsior was selected as the next ship... so fingers crossed. Unfortunately, its hull design & size really allows it to be classed into the T2 cruiser group, which for most players will be a glorified taxi/mule. There is just no point in using any ship other than a T5 (rank permitting), which is something they should change. Maybe doing it like EVE where there are Tech 2 versions of every ship hull. Quote
one_klump Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 I like the idea of having a real option to change hull designs in T5 content. I personally love the Miranda class design, but game limitations keep me from upgrading her to something useful. Not to mention that many of the T5 ships are a sin against Roddenberry ugly. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 Excelsior shouldn't have been in a "poll" it should have had the highest priority after Ent-A and Ent-D for being in from the start. That'd be like leaving the TIE Inteceptor or B-wing out of a SW game. It may not be THE most famous ship, but it's WAY up there. Way higher than the fan-made stuff they did put in the game... Quote
one_klump Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 To be fair, the B-wing didn't make it into the X-wing game, and only showed briefly in the TIE Fighter game. I don't think it was even in X-Wing Vs. TIE Fighter, which was vastly improved upon both games, but couldn't hold up to the likes of Descent: Freespace and Wing Commander: Prophecy of the time. Quote
Ghost Train Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 B-wing didn't make it into the first X-wing game at first... but they gave it its own expansion later. Quote
one_klump Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Yes, but unfortunately, the B-wing never ever had any control of the gyro-cockpit, the ship flew in a straight up and down "t" configuration all the time. And speaking of poorly implemented abilities, STO would have greatly benefited from other type of ships. A carrier type that launched drone fighters, etc. BTW, did STO ever give the Cruisers a real tanking ability? As in a way to hold threat? Quote

I personally love the Miranda class design, but game limitations keep me from upgrading her to something useful. Not to mention that many of the T5 ships are a sin against Roddenberry ugly. This has long been a sore point for me once I started playing more. The variety of Starships in a fight, especially for PvP, is ridiculously small. There have been numerous threads popping up that had different suggestions to allow lower tier ships to be used late in the game. I had a couple myself. #1 #2 "rant" For inspiration, clip from DS9 on the Dominion War - Every conceivable ship thrown into a fleet engagement. Old Mirandas still fought because they were needed. They fought alongside Galaxies, Excelsiors, Nebulas, etc. STO just doesn't have that varied feel at all, especially if you were hardcore into PvP like I was (as a KDF player, I only PvP'ed). Quote
Chronocidal Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Coming from playing Bridge Commander way back when, the ship designs and lack of variety were kind of what turned me away from STO in the first place. Really, the only place I've ever really seen a ST game shine is once it's opened up to the modding community. Given this is an MMO, I don't see that happening any time this millenium. If the game ever starts opening up to fan-contributed content, I'll probably be all over it. I frequented the Bridge Commander modding community for a good few years, and was able to make a few contributions, but the sheer amount of fan-made material is what made that game, as well as ones that came before it (Klingon Academy, the Starfleet Command series) so fun. Bridge Commander had a lackluster single player campaign, and very simple multiplayer at the start, but once the fans got a hold of the SDK, the content exploded to include mods and patches that went above and beyond the original game's scope. We're talking saucer separation, beaming commandos into enemy ships to capture them, custom made bridges and interfaces, and more ship variations and weapon types than you can count. The material is out there.. I just wish more developers had the passion to pursue game development to half the extent the fans do. Granted it's not always financially feasible, but for something like an MMO, with a relatively continuous cash flow and maintenance requirement, I'd think there could be tons of opportunity to add more content. I still have Bridge Commander and at one point had all the SFC games + Expansions, but all I have left now is SFC3 from that series. Had alot of fun with them, and you are very right with the mod community. Bridge Commander has a great number of mods that have improved the game overall, especially with appearances and "canon" tweaks. SFC3 has a great number of mods to itself. For a while I was testing and playing the DomWars mod by Pelican for that game, getting into the multiplayer campaigns. It's amazing what fans will do for free in practically any PC game, especially if given the proper tools to do so. Quote
one_klump Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 (edited) Just noticed that you can buy ship "Costumes" in the cryptic store. Imperial Assault Cruiser Hephaestus Advanced Escort Nimbus Deep Space Science Vessel Maelstrom Fleet Escort Nomad Star Cruiser Reconnaissance Science Vessel There are also new races to buy, like the Caitains, and bridge packs that come with 4 bridges. And although I didn't see it, apparently the Galaxy Dreadnought from "All Good Things" is available for purchase. From the email: And new to the store is the super desirable Dreadnought Galaxy! Best known from the Next Generation series finale, All Good Things, the Dreadnought Galaxy is unique. A refit of the Galaxy Class exploration cruiser, the Dreadnought Galaxy is equipped with a massive Spinal Phaser Lance and a cloaking device. It is the only Federation cruiser that can equip dual cannons. nice, but I don't think it will be enough to lure me back. Also, I sense a distinct lack of Excelsior class. Uxi Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 You mean like the Excelsior, the most common ship in the fleet for most of Starfleet's existence? And the Ambassador class, its successor? The Excelsior should definitely be ubiquitous but I never got that impression from the Ambassador. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Only because there never was a really high-quality miniature of it to film for stock footage/closeups, and the one that was built was too late for stock footage. (a LOT of the Excelsior class footage seen throughout TNG was filmed prior to season 1 airing--they pretty much filmed it once, then it got used for ST VI) The Ambassador is little-seen for production reasons, not "because it's rare". Sure it's gotta be less common than the Excelsior, but it should be a heck of a lot more common than the Galaxy, Sovereign, and Defiant combined. Quote
Uxi Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 According to Memory Alpha, there were only 6 Galaxy's originally layed out and at least 6 more by the end of the Dominion War, just counting the 10 seen on DS9 + Yamato (destroyed) + Enterprise-D (destroyed). I could easily see no more than 12 Ambassador's just like there were only 12 Constitution's. I'd imagine there would have to be a couple hundred Excelsiors and probably WAG a good thousand or so Miranda variants. Quote
Ghost Train Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 (edited) It's official, the core ST ships will now be available in end-game flavors. What sort of new ships can Federation and Klingon players expect for Episode 2? We've already seen the Galaxy-X class dreadnought, but what sort of escort and science-ship-related ships are in the pipe? A: Federation Vice Admirals will have access to one of three new ships: Galaxy with Saucer Separation, Intrepid with Ablative Armor and Defiant with Cloak. Klingon Dahar Masters will have access to a Fek’ihri carrier. http://startrekonline.com/node/1888 End-game Intrepid & Defiant classes are pure win for me! Intrigued by Saucer separation on the Galaxy, but I have no idea how that's going to work in a pew-pew situation. Also, new carrier if not bathing and making threatening gestures is your thing.
