Max Jenius Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 I'm still in my modded Constellation. Got a long way to go to t3 ships lol. It's ok. I love it for the same reason I hate it. It's a very casual game. Quote

Ghost Train Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Thanks for quickly accepting my friend request Dangaioh. I'm offline now, but will be on in 15 minutes ... but only for about 45 minutes this time, not been a game-friendly weekend these past 2 days Quote
eugimon Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 well, they finally fixed that borg hunt mission. But the subsequent mission is to just do it over and over again, 10 times. It gets old. Quote
kaiotheforsaken Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Well I hit Commander this morning and opted to go Heavy Cruiser. I gotta say, that thing is a beast, it has good survivability and cranks out a lot of damage. It's broadside of 4 phasers pretty much melts anything my lvl or lower. It's turning isn't horrid, but it's not great, luckily it packs such a punch torps are more of an option rather than a necessity. Currently 25, looking forward to getting a Galaxy soon. Quote
eugimon Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Nice. I'm seeing a lot of galaxy class ships now out around DS9. Still far more defiants and intrepids but it's always nice to see a galaxy or two swoop in and soak up the damage. Quote
one_klump Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 (edited) Halfway through Captain now, opted for a stock Defiant class. The USS Argus blows away everything else I have flown so far. Her damage output is amazing, and her turn radius is tight enough to go straight cannons / torps. Doing exploration missions seems to be the fastest way to get decent green gear for your ship so far, but I have to say, some of the story missions are straight up EPIC! lol Pics of my Modified Akira class, the USS Thunderhead and the Defiant class, the USS Argus: Edited February 14, 2010 by one_klump Quote

It's what I'm currently doing for Mark VI weapons. I'm trying to save my credits because all the Captain level ships are classics, I plan on scooping them all up at some point just to have. Quote
eugimon Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 if you're just gold farming, just soloing the lower level deep space encounters can get you some good loot to sell. It's amazing what mk VIII weapons can do in the sirius setor. Quote
kaiotheforsaken Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 (edited) Haha, that's a pretty good idea. Maybe once I hit Captain I'll do that just for kicks. The Galaxy is so big it'll just add to the fun of swooping through Mirandas Edited February 14, 2010 by kaiotheforsaken Quote
eugimon Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Actually, I just do it to test out new weapon configs (energy drain not effectiveness). It's always fun to see a big furball with a couple mirandas holding off two or three mobs, and the fly by and kill them all. It's also kinda mean cuz I end up getting all the loot but I figure I make up for it by ending their deep space encounter significantly quicker than if I weren't there. Quote
Ghost Train Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 On that note... what is the probability of "you" obtaining loot based off of? Final Blow or Most damage or completely random? Quote
kaiotheforsaken Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 I've been pretty basic with my configs, and probably will stay that way. It's been phasers and quantums and that will likely continue in my Galaxy and Sovereign setups, especially since I'm opting to specialize in those weapons now too. I was a little concerned about power drain on my Heavy Cruiser, but so far it's been pretty easy to maintain a 70ish% power level during full barrages against big targets. It has however become much more crucial to approach from 20km out or so and normal speeds to let my weapon energy recover. Quote
eugimon Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 On that note... what is the probability of "you" obtaining loot based off of? Final Blow or Most damage or completely random? apparently it's DPS based which is complete bullshit. It rewards people who are higher ranked than you, already have better gear than you and it massively penalizes cruisers. I think it's one reason why people stop teaming up in DSE or fleet actions. There's few people who actually bother with healing/buffing team mates and it can really hurt your chances of scoring loot. It also encourages higher level people to farm lower levels to get loot they weren't able to get when they were the appropriate level for the area in the first place. when I was in romulan space in my sector appropriate akira I would constantly find myself playing with mid level captains. It's great just to pass the mission but it got annoying very quickly when I realized the Luna class sporting mk 9 beams was getting all drops. Quote
kaiotheforsaken Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 I believe you're right, which also means that even if you were playing with all people your own level, it would seem to favor escort captains. It's way early so hopefully they'll come up with a better solution. I suppose on the bright side, the "raid" content they have is likely to be challenging and is based on 5 players, so it pays to do it with friends and group up. Quote

Warmaker Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Quite a bit irritated with the repeated server crashes. Nothing like being in a good, close PvP match and the damn thing shuts down. Been happening alot. Quote

Ghost Train Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Just made LT CDR. Took the USS Saber Lily on its shakedown cruise to Vulcan. Now, I'm an Engineer, so naturally I'll stick to Cruisers as I advance, but just wanted to try out Escorts and Science to get a taste for them. Thus far, my new Escort has proved to be nothing short of amazing - I guess anything higher than the n00b cruiser is : respectable damage output and the ability to turn on a dime. Results improve with good boffs skills like rapid fire. Quote
kaiotheforsaken Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Hit Captain and got my Galaxy tonight and I love it. It does turn like a bus, but it feels appropriate for the ship and doesn't take too much altering to my previous strategy for flying Cruisers to line things up right. I took probably 100 glamor shots of the thing, I'll have to post a couple good ones just for kicks. As a tactical officer, I'm really liking how my abilities help counter the cruisers downsides. That being said, I already have my eyes on the Sovereign. Looking at the stats for it, it basically fits perfectly into how I want to play as an assault cruiser ship. Only 9 levels to go. Quote
Max Jenius Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 PLEASE tell me she has green hair!! Yes. Vulcan. Quote
Vostok 7 Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 Yes. Vulcan. I added you as a friend last night, if you got one from @LostCosmonaut that was me. Quote
Ghost Train Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 (edited) So last night I tried the above suggestion of farming low-level areas in a higher-level ship. That was quite a hilarious endeavor. My escort totally owned the Sirius patrol encounters, and got soooo much more loot than when I had stomped those grounds on the Miranda. I'm guessing that a Captain/Admiral doing the same thing in a LTCDR/CDR zone would produce much more income. At first I felt bad doing this, but I saw quite a few Tier 2/3 ships doing the same thing, I even shared a Sirius encounter instance with a Sovereign class lol >_> . But I absolutely love my new ship. My frontal arsenal are 2x MkIV phaser cannons, and 1 MkIII Quantum Torpedo launcher. With Rapid Fire, Emergency Power to Weapons, and High Yield Torp ready, I was popping those Neghvars in less than 10 seconds that gave me sooo much grief a few days ago. I can only guess what the insane damage dps potential would be as a Tactical, but as an Engineer, RSF gives me a bit of survivability edge. Edited February 15, 2010 by Ghost Train Quote

Chewie Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 (edited) I got to play with someone in a Sovereign the other day in fleet action. It was just awesome to him fly into a fleet, park, pop fire at will and half the fleet would disappear. He did 9k damage overall, the next highest was 900 and the whole encounter took 9 minutes. I am really enjoying this game for the same reason Max said: it's so casual. There's no pressure whatsoever to do anything. I love it. Edited February 16, 2010 by Chewie Quote
