i still have a genuine interest in macross, thats why i'm still here. just because i don't collect the toys and don't post much these days doesn't make me any less of a fan. i post on a rare occasion because somehow i always manage to piss someone off, so i just stay lurking and catch up on news and check out people pics. i come here at least once a week to see whats up.

Man, this thread brought back an embarrassing memory. About 11-12 years ago I was a young punk cruising around for girls in my V8. I had a stripped down Jetfire and like less than 30 Transformers. One of my ex's at the time showed interest in my toys and she pointed out the "Robotech looking" one. I got so excited that I drove all over town in search of an old chunky monkey so I could spend like $500 on it... the closest I got was a $300 offer for a complete Jetfire.

Eventually I ended up at a specialty toy store that my friends and other toy retailers recommended. The owner told me he sold all his Macross stuff just a few months back. The only thing he had left was a complete 1/3000 SDF-1 (with box) for $100. Being the ignorant punk that I was I just walked away from disappointment.

I thought my chance for redemption was finally at hand when Yamato announced their 1/2000. Now that it's too limited/bland/expensive to ever be in my collection... I think I should be doing some stretching exercises as I feel the need to kick myself in the head once more.

I'm somewhat disappointed in this version of the Macross, to be honest. It looks rather shabbily done, as if to just get it out there as quick as possible. The color scheme seems a little haphazard, too. I know the DYRL version was a shades-of-grey deal, but this just seems... bad.

Personally, I'm not that much of a DYRL-version fan. I prefer the TV version, to be honest.

My idea version of the Macross would be a TV version (Daedelus/Promethius) in DYRL colors, but snce these things go for way more cash than I have, it's a moot point.

I have to agree with you. This version of Macross doesnt look thatt good like the WHAM version. And again, I have to agree with you that I am a big fan of the TV Macross version. I love the prometheus and Daedelus as the arms. Now it is came with ARMDs that were said to be added to replace the Daedelus/Prometheus arms, it would be a big bonus.

Oh my goodness! I'm not sold seeing the photos. Is there a way to bring the price down under $700 USD or somewhere around 60000 yen? As for details in ratio of the $2,300 price tag, I don't think it's detailed enough and lacking gimmicks as I've mentioned on the previous thread.

Hm. Judging from the Overdrive pics...they haven't painted any of the details on the AMRD 1 or 2 carriers. Lots of details missing. Lots to be desired.

Anyways - I hope they keep at it and finally make an affordable mass produced awesome product...

That's why we buy them right? Cuz they're fun and reminds us of old childhood memories. And we become suckers when it comes to these limited releases. Sometimes one can see within these posts that the hobby is becoming more of a competition to see who has more stuff; deeper pockets win. The fun is disappearing.

But model kits are traditionally cheaper than finished models, like this one purports to be.

This is clearly what it is - an unfinished grand project that didn't pan out for whatever reason.

It has a bunch of things missing but you can also clearly see this would have been the greatest Macross toy ever made...if they managed to do it.

Oh well.

I hope Yamato went back to the drawing board and are...drawing right now

I don't know what big fuzz is about this model. I mean yes, it's huge, but it doesn't seem to have alot of detail. The Wave SDF has more details than this. Unless I'm not seeing the details well on the pics...

In my opinion (judging from the pictures) the $ 2,000 USD (or € 1,600 euro) price tag is way to high for this model. My other hobby is collecting scale model cranes and construction equipment in 1/50th scale. Just last year there was a model released of the PTC (Platform Twinring Containerized) crane from Mammoet. The model was set at € 1,500 euro's. Fully built it stands about 2,5 meters (around 8 feet) tall, and features amazing detail, plus it's constructed almost completely from metal.

For the 1/2000th scale SDF-1 (only 60 cm's long !!) I would pay no more than € 400 euro's, if it was the TV-version with Deadalus & Prometheus fitted. For this model to be worth $ 2,000 USD it would at least have to be somewhere around 1/700th scale with an app. length of about 170 cm's (such as modern battleship kits).

Just my two cents...
