electric indigo Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Alien, Blue Thunder, Dark Star - Dan O'Bannon participated in the creation of quite a handful of movies that defined old school science fiction cinema for me. Farewell, Sgt. Pinback. http://www.empireonline.com/news/feed.asp?NID=26564 Quote
taksraven Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Oh no. Thats terrible. The loss of another SF visionary! I love a lot of his work, and he was always keen on SF, taking an active interest in promoting it. Its funny, cause just the other day I was watching a doco on my 2001 DVD which featured Dan talking about it. I think the doco was produced a few years ago but I still thought he didn't look well. One of the great SF 'ideas' people has moved on. RIP Taksraven Quote
Knight26 Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 no that sucks man, I still have an old Dan O'Bannon book with a ton of unused art from early ALien concepts, that I just love Quote
Hikuro Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 Aw wtf? I will certaintly miss that guy! He helped bring Sci/fi into a more realistic light with Alien, showing you can make a low budget film and make it horribly scary and give you nightmares well into your adult years! Quote

It usually the actors and maybe the directors who get their praises sung but the writers are often neglected. I just hope that most who have enjoyed the Alien franchise appreciate that they have lost a hero of the genre. Taksraven Quote
blacklotus Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Thanks for the heads up. Wow! So this is the guy who wrote the B-17 segment in the 1981 Heavy Metal movie. That segment has ever since flashed into my head every time I see or hear the word Zombie. Finally I get to see his face. Too late to meet him though. sigh...maybe later on... Quote
