I have to check this out sometime. Still haven't read anything past the first few issues, which were excellent. That's a crazy SV-51 space booster.

Love that space booster! Can't wait for the printed versions to come out...

This "Macross The First version SV-51" would have to be modified for space; a fighter using conventional (overtuned) jet engines could not operate in space. Maybe it has thermonuclear engines like the VF-1?

Wat's the context of these SV-51 panels in the comic?

Given we only ever see thrust from that space sled thing it's possible that only way it can navigate in space is via the sled and it's used as an orbital deployment method... for whatever odd reason.

About that SV-51...

It's the SV-51Σ, is unmanned, and is codenamed "Rudolph" in the AUA's "Operation Red Nosed Reindeer" that we see taking place. At the end of the manga, Shammy does her stuff, and detects it - as the AUA aircraft are using active stealth and pretty much all of the island's radar facilities have been destroyed in the attack (well, she literally detects "something", but us readers know what that is), and it appears that Fokker's booster rocket equipped VF-1S is being set up to intercept it.

I'm sure it's buried somewhere in this thread but can anyone save me some digging and point me to a translation page? So far I found only one for the first volume. It would be greatly appreciated.

Gubaba did a translation for the first vol. but he left off doing the rest for other projects (BTW if I haven't said before, the Misa book was awesome!) Currently I don't know of anyone who's translated the rest.

Wow, I had never heard of this before and it started way back in 2009?

I guess since Gundam did something similar with their Universal Century story, they did the same for Macross (or was Macross done this way first?).

How far did the last volume take the story line up to?

Ain't that the truth!? :)

I've been trying to pick up his artbooks. I've missed so much and he's one of my favorites.

Mine too and he just keeps getting better. It's pretty cool to see his evolution as an artist from the early 80's to the present. The moment I found out Macross the First were Mikimoto books, I went straight to eBay.

I love Mikimoto's art as well! I only recently got the tankōbons of Macross the First, and I'm considering hunting down Macross 7 Trash. I'm studying Japanese now, and immersing myself in as much media as I can.
