Raptor One Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 (edited) Got my shipment of the first two volumes last week, along with the second VF-1 Master File and an issue of the Chronicle. Loving it so far. This has inspired me to resume my efforts at learning Japanese. Or at least enough to be able to translate using a dictionary. I used to think that talk of a reanimated SDF Macross was blasphemy, but now I'm not so sure. I also have to add that I think we need a new appreciation thread specifically for Minmay in The First. I mean, damn Edited July 5, 2011 by Raptor One Quote

VF-18S Hornet Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Is Hikaru trying NOT to look at Minmei's bottom? Why is his eyes red and not blue like in the series Quote
VF-18S Hornet Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Well I ended up ordering all three goiing to end up with Vol. 2 though. And even though I don't understand Japanese, I can either 1 get Rosestta Stone to learn or 2 scan the pages and commision someone to translate a script per page, so I will digitaly edit the words in via photoshop since I do have the program. jvmacross Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 What episode is Macross the First Currently on...in relation to the original SDFM....I wonder if it will actually match (in count) the original SDFM TV show episode for episode? It seems that MtF is bringing that portion of the Macross timeline inline with the rest of the Macross Universe thus far (stylistically)....for example....DYRL "as a movie within the Macross universe" is now a better representation of Space War I (stylistically) if compared to the "look" of Mtf vs SDFM...it is closer in look to MtF than SDFM.......the same goes for all Macross productions made after DYRL...they all seem to follow the DYRL style versus the original SDFM "look"......when all is said and done...what will be the official chronicle for Space War I? Or is MtF a "TV mini-series" within the Macross world? Does anyone know if the Macross Frontier movies are also "movies" within the Macross Frontier era? I do believe there are stylistic differences, for example valk armor that is seen only in the Macross Frontier movies and not the TV show..... Quote

Each book so far seems to cover about two or three episodes, often by mashing some events together. The latest episode was #8, which covers the first part of "Bye Bye Mars." nexxstrait Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 For all of you that have already bought Vol #3 of Macross the First, are there any notable addition/changes compared to the single episodes that appeared on Macross Ace? Issue 1 & 2 had some new pages and/or slight retouches Quote

VF-18S Hornet Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 (edited) Got my copy of Vol. 3 of Macross the first, last week. Thanks to a zip code snafu it ended in the post office in my town instead of at my job, so I was able to pick it up before heading to New Castle to pick up some things at BJ's. Though I couldn't understand what the characters were talking about, but I can feel the tension and the action especially between the battle of Max and Kamjin. Whoa Max in a Destroid!!!! He kicked butt and Kamjim couldn't touch him. It's also the first time that I saw the Prometheus jettisoned off the Macross so it can performs the first ever "Macross Asteroid Attack", that's what I think they said, and after that was was over the Prometheus flys back to the Macross, which I think was the coolest idea they came up with. I say Mikimoto's art is ever evolving and getting better sice his early years SDF Macross as it's Character Designer,. Can't wait for 1 and 2 to come in, now I must contiplate on purchasing Rosetta Stone to learn how to read Japanese or commission someone to translate. Edited August 1, 2011 by VF-18S Hornet Quote
sketchley Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 now I must contiplate on purchasing Rosetta Stone to learn how to read Japanese You WON'T learn to read from that piece of doo-doo software (let alone talk... but that's ultimately debatable as it depends on one's brain type). Best way to learn? Take a look in a bookstore and purchase the one that you think will work the best for your study habits. Option 2 is to use Google and find some free resources to do the same. Mileage will vary. Quote

Quote
Gubaba Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 As Sketchley said, Newtype Ace #1 is out...I gotta admit, I'm not really eager about buying this magazine every month just to get Macross the First (and the news section: "Macross Ace Plus"). It's monthly (which, yes, probably means more frequent Macross the First...but also probably means fewer pages per issue) and it's more expensive than Macross Ace was...AND there's really nothing else in the magazine that I care about (the debut issue's Gundam the Origin T-shirt isn't bad, though...I wonder if it'll fit me?). (Only one way to find out...) (Huh. A little snug, but not bad.) Anyway, yeah...as Sketchley also said, this chapter is a "special"... ...covering the four months between Minmay's 15th birthday and the launch of the Macross, with a short epilogue as the Macross approaches Mars. There's a new character, "Hikaru Watanabe," who's an aspiring photographer and Minmay's classmate. Since he doesn't get to the island before the ship's launch, I assume he's gonna end up toasted by Zentradi death beams... Too bad, he seems like a nice kid. Quote
hulagu Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Is it drawn by Mikimoto or is this special drawn in a different style like First Contact? Quote

Kelsain Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 So I've been searching around and found nothing. Wasn't there a good picture of Hikaru's Vf-1j colors from the first? Seems it was all colored in on the old lineart, but the new scheme. I've found a Hase 1/48, b/w scans, and that Wave battroid; but not the pic I remember. Am I crazy? Quote
