McDuck Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Long time lurker first time poster here. I just started to seriously watch M7 for the first time after skipping over it for the other series. So far I'm on episode 2 and am enjoying the subtleties that were eventually incorporated into Frontier. The remastered animation is a plus too. I can't wait to catch up to the rest of you so I can join in the episode 7 and 8 discussion. Robotech sucks! Quote

Marzan Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Would be awesome to watch episode 08 on Christmas day, though if not i'll do it the day after. It is the first episode where you know who speaks after all. Now thats an episode one cannot miss. Unfortunately for me I'll be in a cabin with no electricity or internet connection so I'll have to join the discussion later... Quote

MacrossCN Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 (edited) I have a question for EP.09 Who are these in episode? These name from CAST LIST of EP.09. リン(Lynn) CV:河合義雄 seller? コスギ(Kosugi) CV:臼井孝康 seller? ラズビ(Razubi) CV:陶山章央 if he is Alice's agent, where is another agent? Edited December 28, 2009 by kresphy Quote
Renato Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Good question. I don't remember the episode, but I will watch it again soon. I am guessing two of those are Alice Holiday's agents, and the other one.... maybe a vampire? Maybe the record store guy, as you say? Quote

Master Dex Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Right.... Anyway I didn't watch any episodes last week, partly due to Pete's idea. So we watching ep.8 this Friday then? Quote
VFTF1 Posted December 28, 2009 Author Posted December 28, 2009 Yeah -we should. I'll probably end up watching it on Youtube - but screw it. We should. Pete Quote

Pete Try Veoh, I was watching there before getting some downloads. It isn't the best quality, but it doesn't break the episodes into parts either. Quote
VFTF1 Posted December 28, 2009 Author Posted December 28, 2009 I'm not gonna try anything new. I'll have my modem next week and go back to downloading. Just haven't managed to go into town to buy it yet is all Pete Quote

Just haven't managed to go into town to buy it yet is all Pete Whatever works for you. Is your old hard drive inaccessible? Because if the stuff there wasn't corrupted by the virus you could just transfer all the episodes and stuff to your new hard drive I would think. Of course if you have no means of transfer that presents a problem. This is why my external hard drive is the best thing I've bought yet. All my media is off loaded from the main machine now. This week break was nice anyway though. Got the first season of Full Metal Panic, and the Fumoffu series in a box set over Christmas, so I've been taking the time to watch that show again (seen most of it before, might try to find the light novels it is based on). Nothing against Macross but I do enjoy it when they take the time to work out the details of the technology in the show, the engineer in me loves that. Of course where Macross doesn't explain things in universe all the time (they sometimes do), we get official details on how stuff works from Kawamori later on so it balances itself out. Quote
VFTF1 Posted December 28, 2009 Author Posted December 28, 2009 (edited) Old Hardrive's dead. This new laptop I'm on supposedly has two partitions but I think my last one also had two partitions and that didn't help worth squat. Lost everything - including all my accounting But I suck at accounting anyways - and besides, it's all a load of BS anyways since "profit" and "loss" as defined by the government defies all common sense and I hate it - worse thing about running a business. If I EVER make enough money to hire someone - the first thing I'm gonna do is hire an accountant.... although...I did TRY to do that this year - but the lady at first gave a reasonable fee, but then when she saw how much work there was her fee jumped by 1000% (one thousand - yeah...) ... which was, I guess ...her way of saying "I don't wanna clean your mess" So... yeah...all my anime is gone...my accounting is gone...my photography is gone... the number to the winning million dollar lottery ticket which I wrote down on my old computer is gone But apparently in Japan they do Osouji ... so ... this is my personal version of Osouji! :-) I'll just have to redo all my accounting in April....which seems to be universal Tax month everywhere you go? ... no wonder TS Eliot wrote it was "The Cruelest Month" ... But you know - downloading the anime doesn't take long at all - only a few minutes. What's taking so much time is buying a new modem - I basically did something really DUMB when I renewed my mobile internet contract. See - they always offer you a new modem for a symbolic fee of like 25 cents. But I said "no thanks. My old one works fine." Stupid Pete. Soooo stupid Pete. My "old one" was bought like 3 years ago, along with my old laptop - and apparently all modems are now simple USB connections. This one was one of those card-things. My old laptop had a hole where you could insert it... NO new laptop has this hole any more... NONE. But most stores and offices and stuff are closed here for the holidays and really everything will reopen in January.... besides...I don't feel like driving all the way into town right now since I'm supposed to be resting and relaxing I'll do it next year... then I'll reacquire anime... Although - after all the times I've lost everything due to viruses... I was wondering... Won't my laptop DVD player play ANYTHING? Can't I just get the original DVDs from Japan and play them? I have almost gotten to the point of not caring about the subs even - like...I understand Japanese by osmosis. Every anime is basically the same anyways... Nani!? Xooo!! Aiske! Watashi wa something or other! No...I guess my Japanese is not good enough to actually understand anything without subs Oh well - what I really need to do is just burn what I download onto CD-Roms and have them on my shelf with my other DVDs. Pete I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw the Alice Holiday episode. Come to think of it though didn't Ozma Lee or some other charater in Frontier say something like "Sheryl is just another Alice Holiday"? I could just be imgaing it though so I'll have to take another look. Old Hardrive's dead. This new laptop I'm on supposedly has two partitions but I think my last one also had two partitions and that didn't help worth squat. Pete How dead? Dead as in you can't boot it up or dead as in its mechanically inoperable? Personally I have yet to see a computer virus on its own physically damage a harddrive. You should be able to slip it into a hardrive enclosure and hook it via USB up to your new computer and transfer files that way. Since your laptop is old I am guessing that it's likely pre-2003 and has a PATA hard drive and not SATA. Either way its easy to find cheap Hard drive enclosures that support PATA and SATA connections. On the other hand the PATA only HD enclosures are even cheaper because everyone is trying to sell out yesterday's technology. As for partitions they won't do any good when you can't boot the computer. If you can hook up the hard drive though an HD enclosure then you shouldn't have a problem accessing either partition and all your old data. Also wanted to add: Dam that annoying green moniter, but don't worry I will use my "gimping" skillz to edit it out Frack that green monitor. I wasn't able to edit it out with Gimp . Still I got a new avatar that is much smexy then James Cameron's blue furies will ever be . Quote
VFTF1 Posted December 29, 2009 Author Posted December 29, 2009 I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw the Alice Holiday episode. Come to think of it though didn't Ozma Lee or some other charater in Frontier say something like "Sheryl is just another Alice Holiday"? I could just be imgaing it though so I'll have to take another look. I have no recollection of this. I do recall Ozma getting really mad when Ranka told him she wanted to be a singer, and I think that was when he said something about how singers are all fake or something like that. Only the little manager dude managed t convince him with his "song is bunka and bunka is ai!" speech.... which was cool. You MIGHT be right, since I do kind of vaguely remember Ozma making tons of disparaging remarks. He hated the Miss Macross contest.... generally - he was kind of like the Doug Bendo of Macross Frontier - everything not related to flying death machines was immediately classified by him as child porn... But of course - MY theory is that Ozma was just bitter that he lost Cathy to a guy like Leon. And probably the fact that she considered him "just" a pilot made him resentful of everything that WASN'T related to flying a valkyrie - a kind of defensive instinct whereby he had to fix his tarnished self-esteem by immediately labeling everything and everyone who wasn't a valk pilot as kind of worthless. This is probably also why he took a liking to Alto - which I now see...despite my first impression of Ozma being a dork to him...but even the punch was tough love...and he did barge in and basically wrestle Alto away from Cathy and the military and coax him into joining SMS - because he was clearly in awe of Alto's skills.. and dedication to flying. But later, when Ranka showed Ozma the beauty of girls who wear lingerie and sing about love, and Cathy regained her senses and decided to drop her metrosexual hawaii shirt nail polishing boytoy in favor of good ol' down to Earth Ozma - I think he lost his bitterness and became complete again. How dead? Dead as in you can't boot it up or dead as in its mechanically inoperable? Personally I have yet to see a computer virus on its own physically damage a harddrive. You should be able to slip it into a hardrive enclosure and hook it via USB up to your new computer and transfer files that way. Either way its easy to find cheap Hard drive enclosures that support PATA and SATA connections. On the other hand the PATA only HD enclosures are even cheaper because everyone is trying to sell out yesterday's technology. You know - I appreciate everybody's advice - but I am worse than computer tech illiterate - I am economically minded. My old laptop was about 4 years old, it had an expired 2 year warranty anyways. I know some people like to fiddle with stuff like this - I don't. However, my step-dad does - so I sold it to him for a paltry 200 bucks. He got the thing running again - but he had to whipe the hardrive clean to do it - and yes, I earlier did try Recovery but it didn't work... he said he had to break a sweat getting it to recover/boot up - but it worked eventually. So now the old computer is his, the data on the hardrive is gone, and I have a nice new laptop with a 2 year warranty with lots of great features my old one didn't have. My idea is to buy cheap with the intention of changing laptops very often - because they keep adding features, memory space and ...um...stuff. So the one I have now I hopefully will get rid of in two years. I just need to finally put stuff I don't want to dissappear onto CD-ROMs or something. Pete Quote

Can download, resume watching etc etc. Bad New: I'm tired, just got home from a great two days of celebrating the new year. I totally didn't realize that Friday was January 1st! If anybody else wants to get a head start and post a review -go ahead ! I'll watch this tomorrow. Although - I imagine most of you feel tired like me Pete Quote
Master Dex Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 Although - I imagine most of you feel tired like me Pete Nope. However I've never been much for partying, especially for a calendar change. Will comment on the episode after I've seen it. Quote
VFTF1 Posted January 1, 2010 Author Posted January 1, 2010 (edited) Oh...you misunderstand me I haven't been partying. Me, my girlfriend and her daughter spent the last two days cooking good pasta, playing scrabble, watching funny movies and cleaning her apartment (she's a cleaning nut - everything needs to be dusted and vacumed like three times a day...), and generally having a wonderful romantic time ... so I'm kind of exhausted tonight Tomorrow...I'll be up for Macross 7 for sure! Glabil does fire fleet destroying reactive weapons from a Satanic symbol...I dunno if that counts Anyways...I failed to watch the episode today...my dog fell in love with some bitch and he's all heart stricken so I can't let him outside for a while...have to go out with him on a leash...that's exhausting because he's a beagle, which means that - contrary to Snoopy (which is totally bogus) - I'm exhausted from having to walk him...and I think there's still too much of a holiday atmosphere...I dunno...I didn't feel like doing much of anything today. Tomorrow I gotta go work...maybe I'll watch it in the evening... If everybody else is feeling like this and nobody's watching - maybe we should just promise to do it next Friday? This last Friday was impossible because it was Jan. 1st...and Jan 2nd isn't really the best time...and it's saturday... I dunno... If anybody DOES write up the episode - great. If nobody does it... I'll get to it...but... I think next Friday... See...I need to... um... don't laugh but... I need to re-download all the previous episodes first...as well as Toppa Tengenn Gurren Lagann, DYRL, SDFMTV, both seasons of Haruhi Suzumiya... I can't just download the next episode and watch it alone... not today at least.. I'm slow as a slug about stuff like this...I procrastinate...I feel that it's kind of akin to a time for artistic ferment to have a chance to...umm...ferment... But that's ok - this thread should be natural... things should go at their own pace. I am very happy with what we've achieved...I'm gonna be off of M7 for one more week probably... Master Dex Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Fine by me. I didn't watch it yet either. I've been watching all the Doctor Who marathons on BBC America (no I have not watched End of Time yet anyone so don't say anything if you have, I'll see it tonight). Besides I only recently finished marathoning Full Metal Panic season one so I wasn't in a very Macross-y mood yesterday. So I can wait a week as well. This whole endeavor will take a year at best anyway (~50 episodes translates to about 50 weeks which is almost a year) so taking two weeks off isn't a very big deal in the scheme of things. Quote
