^^^^WOW. I put in a preorder for Wolverine's kid, whatever her name is, and Christy (?) from Tekken. The only ones that really caught my eye previously were Black Widow and Ms. Marvel, but they're all beautiful girls/statues...

I really love Shunya Yamashita art and I've got several figures based on his work, but I just don't like Kotobukiya figures all that much.

anyways I think I'm finally going to jump back in to figure buying.

I've got this on preorder: http://www.hlj.com/product/YMT34923

and I'm probably going to preorder these 2: http://www.hlj.com/product/alt20297 http://www.hlj.com/product/amxax-0075

Do Figma Black Rock Shooter figures count? I've been collecting the whole series ever since the original BRS fig was released, and I'm currently waiting for them to release that damn BRS game bike.

Would love to post some pics, but I don;t have a camera on hand right now.

Missing only two variants then i'm back on track to the future releases...

you're so damned lucky to have both of those VMF-50 Minmay dolls. they're so lovely♥

One minmay doll, the one in Chinese dress is an extra VMF50 Risa tanned version. I do have the VMF50 series.. just missing 7 and 8. =( their freaking expensive..

ah, i see now. upon closer inspection, the one in the Quipao is definitely not Minmay-chan. i'd kill just to have her DYRL edition there.

i know that her face is not the most accurate, but it sure does look adorable from a distance like that photo shows.

that said, if i was ever in a position to be able to afford her,

i think i'd just go the extra mile and have a custom VOLKS Dollfie head made up for her.

with the massive variety of Dollfie facial types available, i'd be guaranteed to be able to make a spot on likeness.

this is what YAMATO should have done in the first place, IMHO.

in the end, i'd probably want her general look to err on the Moe side, having a head modeled probably off of her MACROSS; THE FIRST iteration...

Why is it that Final Fantasy figs are the only ones cursed with bad designs in the Play Arts Kai line? The FF XIII-2 Lightning fig I just got actually has soft rubber feet instead of plastic. WTF?! Could hardly stand the thing up on its own, and it even come with a display stand!

For that kind of price, Figmas are certainly much better value for money.

Jessica Lichtenstein Lives and works in New York City.

Using the female body as a mechanism to explore deeper themes of power, female representation, fetishism and objectification,

usually in an ironic and cheerful way, Lichtenstein’s work embodies the very paradox she is trying to explore. Her work consciously

plays with the boundaries of power, commercialization, consumerism, fantasy and propriety, provoking tensions that challenge the

viewer to confront his or her own gaze.

Fascinated by the mass-production and fetishization of hyper-sexualized Japanese figurines, Lichtenstein’s current series manipulates

the presentation and context of mass-produced anime dolls in order to imbue them with new associations and richer meaning. By taking

these lifeless figures out of their plastic boxes and by placing them within the white cube of the gallery, Lichtenstein explores both the

commodification of the female body while simultaneously examining how these forms change in the public vs. private realms. Through these

vignettes, the girls are placed on a stage for public inspection and the viewer can voyeuristically watch these girls examine and perfect both

themselves and their lives, exposing the extremism of a consumer culture dominated by western ideals of beauty and lifestyle.

So aparently, If I take my half-naked anime girl statues and arange them into vinyets with various miniture props in acrylic display cases, I can get my stuff into high-end New York art galleries and sell them to wealthy smucks around the world for huge bank.

and how about something I actually own...

I feel really bad about ragging on this figure considering how much I ended up paying to get it.

(I bought this in late May, was messing around with new soft focus lens filters back in october, and finally got around to moving the contents of that memory card onto my computer yesterday. )

it's nice to hear that some of these figures are getting realitively high-profile exposure, as they are truly works of art,

but if i were the curator, i would have chosen among far more of the more "tasteful" examples out there,

and probably would've attempted to excuse it all with far less Quasi-Metapsychological Mumbo-Jumbo,

and just keep it clean and straight, somewhere along the lines of;

"here is but just the smallest sample of what your humble host feels is a singularly beautiful, yet oft-underapprerciated, realitively new Artform.

-please feel free to appreciate it, and if you would like, please write down your thoughts and and place in the drop box on your way out"

-but, then again, i suppose that simply would not catch the attention of the Hoity-Toity Big Apple Art-Culture ELITE

like this parade of largely tasteless parade of examples might, followed with it's carefully crafted rumination upon Pornography

and what it means to Humanity as a species...

Please do. I've only managed to get myself the Black Rock. Probably the best Figma ever considering the amount of extras, and the awesome OVA DVD it came with it.

I had the Big Boss Kai Snake. And wasn't impressed by it's quality. So I sold it. And eventhough I'm a MGS nut, I most probably avoid the Grey Fox Ninja figure!

And yeah, figmas presently are far better when you consider their qaulity and extras.

LOL, I've got quite a few of the figures she's used. Absolutely genius though! At least now we know our naughty figures can be freely displayed as art. :) And sold at the same price. :D

Heheh, just don't mind the poor quality pics. I'm the furthest person you can find to a professional photographer. My only two cameras are a decade-old entry level digital camera, and the one built into my smartphone.

As for BRS, I agree. Next to Figma's KOS-MOS, it has the most accessories, and the only one I can recall that came with a DVD.

BTW, if you can still find it, I totally recommend BRS 2035, aka the game version. While she might seem derivitive of the original BRS at first, she's still got a nice design; more futuristic, and the fins on her waist give her a cybernetic look. Besides, she'll make a good companion for the upcoming bike [no release date yet, though]!

I understand that art is what you make of it, but...really? I mean, couldn't she have at least come up with something of her own, instead of taking end product merchandise and rearranging them?

Honestly, if that's all it takes to be an artist, we'd all be Picasso's and Leonardo's here.

...or Matisse, considering the "ero" nature of the subject matter. :p

I Just thought it was pretty funny how one person who totally doesn't get it can sell their gross misinterpretation as art to a whole lot of other people who totally don't get it.

Although I'm also a little miffed that she's got a couple figures I really want but can't afford because they're $200+ on ebay.

Love my Kosmos figma. Then it went back in the box after I got Alter's Kosmos. Yes, expensive, doesn't have the full attractiveness of the Figma's face, but just a real masterpiece of engineering and art combined.

I ordered BRS 2035. But on SAL to save shipping costs, so hoping it will be here soon... B))

In regards to the upcoming Kai MGS. I saw the one pic at Hobby Search shows the Ninja with the helmet's red eye lit up?

But no where does it say that the figure will have a LED?

Anyone with info on this?

Which Alter KOS-MOS were you referring to? I googled "alter+KOSMOS," and found a ton of different figs alter made of the character, some articulated, others statues.

I found this one by Volk pretty attractive, although the face isn't accurate to the game's GC model:

kosmos4.jpg

I'll admit it doesn't have KOS-MOS's cold expressionlessness in the game, but it is nice to look at.

As for BRS, trust me, when ou get your hands on it, you'll be spending hours posing it in different dynamic stances and positions. Since she's supposedly flight-capable, there are tons of great posing possibilities.

What I find interesting is that the people who buy her work, are probably the first ones to judge collectors from comicbook and anime stores. :D

Honestly, I find that more WTF than interesting. Some feministic pseudo-artist tries to take out her frustrations against sexism by using the anime/manga genre as a scapegoat, and in turn making money off of more pseudo-artistic types.

...which is basically repeating what anime52k8 just said, but with different words. :p

IMO, I think that's more of a reflection of background lighting than an LED.

I've been following the MGS line from PlayArts Kai myself, and there's been no mention so far of light-up eyes. The recommended retail pricing is the same for the upcoming Solid Snake fig who doesn't seem to have any light-up gimmicks, so it's not likely that there will be any electronics on this.

This Kosmos. From the Al-Mecha line by Alter. It's now at 50% sale!!! I'm upset! It's the price of the figma Kosmos now!!!

http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/review?scode=FIG-MOE-2570&page=top%2Fsearch%2Flist%3Fs_keywords%3Dxenosaga%24pagemax%3D100%24getcnt%3D0%24pagecnt%3D1

Anyway, the figure is basically identical to the prototype in the pictures. I couldn't recommend a greater high-end articulated figure. It's the gem in my collection. I guess with Figma releasing their Kosmos 3 before Alter, not many people want to double dip.

Yeah, that's the picture. I dunno, it looks like the light is projecting from the inside. But I agree with the price factor, so most likely it's Photoshop. Would have ordered it if that was an actual LED.

The one thing that truly bugs me about the Alter fig is that the face looks too sweet. Even Figma's face sculpt could have done with just a little more coldness. The Alter fig looks too cute, like an anime cyber-nurse or something.

That said, if you disregard the source material and look at it in purely aesthetic terms, it's a VERY nice figure. Good proportions, plastic looks solid, clean paint aps, and there seems to be even more accessories than the Figma version [looks like two arm swords instead of one, and proper stands for the Gatling guns].

For now, I'm staying off PlayArts Kai figs for a while. The Figma ones seem to offer more value for money, although they seem to be concentrating a little too much on bishojo characters. But I guess that's what sells figs.

Would be awesome to see Figma make something classic from the 90's, aka the golden age of anime; something like GUNNM figs, Appleseed or GitS. Plenty of good characters to choose from.

Agree. Though I would like Appleseed to be based off the last movie, and GITS from Stand Alone Complex.

They are making a Metroid Prime figure, so most likely the gaming area is going to expand.

Would love though Claymore and MGS figmas!!! And why not, the Macross pilots.

Yeah, the design for the latest Appleseed movie and GitS SAC are very nice.

I'd kill for MGS Figmas! Relatively cheaper than the Playarts stuff, but so much better in the articulation and joints department, not to mention more accessories.

I'd love to see some Macross characters as Figmas, pilots or otherwise. Too bad Bandai's still got the MF license; imagine Alto and gang in EX-gear! I know Bandai's got a fig of Alto, but the figure by itself seems less than proportionate, and I'm possitive Figma can do a better job.

BTW, you excited about the BRS bike? I can't wait for them to finally announce it and come up with a release date!

Yeah, though luckily I got the 6inch statue figs from Medicom. Really don't understand why they didn't make more after the Raiden and Naked Snake set.

They sold out instantly. Logic would say make the rest of the MGS crew. Still for now, eventhough they're zero on articulation, they're awesome pieces.

Never liked that Alto figure. If it was Ozma or Sheryl, then maybe it would have tempted me.

I am excited for the bike. Hoping the steering will work on it. Freeing has released some amazing high quality extras at affordable prices.

Hopefully the release date will be announced at Wonderfeast in Feb. And obviously there they will also unveil the figmas for the year.

Really worried on budget. As if with the third Eva film and the expected merchandise for it, I'm going to have to be really picky with buying figures this year.

Yeah, Evangelion and MGS take priority in my collection... They're pretty muched tied with Macross. :p

Going back to the MGS Kai, I'm expecting a Rex from them. They made for the Mechas for Peace Walker, so obviously they'll do the same with the MGS line, which already consists of Snake, Fox, Meryl and Pyscho Mantis.

As far as Medicom, I entered the figure collecting hobby a little too late to pick up Cyborg Raiden and Naked Snake. But seeing as HT is getting their turn for the MGS license, I'm waiting with bated breath for MGS4 Cyborg Raiden and Vamp. IMO, the two have the most epic battles in the game [that sadly doesn't involve the player], and IMO, they sort of overshadowed Snake here in his own game.

BTW, wasn't there a Mr. 47 fig by either Medicom or Enterbay? Another of my holy grails.

As for the BRS bike, I remember seeing pics of it, and it doesn't look like it can steer much, if at all. There are two front wheels, making something of an ATV than a conventional bike. The handlebars, if there are any, might be articulated, as might the wheels, but I'm not sure they can or will rig the wheels to move when you turn the handlebars.

Either way, it's definitely earned a spot as a future centerpiece on my display shelf. Hell, I might even get a custom glass display for it. Such awesomeness must be protected from dust. :D

Wonderfest...I wonder what surprises they might hold. I'm worried about budget, too. As it is, I've already pre-ordered Bandai's VF-25S Ozma, and I'm hoping to pounce on the super parts if and when my local hobby store brings them in.

I'm an Evangelion fan myself, but since I missed out on Rei and Asuka last year thanks to Yamato and its feverish VF releases, I don't see a point in collecting the others. BTW, how are the joints in the Kaiyodo Revoltech EVA's? I'm a little hesitant to Revoltech stuff, after hearing complaints of loose joints.

As for PlayArts Kai's MGS line, the only things that might bring me back to collecting anything from them would be Metal Gear Rex, Ray, and GEKKO's. I've a soft spot for chicken walkers--needless to say, GERWALK is my favorite mode for a Valk!

I really don;t see why they had to cut off the legs halfway and put the stumps onto stands. It certainly can;t be to save plastic, as the base probably requies at least as much plastic to make as a pair of legs.

Either way, these are gorgeous. especially the redhead in the back right corner holding what appears to be a cyberpunkish, high-tech looking sword. Mind telling me her name and what manga/anime/comic/game she came from?

Posted

Drooool. I have two of those statues, full ones btw; the topless chick with the sword and the grey hair, and the sultry redhead in the front-center. Expensive stuff. I need to stay the hell out of this thread...

I have the secretary one Mirei-san. Its pretty cool with the custom features it has.

What features are those? I kept that girl in the box...
