dreamweaver13 Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 You're welcome! So...did YOU understand the "mouth-pulling" scene...? I didn't when I read it, and even my Japanese friends had to guess at what it meant. Fortunately, I think his guess was right. I tried to make it a little clearer in the English version...but not too clear. umm.... ahem... yeah, i understood it immediately. i don't know what that says about me. (jeez, dreamweaver, could you at least pretend that it took you a while to figure it out??) Imagine if that scene made it into the series. Mom! I don't get it, what does that mean? What are Minmay's friends talking about? Mom? Quote

What are Minmay's friends talking about? Mom? When it left VFTF1 clueless, I feared the worst...but since you got it, I think Pete needs to relinquish his title of "Mr. Lingerie" over to you. Mr. Lingerie is dead. Long live Mr. Lingerie! Quote
VFTF1 Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 It's only because I have zero experience with virgins and never dated a girl who wasn't older than me even.... The lolis I tried dating last week have already bored me, and a la Lord Genome, I have thrown them away.... Besides, the Mr. Lingerie title isn't about achievement or sexual conquest, but purely about lust and lingerie fetishes Pete Quote

VFTF1 Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 So...uh, have you finished the book yet? I will this weekend in a dingy hotel room in a coal mining town. This week I've just been really busy because a) I have to file my quarterly VAT tax returns by the end of this week, and after succeeding in getting my tax return for the last quarter, I'm determined to succeed in getting one for this quarter...but it's a lot of work...you not only have to fill out the form, but you also have to include copies of all the invoices you've paid, copies of proof of payments, telephone bills, sales - and everything has to be perfect. I barely succeeded in getting my tax return last quarter and I want to succeed again - only this time not have to get called into the tax office a zillion times to dot "i"s and cross "t"s. And since I do my own accounting for my business it's the hardest part - because I never was much good with accounting or preparing documents...so I'm stressing over it b) I wasted my time on two high school girls who turned out to only want money for stuff but had no redeeming qualities like a willingness to get laid or an interesting personality. c) Having lost my translation job (which allowed me to sit around at home typing on the computer), I've been forced back into teaching english. Happily I've managed to organize some classes, but I actually have to go to them now - as in move my sorry butt and go to work... that is really tiresome. d) I've been busy preparing for a Japanese pop-culture festival that's happening this weekend here in Poland, so that's also taken up some time... But I do plan, this weekend, while in my dingy, rundown little hotel room, to finish the book I hope my explanations are satisfactory and won't incur the wrath of Gubaba-sama Hmm... MW needs a "bow" emitocon... Pete Quote

I'm glad you liked it! I've skimmed through Misa's book but I haven't fully read it yet. It seems to be pretty exclusively about her life before the series starts. First half about her with Riber, second about her after Riber's death. There's also a GREAT bit when Misa and Riber visit a certain Chinese restaurant in Yokohama... Quote

Gubaba Posted October 23, 2009 Author Posted October 23, 2009 THANK YOU. close enough. I'm relieved, too...I was worried that I'd left it a little TOO obscure. Quite honestly, that and how to deal with the mysterious guy trailing Ashida in "Pink Lady" were the toughest parts to translate... Quote

Beltane70 Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 I finally got the chance to read your translation, Gubaba. You did an awesome job and it was quite interesting to see a side of Minmay's life that we didn't get to see in the series. Your hard work is greatly appreciated! Quote

You did an awesome job and it was quite interesting to see a side of Minmay's life that we didn't get to see in the series. Your hard work is greatly appreciated! My "hard work" is really just beginning...I've still got Misa Hayase: White Reminiscences, Macross TV Version (3 volumes), and DYRL to do before I've finished the first batch of novels. But thank you! I'm really glad everyone's enjoying it. Quote
josue Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 I just read it carefully... They were going to the Turkish massage parlors??? that name should be updated to Soaplands. Quote
Gubaba Posted November 2, 2009 Author Posted November 2, 2009 I just read it carefully... They were going to the Turkish massage parlors??? that name should be updated to Soaplands. Oh, there's tons in it that should be updated (do they still use the term "pink salon"? Or "porno"?), but I tried to resist that. Reading the book, I *think* it really gave me a glimpse of what Tokyo in 1982 must have been like...far more than what living aboard a spaceship in 2009 would be. Quote
josue Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 They do! LOL of course. Watching Macross is like walking through Tokyo. Quote
Renato Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Gubaba, thanks for undertaking and succeeding in this monumental task. I own the book but I've only read it once, maybe 10 years ago, and it's been in storage in London ever since. I may dig it out next time I fly ove (if I find it). Sorry I won't have time to read the translation at least until next month, but I look forward to it very much, and will post my comments as soon as I do. Thanks again. Quote

sriracha Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 thank you! out of curiosity, would this book (and the misa book as well) be considered canon? Quote
Gubaba Posted November 4, 2009 Author Posted November 4, 2009 thank you! out of curiosity, would this book (and the misa book as well) be considered canon? That's...a REAL hard question. Egan Loo lists both of the books in the Macross Compendium Timeline, and both of the books were written by the exact same people who wrote the TV series (i.e. They wrote Macros, so they should know it better than just about anyone). On the other hand, there are a couple of small contradictions between the book and the show, and some larger ones as well (the biggest one being that the dialogue at the Miss Macross Contest is totally different in the book than it is in the show). But other than that, it fits well enough, so I don't see why not. Quote
Vepariga Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Yeah i reckon they could slip into canon pretty easily without too much hassle, Man im pumped to read misa's story,is there any cool artworks like in 'my fair minmay'? I suppose after reading misa's story it would add more wieght to her surpressed emotions and of ribers death. Quote
