On a slightly related note, just got Universal Bunny, and OMG what an awesome little album it is, can't wait to see the movie.

about half a year~~~

If these aren't costumes from the movie, then I think Bandai is trying to recreate the Rei & Asuka figure craze like Evangelion has.

Posted

At least Sheryl and Ranka had a close friendship in Frontier. While Rei and Asuka were cold ice queens to one another during each of the Evangelion iterations.

Not really. The biggest being just how much time bathing the characters spend.

Unless of course, you listen to his little extra audio file at the end. The whole thing could be called a spoiler. ^_^ Bold of him...

Seen that pic before, and don't really think it belongs in this thread. Not to mention most of the personalities don't fit at all. (though Ritsuko and Grace look a lot alike it seems, and Rei's face goes well with Ranka on the full body shot. Sheryl as Misato is just NO).

As for Universal Bunny, I only really liked maybe half the songs on it. Sheryl's songs are really starting to lack variety to me. Though some are growing on me (even Pink Monsoon).

Sheryl and Ranka's friendship is a matter of debate in my book. Particularly when it came to Alto...

Just got back from the movie earlier today!

Man, that teaser... I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that VF-1's color scheme is just a tad bit familar...

Sadly, I'm heading back to the states this coming week... so it'll be forever and a half before I get to see the second movie.

All in all, out of all the movie retelllings that Kawamori has been involved with, I was really most impressed with this one. Sure, some of the characters were kind of side-lined, but its a movie... y'know? I'd really wish someone would get their act together and bring freaking Frontier's movie state-side at least. I'd love to have a nice Bluray of this with English Subs (And maybe even a dub!) (But I also know why that's unlikely.... it certainly doesn't help that this outshines Shadow Chronicles easily.)

MF movie's box office , BIG victory of 30 cinemas!!!!!!!!!

I figured the per theater average would be huge. Now will they expand the release or are they just treating this as a limited big screen event for a movie intended for dvd?

Only if BW is willing to release it as a movie without the "Macross" name on it.

Though "Frontier" would work as a lone title...

That'd be sweet, although it seems totally unlikely!

If they could at least consider having english subtitles on the japanese release, that would do it for me...But again unlikely.

It's gonna be months before I see this movie...aaahhhhhh!!

Or you know... since the TV version shows the logo with english Frontier... do a little role reversal for the US...

And call it M Frontier: The False Songstress.

Or, for a little Fire Bomber reference.... New Frontier: The False Songstress...

Heck, call it the Frontier Quarter and you're set! *laughs* Ahhhh... a real shame...

Agreed, picked it up yesterday and listened to it t 5 times all the way through so far. Graham

god, you figured with modern day technology, there would be a site already streaming.

You mean what with the IR lights aimed at the audience that white-out any visual recordings?

Really? They've started doing that?

That's pretty awesome! I actually almost want to bring a camera into a theatre just to try that... But I doubt the defense, "I just wanted to see it white out my camera!" would hold up in court.

*laughs*

Instead, I think this might be the first Japanese Bluray I purchase... You can get programs to time subtitles tto it, right?

I've been wanting to ask this.

Major changes to Macross Quarter?

Only difference I noticed were those batteries in front of its bridge replaced with energy weapons that shoots pretty particles.

And the launching of VF-25 with Tornado packs was pretty lack luster, it rode the elevator to the launch deck, retracted its landing gears and blasted off.

No, I mean like aerial combat.

In one of the pre-release interviews for the movie, I seem to recall it was said that because most of the combat in the TV series took place in space, there would be a greater emphasis on aerial combat in the movie. Perhaps they are saving it for part 2?

On the subject of part 2, was there a trailer for it at the end of the first movie?

Graham

There were a lot of Valk GERWALK mode combat in the MF environmental dome if that means anything.

As Save mentioned the twin cannons on top of Alto's pack can rotate 360, great for shooting down pursuiting varja while GERWALK skimming on water surface.

Nothing in the likes of M:Zero though.

Regarding the VF-1 making appearance in part 2 trailer, I thought it looked more like a Miriya mayor scheme than the fire valk scheme, but I was very tired at the time and maybe imagining things.

The part I found most endearing about the movie was the new sequence of scenes how Ranka went from natto peddler to her first serious gig as promoter for Family Mart (there were so much cross marketing in the movie).

The way Ranka broke the good news to Alto was very sweet and well done.

Unlike other 1st day showings I've attended in US, there was no clapping nor cheering at the end of the movie. Not sure if that was any sign of the reception of the movie or perhaps audience/fans were more restrained from public display of fandom in Japan. ^_^

From what I've seen in person and have read, the reaction, or lack thereof, is normal for audiences in Japan.

Whats the possibility of the Blu Ray having multi-language support?

I'd say it's about as hopeful as me getting married and I don't believe in marriage :p so there ya go man! good luck to yourself ;)

Erm... I think the more practical answer would be:

is the financial incentive to add non-Japanese languages more than the cost to add non-Japanese languages?

this is a good question for our members in japan. How many japanese anime blu-rays have english subs on them? i can't imagine it would be that many.

Wicked cool, though I wonder how long it'll be before someone comes up with a DIY countermeasure for that. Hell, I'd be surprised if there wasn't ALREADY at least one.

That's kind of disappointing. Whatever its other faults, Macross Zero was great mecha porn.

For an anime that has never been released in any english speaking country on a official fashion - I'd say about as much chance as seeing Kawamori create a Macross II sequel

But then again, is it really that expensive to add subtitles? Isn't it more like they can't be bothered to do it?

Here in Scandinavia almost all movies come with 4 sets or 5 sets of subtitles (even the cheapest bottom of the barrel movies, not only big selling blockbusters). Many region 4 dvd's come with subtitles in spanish, french, spanish plus english for hard of hearing.

Bottom line> It's not that expensive.

Europe is an entirely different market, my friend.

Nevertheless, I was meditating on this earlier, and I figure if there are any non-Japanese subtitles, then Korean, Taiwanese, and Chinese make a lot more sense then English.

It's still money. And why waste money on a translation that few in the population can read nor understand and will probably not be sold in other countries?

That's another way of saying a negative 100% Yes.

But isn't it possible to get Macross stuff quite easily in those countries?? Or do you have to use the internet creatively like anyone else?
