Einherjar Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 All this talk about Mechwarrior made me remember some other mecha franchises I haven't heard much from for years. Anyone know what's been happening with series like Heavy Gear and Starsiege? All I know for both of them is the CGI TV show and the Votoms-like skates in one and that one of the companies responsible for the other one went out of business and it shifted away from mecha with Tribes. Funkenstein Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 As a matter of fact, Heavy Gear is heavily influenced by VOTOMS. The mecha and character designs share a lot of the same characteristics. Quote

The mecha and character designs share a lot of the same characteristics. Yup. In fact, the very first Heavy Gear design came about as a joke: I had sketched-up what I called an updated Votoms that I called the "V2." Apparently, the joke backfired Quote
Syngyne Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Also, Heavy Gear isn't a U.S. franchise, it's Canadian. Quote

hyp36rmax Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 I enjoyed the Heavy Gear games on the PC, i'm still waiting on a new one. Quote

Roy Focker Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Is Heavy Gear an RPG too? I think Steven Jackson Games was working on a new edition Quote
Noyhauser Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Is Heavy Gear an RPG too? I think Steven Jackson Games was working on a new edition DP9 published both an RPG and a Miniature version at the beginning (1st edition rule book had both actually.) What was kinda a neat thing was that user content was incorporated into the broader storyline, as the Universe had a pretty in-depth meta story. This continued until about 2005 when RPG was gradually phased out, and the company started focusing on the miniature rules... until last year with SJG obtaining the rights. Quote
captain america Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Was that a Jager or a Hunter? Neither, it was merely a "Votoms-like" mecha that I had sketched to parody the Votoms style. That particular design was never used as far as I know. Quote
Knight26 Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 I loved the earth/starsiege games, enjoyed them far more then the battletech games. I wish they would more instead of those tribes games, which I could never get into. Quote
cobywan Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 I loved the second manufacturer's versions of the miniatures. They were almost to the level of the FASA Trek mini's that were super finely detailed. Quote
