It seems like all the engineering effort went into the new leader prime and this starscream. Though to be fair to jetfire, he had to transform into a robot and a jet and combine with prime.

So far so good, man I hope the F-22 looks good ala the MP SS and an F-15.

Wonder if the arms hide the gatling gun and the missles of if they just hide the peg holes. The former would be great.

Jetfire would have been better if he was a parts former for combined mode (split into parts to form the armour, like the movie). The combined robot would be a hell of a lot better if Prime's legs weren't (essentially) connected to his backpack.

It looks like the rotary cannon and missiles are hidden inside his arms. In some images you see his left arm panels are closed, but in others the missiles are exposed and the hinged panels are folded to the sides.

Yeah, that really miffed me about the design of the toy, one of the few times it really would have been more accurate to portray it as a parts former and have it look better and they tried to make it perfect transformation.

2010 ROTF Line - Lockdown and Brawn look badass. I'm definitely getting those two.

Lockdown's bot mode looks pretty good, but his alt mode still looks kind of cartoony. Ratchet's Deluxe bot mode looks similarly great, but his alt mode looks kibbley. Brawn and Scattershot do nothing for me. HA Barricade's pretty disappointing too. I was hoping for a little more improvement from the Deluxe, but aside from more detail he's looking pretty similar.

I'm a sucker for jets, though, so Skystalker and Mindwipe are looking kind of cool. The Bayformer designs are easier for me to integrate with Classics Decepticons than Classics Autobots anyway. Still, the only one I'm guaranteed to try to get is Bludgeon.

The types of weapons used are faction-themed. In the NEST-themed line refresh, the Autobots have guns of some sort, while the Decepticons have melee weapons. Kind of a reverse of Animated, where the Autobots used melee weapons but the Decepticons mostly had guns.

Is Skystalker based (roughly) on a Horten Ho-229?

Yes, I think the smaller jet fills in the gap on the wings of Mindwipe in fighter mode, kind of like becoming flaps.

Ok, well that sounds kind of cool.

I don't care what kind of story-related BS they invented for the weapons, though. My robots need laser guns. :p

Skystalker shoots lasers out of the drone camera thingy on his forehead (or face... damned if I can tell from the pics). Mindwipe shoots lasers out of a similar panel on his forehead. Problem solved.

SCORE! Grabbed a G1 Perceptor and the Insecticon 3 pack (actually, two sets of bugs; one for me and one for my kid) tonight. I feel like I'm 8yrs old again.

Man! I actually stopped at my local TRU for the first time is probably over a month to check on those, but they didn't have them.

I have the TFC versions of both. I am particularly fond of the Insecticon Box because of the three energon cubes it comes with - very nice! :) (borat voice) :)

I have the TFC versions too. If TFC was still around, I'd probably still be collecting G1 reissues. I loved the bookstyle packaging...I've even considered making custom ones for Encore/ehobby reissues, but what the hell would I put for the Japanese writing?!

Couldn't sleep last night, and ended up watching 80s cartoons intermitently with Asian porn.

Wait. Still groggy.

Ended up watching 80s cartoons on youtube :) Some episodes of Inhumanoids (not as cool as I remembered the monsters being - I really love the toys!), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (very very well done cartoon in terms of whitty dialogue).... And of course Transformers.

Good lord. I swear - it's not a nostalgia thing - but honest to gosh those were some excellent, excellent cartoons! I watched Countdown to Extinction part 1, Rebirth Part 1, and the first Episode of TMNT as well as a later one (with Baxter Stockman). Now - I always liked the original B&W Eastman/Laird comics better, but the cartoon was pretty top notch too.

As for Transformers, the characters were sooo likable. The voice acting was great, and the interaction was spot on. Also, there was some pleasant continuity going on in the cartoon which felt nice...

In any event, I really don't feel like it was nostalgia talking. I really feel like I was just lucky enough to be a kid when superior cartoons were on tv... and Transformers the original cartoon really had a great, great feel to it. It was hard NOT to be caught up in the excitement and adventure...

I really need to get G1 on DVD. I've got the Titan paperbacks with the UK comics, which I do so enjoy - but really I need to also finally secure the Marvel comics trade paperbacks and the DVDs as well.

I guess my problem with Transformers nowadays is that... nobody really remembers the original G1 or cares much for it. All discussion is Bayformers focused, or the latest TV series and the most popular toys are the modern ones...

Hm...

I have truly become an old, old man..

Your not alone Pete I just finished watching season 2 of the G1 Transformers. Not only that I just started looking at the old M.A.S.K cartoon series. Kids don't know what good cartoons are now a days. I'm not gonna knock the movie TF or GI Joe. It is what it is.

We're not getting old. We're getting better.

ROTF LEADER Starscream Packaging Image

The underside is bigger than the ROTF voyager but not as bad as the TF1. Robot mode is the best so far, wish the canopy was a more accurate shape but other than that, I like this version a great deal. Definitely the best movie Starscream so far

not certain how you can tell from those pictures the underside is larger, unless you've seen or handled one in person, if so do share the juicy details! I find the fact that his arm can fully convert into his launcher mode to be impressive.

Well it looks bigger in fighter mode, like there is a lump underneath the plane. I haven't seen it in person, just studied the packaging image. I do have the voyager versions from both movies though.

It's awesome but the missle is ridiculously huge

blegh, jet mode still looks like ass, made worse by those tattoos. Agreed on the squished canopy, it really detracts from the sculpt and I don't even get why they had to flatten it in the first place, doesn't seem to affect the transformation at all. Looks oddly bulgy as well. I'm laughing at all the comments of how accurate his jet mode is... hahaha. man, those transformers guys, so easy to please.

Oh well, at least bot mode is kick ass. I can't wait to see what rumble frenzy is gonna do to it.
